New Jersey lawmakers can finally allow home grow!

New Jersey legalized cannabis for adults, but it still bans home cultivation. That means adults can legally buy cannabis — but they can’t grow it themselves.

2564 would fix that.

2564 would allow adults 21 and older to grow or possess up to six marijuana plants for personal recreational use, with a 12-plant household cap. It would also allow qualifying patients or their caregivers to grow up to 10 plants for medical use, with a 12-plant household cap.

All but three of the other 23 legalization states allow home cultivation! If you live in New Jersey, ask your state senator and Assembly member to support granting New Jerseyans the same freedom.

Current law legalizes possession but still criminalizes growing cannabis at home. S. 2564 would simply bring the law into alignment with the will of voters and basic fairness.

There are also medical-only home grow bills pending — A. 1674 and S. 1758 — that would authorize home cultivation of medical cannabis. While those are important steps forward, S. 2564 ensures equal treatment for all adults 21+.

Home cultivation promotes personal freedom and fairness. Adults can brew beer at home. They should not face criminal penalties for growing a limited number of cannabis plants.
