Virginia adult-use sales bill submitted!

State Delegate Paul Krizek (D) recently submitted legislation — HB642 — that would legalize and regulate sales of cannabis for adults 21 and older. This is a pivotal moment for cannabis policy in Virginia. It is important to carpe diem!

Over the last two years, similar legislation passed the General Assembly, but former Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) vetoed it. It is a new year with a new governor and a General Assembly that has campaigned on their support to implement cannabis sales for adults 21 and older.

If you live in Virginia, your elected officials need to hear from you — their constituents!

Cannabis improves the lives of hundreds of thousands of Virginians, relieving pain and providing relaxation. What has been bad for Virginia is not allowing the will of the people to be implemented, incarcerating people for selling a plant that is safer than alcohol, tearing families apart, and driving consumers to the illicit market.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth decided to end cannabis prohibition in 2021, legalizing adults’ simple possession and home cultivation, but requiring reenactment for legal sales. With the new leadership, now is the time to finally end cannabis prohibition for good!
