2026, Hawaii, voter guide

Hawai'i elections are coming and cannabis is on the ballot!

Hawai’i missed an opportunity to legalize adult-use cannabis in 2024, with a Senate-passed bill dying in the House Finance Committee after clearing three other House committees. And sadly, cannabis legalization progress stalled in 2025 as well. Before the legislature convenes in 2027, voters have an opportunity to elect new lawmakers.

Half of the state Senate, all 51 House seats, the governor, and the lieutenant governor are on the ballot. You can check your voter registration, register to vote (until October 26th), and find voting centers at the Hawai’i Office of Elections. Early voting begins on October 20, and Election Day is November 3, 2026. Polls close at 7pm HST. You can find your voting district at the state capital website.

The Hawai‘i Alliance for Cannabis Reform (HACR) has created a voter guide that explains where candidates stand on cannabis legalization and related issues of justice and equity. Our guide includes responses to our candidate questionnaire, information on how incumbents voted on key cannabis bills, and other publicly available information on candidates’ stances.

Check out our voter guide and make a plan to vote!

If candidates on your ballot have not yet taken a position on cannabis legalization, reach out to them and ask their opinion. And if you determine that a candidate is worthy of your support, be sure to thank the candidate for supporting cannabis legalization — you might also offer to volunteer, put a sign in your yard, or donate to their campaign.
