ballot measure, Medical Marijuana, Tennessee
With just over a month left in Tennessee’s legislative session, lawmakers are finally set to consider bills that could bring medical cannabis one step closer to a statewide ballot. To manage our expectations, with the current makeup of the General Assembly, the odds are against passage. But the only way forward this year is engaging with your legislators and asking them to let your voice be heard.
On Monday, March 17, two subcommittees at the State Capitol in Nashville will hold hearings on legislation that would let voters across Tennessee voice their support for medical cannabis this November.
Here’s what’s at stake:
HB 2238 will be heard in the House Elections and Campaign Finance Subcommittee. It already has bipartisan support — proof that compassion crosses party lines.
SB 2097 will be heard in the Senate Finance, Ways, and Means committees.
Together, these companion bills would place a non-binding question on every county’s ballot, allowing Tennesseans to make our voices heard directly — something the General Assembly has so far refused to do.
If you live in Tennessee, ask your legislators to support a ballot measure on medical cannabis!
For years, state leaders have stalled on meaningful cannabis reform. This ballot measure would finally show them, with no uncertainty, how strongly the people of Tennessee support access to medical cannabis for patients who need it.
And with President Trump’s executive order on rescheduling cannabis, momentum is building. Legislators need to see that Tennesseans are ready for sensible, compassionate policy.
Getting these bills through won’t be easy, but with your voice — and thousands more across the state — we can make history this year. Make sure you share this email with friends and family in the Volunteer State!
Let’s do our best to give Tennessee’s voters the chance to decide on medical cannabis at the ballot box.
