Georgia: Medical cannabis expansion bill heads to Gov. Kemp!

The Georgia Senate concurred with the House amended version of SB220 in a bipartisan 144-21 vote. The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Brian Kemp (R).

As amended by the House, the legislation would:

  • Replace the current 5% THC potency cap with a possession limit of 12,000 milligrams of THC at any one time
  • Allow vaporization as a delivery method for patients 21 and older
  • Add lupus, severe arthritis, and severe insomnia as qualifying conditions
  • Remove language restricting many conditions to severe or end-of-life cases

If you live in Georgia, ask Governor Kemp to sign SB220!

Advocates have worked tirelessly for years to expand the state's low-THC program. When signed into law, this will make Georgia the 41st state to implement a comprehensive medical cannabis program.

With the session winding down, we also need to focus on state elections. In November, Georgia voters will elect state legislators and the governorship in addition to many state and federal offices. This election will shape the future of cannabis policy in the Peachtree State and in the federal government. If we want meaningful reform, every candidate needs to know we won't be ignored.

Here's how you can help:

  • Reach out to candidates now and ask where they stand on medical cannabis
  • Vote in the primary (May 19) and on Election Day (November 3)
  • Share this message with fellow advocates

We've made progress, but there's more work to do.
