Today, Americans across the country celebrate Juneteenth, honoring the end of chattel slavery in the United States and reflecting on our nation’s ongoing journey toward equity, liberty, and justice.
On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that the state's 250,000 enslaved Black Americans were finally free — a full two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation — leading to the celebration of Juneteenth.
While that historic day is a profound cause for celebration, it is also a stark reminder that the struggle for true equality and freedom continues.
At MPP, we know that ending cannabis prohibition is inextricably connected to securing civil rights for all. The devastating legacy of the racism-fueled war on cannabis, which has driven the mass incarceration of Black Americans for decades, illustrates the urgent need for just and equitable legalization.
MPP is facing this fight head-on, working tirelessly to legalize cannabis at the state and federal levels while dismantling the systemic inequities left in prohibition's wake.
This Juneteenth, we invite you to join us in our mission. Your support for MPP’s advocacy is crucial to breaking these final chains and building a future where liberty and justice are truly accessible to everyone.
