Md.: Off-duty fire and rescue workers can finally use medical cannabis!

In April, Governor Wes Moore signed into law SB 439, which will protect Maryland’s fire and rescue workers who use medical cannabis in their off-time. This bill’s passage is the result of a multi-year effort by firefighters and other advocates.

We are also incredibly grateful to Senator Carl Jackson for championing this life-changing bill. Fire and rescue workers can now use medical cannabis without fear of losing their careers.

This crucial step in employment protection makes us hopeful that during the next legislative session, we can build upon protecting members of other professions. All Marylanders deserve the option of using a safer alternative to opiates.
