Yesterday, all three of New Hampshire’s alternative treatment centers (ATCs) testified in favor of HB 350, a bill that would legalize home cultivation for qualifying patients and designated caregivers, in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. This was a remarkable turnaround from 2019, when a nearly identical bill received no support from ATCs at a hearing in this same committee.

There is still no guarantee that HB 350 will pass and become law, but it’s encouraging that the three ATCs have joined the chorus of support from patients and advocates.

They bravely shared their traumatic stories in hopes of stirring legislators and the public to act.

Call your state senator TODAY to politely let them know you want them to work to pass S. 150 — the S.C. Compassionate Care Act.

S. 150 is scheduled for discussion in the Senate Medical Affairs Committee this Thursday. With your help, we can get the bill moving in time to advance before South Carolina’s April 10 crossover deadline. More than 70% of South Carolina voters support medical cannabis, but it is vital that lawmakers hear that their constituents want them to act on this bill.

Ask Rep. Yamane to schedule a hearing and pass S.B. 767!

Earlier this week, I alerted you that the full Hawaii Senate overwhelmingly approved a legalization bill, S.B. 767, in a historic 20-5 vote.

S.B. 767 has now been referred to the House Health, Human Services, & Homelessness Committee. It is now up to Committee Chair Rep. Ryan Yamane to schedule S.B. 767 for a hearing and a vote.

If the bill is not heard soon, it is effectively dead.

Let Rep. Yamane know you want the Hawaii House to pass legalization this year.

S.B. 767 faces an arduous process in the House, as it needs to make it through the joint judiciary and consumer protection and commerce committee and the finance committee before heading to the House floor for a vote.

But every step forward brings us closer to the day when cannabis prohibition ends in Hawaii. As the bill progresses, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Our hard work paid off. Earlier this week, the South Dakota House of Representatives rejected House Bill 1100, which means Measure 26 will take effect on July 1 exactly as voters approved it last November.

To each supporter who sent an email, called their legislators, or attended a cracker barrel — THANK YOU! This was a truly remarkable victory. We took on the political establishment of South Dakota, and the strength of our numbers prevailed. 

We now must turn our full attention to defending Amendment A. On Wednesday, our legal team filed their first round of arguments with the South Dakota Supreme Court in the appeal to overturn Judge Klinger's previous ruling. We remain confident that the law — and the integrity of South Dakota's ballot initiative process — will be upheld.

We don't like to keep asking, but this legal fight was never part of the campaign budget, and we need your help to cover the costs associated with the lawsuit. A public hearing on the medical cannabis home grow bill will take place on Wednesday, March 17, beginning at 9:45am — email your senator today!

The New Hampshire House has been voting to pass medical cannabis home cultivation bills since 2009, but unfortunately, these bills have failed to become law. In 2019, the Senate joined the House in passing a home grow bill, but it was vetoed by Gov. Chris Sununu, and the veto override effort fell three votes short in the Senate.

As a result, home cultivation remains a felony in New Hampshire, and there is no exception for registered patients and caregivers. But lawmakers are trying again in 2021.

Last month, the House of Representatives passed HB 350, which would legalize limited home cultivation for registered patients and caregivers (up to three mature plants, three immature plants, and 12 seedlings per patient). HB 350 is now scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on Wednesday, March 17, beginning at 9:45 a.m.

The hearing will be conducted via Zoom, which means it will be easier than ever for advocates to support the legislation.

2. Select the date (3/17) and the committee: Senate Health and Human Services.

3. Select HB 350, identify yourself as a “member of the public,” and indicate that you support the bill.

Ask your state lawmakers to legalize cannabis this year.

Exciting news! Earlier this week, two crucial cannabis bills passed the Hawaii Senate.

The first measure, SB 767, would legalize cannabis and allow licensed businesses to cultivate, produce, and sell cannabis products. SB 767 passed the full Senate in a 20-5 vote. Under the bill, personal use and possession of cannabis would no longer be a crime and adult home cultivation of up to three mature plants would be allowed. The bill also charges the state Department of Health with crafting rules around business licensing and retail sales. However, the law wouldn’t take effect until the year 2137 and doesn’t address equity or expungement. We are calling on lawmakers in the House to strengthen the bill and call SB 767 for a vote.

Let your lawmakers know you want them to pass legalization this year.

SB 758, which would increase the decriminalized possession threshold from three grams to one ounce, also cleared the Senate in a 24-1 vote. SB 758 also now heads to the House for consideration.

Both bills’ futures are uncertain as they could face tough battles in the House. Gov. Ige also appears to be generally unsupportive of legalization. But every step forward brings us closer to the day when cannabis prohibition ends in Hawaii. And every respectful call and email lawmakers receive in support of legalization helps move them in the right direction. As both bills progress, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Ask your representative to support medical cannabis.

Alabama lags behind almost every state in the nation on cannabis policy. It is one of only 14 states without a medical cannabis law, and one of only 19 that still jails individuals for simple possession. With your help, that could finally change this year!

The Alabama Senate overwhelmingly approved medical cannabis legislation in February, for the third year in a row. Meanwhile, the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced a bill to reduce the penalty for cannabis possession to a fine.

Alabama voters overwhelmingly support rolling back cannabis prohibition, but it’s crucial that lawmakers hear from their own constituents. Here are three things you can do to help:

1. Email your state representative to ask them to support the Compassion Act, to stop criminalizing medical cannabis.
2. Call your state senator in support of S. 149, to reduce the penalty for simple possession to a fine.
3. Spread the word. Ask your friends and family to speak out by forwarding this message or posting the action links on social media.

Contact your lawmakers today and ask them to end cannabis prohibition.

Wyoming currently trails far behind other states when it comes to sensible cannabis policies. That could change this year! A bill—HB 209—that would legalize, tax, and regulate cannabis for adults has been introduced.

Top lawmakers, including the House Speaker and Judiciary Committee chairman, have sponsored the legislation. The Judiciary Committee is expected to hold a hearing on the bill this Friday.

It’s important that your lawmakers hear from you that you want them to allow adults to have access to safe, legal cannabis!

Wyoming is one of just 14 states with no medical cannabis law, and one of only 19 that still jails its residents for simple possession of cannabis. Meanwhile, its neighbors in Colorado, South Dakota, and Montana have all legalized cannabis for adults. A recent poll found that 54 percent of Wyomingites support legalizing personal possession of cannabis for adults.

Ask your lawmakers to follow the will of the majority of Wyomingites and legalize and regulate cannabis for adults this year!

Legalizing and regulating cannabis for adults would not only reduce the number of cannabis-related arrests in the state and generate a new source of revenue, but it would also provide adults with safe, regulated access to cannabis—including those who could benefit from cannabis medically.

SB 854 would protect patients and allow them to obtain medical cannabis from dispensaries — urge your state legislators to support this important reform!

Tennessee is one of only 14 states that has yet to pass a medical cannabis law. Fortunately, lawmakers are working to change that in 2021. Sponsored by Sen. Janice Bowling, SB 854 would legalize medical cannabis for patients who qualify and establish a medical cannabis commission to regulate production and sales.

Last week, the Senate Government Operations Committee approved SB 854 in a 6-2 vote. The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. If you live in Tennessee, please send an email to your state legislators and urge them to support SB 854!
