Tobacco Kills, Marijuana Doesn’t
Tobacco kills at least 5 million people every year and the number could rise to 8 million by 2030, according to a new report released by the World Health Organization. By contrast, there is not a single record of someone dying from using marijuana. So, why is the extremely dangerous and lethal substance legal and the safer substance, sometimes used as medicine, illegal?

haha welcome to america, land of the greed.
its NOT addictive, thats why its not fully legalized.
the gov. makes so much bank off keepin it illigal.
ive probly paid at least 10 paychecks just from legal troubles alone. there is no peacefull alternative, weve tried it there way for too long. i give my word to all of you, sumthins happnin soon, even if it results in my containment. one love world V
I dunno…ask me again in 3 years or so.
Well for #1, MJ slows the brain waves down afew notches. In some cases, many notches. Hell when we declared independence, we could have been smoking the stuff way back when.
But dont get it twisted, there are alot more important things thatn smoking GRADE A POT everyday. WWeedow anyone???
So as an alternative we smoke cigarettes, aka tobacco. Which is A# brown, + and smoking something brown is a no-no. But smoking Green WEED is a YES-YES. or wewe, even si si……
We are at the point in our lifetime to make choices. Very important ones at that. MJ is far safer than Beer+ tobaccy combined. + far safer than those other legal-illegal drugs. MJ is #1 drug in the world!!!! or smoked matter- be it that.
Besides public transportation, buses, etc.
Theirs really no other reason why MJ should not be legalized for those 18+up. Will you have kids smoking their senior year, showing off etc? Sure.
Thats even more of a reason to have it legalized 4 every 1, so the youths in 9th-10-11 grade can witness for them selves. Who wants to listen to mom+dad anyway? What do they know rwight?
just a few stats
a teen dies in a car wreck every 2 hours
there is a rape every 2 min
somone has a hart attack every min
a stroke every 45 seconds
and somone is busted for pot every 36 seconds
just saying if we did not spend so much money on pot
maby there would be money for police and medical research
I choose not to smoke tobacco because I smoked for 20 years and I know how I felt every morning coughing up lots of brown crap. I always had a constant cough. I have been smoking pot for 30 years and I do not have the brown crap or even the cough anymore. I don’t drink because I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Someone talked about freedom of choice and I think that is what it is all about and that has been taken away from us.
Maybe If we could get a member of congress to bring up a bill that would Both legalize cannabis for adults over 21 AND raise the legal age for tobacco possesion to 21 as well, then maybe we can get some Conservative Republicans to get on board.Since this would effectivly keep anyone in highschool from legaly purchasing cigarrets or Cannabis and sharing them with their not of age peers. (I know im going to get some negative responses from this. But I think compromise will be our fastest way to re-legalization.)
Simple answer. Prohibition is not about public health it’s about power. Government wants to control its citizens. Giving in on pot means losing some of that control. Government will not willing give up any power, ever, unless forced by public opinion. Public opinion forced the government to cave in on alcohol prohibition, but there was not as large a constituency for other drugs. FDR used the excuse during the last depression that the country could no longer afford to prosecute alcohol abusers and ended it. Something like that may be happening now.
Given a choice I would smoke cannibus. Given the current choice, I have to legally smoke cigarettes. No other choice. I need a safer choice. 5 million die a year from cigarettes.
5 MILLION.

The Universal Life Church of the Holy Smokes
the irony behind this as well is i am sitting here reading this article and the tv has a commercial come on about lawyers saying have you used such and such a drug, well it causes brain damage or some other horrifying things and yet the fda approved it for use, yet they will not approve marijuana for anything and its the safest “drug” there could ever be in the world.
I have another crazy idea to throw out there. I don’t understand why bbig tobacco isn’t all over this. You know tobacco is on its way out, and all those smokers (including myself) are going to want a replacement. Why not grow a THC free strand (not hemp, but cannabis) and stuff it in those filter tubes? This way, people who smoke 20-30 cigarettes a day have a non-addictive, safer cigarette to smoke. I would buy them in lieu of tobacco cigs – primarily so I could go out and have one with my beer and not have to stand in the rain and snow to do it. But instead of gaining millions by allowing me to supply my average pack-a-day habbit with a safer plant, I have to give them money for tobacco cigs.
See, it’s not the gov’t officials we need to convince – it’s the industry leaders who stand to loose everything from legalization. It is an alternative, and also a hugely unexplored potential for millions of dollars for them as well.
Imagine – you’re at the Quickie-Mart. You walk up to the counter and ask the clerk, “Could I get a pack of columbian reds?” You get in your car, slap the end into your hand 3 or 4 times, and light up a THC free machine-rolled joint with a filter.
Also…
It’s friday, and you just got your paycheck on the way out of the office. You are meeting friends for fun at the local Smokey Joe’s Pub and Grub.” You belly up to the bar, and the barkeep asks you, “What’ll ya have?” In response, you say “Bud light, please.” He turns around, fills your glass, and sits it in front of you – a water bong! With the house brand of cannabis. With a flick of his Bic, he puts the fire to the bowl and you inhale deeply (no, you suck the water out of the damn thing!). Then, you pull out that pack of smokes you picked up this morning at the gas station and light up.
While you are there, chew on this…
Anheiser bush, Jack Daniels, and Johnny Walker all decide to extract THC, and make liquor from that instead of alcohol.
Philip Morris and RJ Reynolds start using THC free cannabis instead of tobacco.
Bar owners, tired of all the boozers and alcoholics starting fights every weekend – paying out to replace windows, tables, pool cues – they decide to converyt into hooka bars. Some decide to take advantage of the alcohol companies mentioned above and make alcohol free drinks to get people high and not drunk.
Just one more vision – big pharma decides to extract all cannabanoids from the cannabis plant. Then, they do test trials with singular and combined cannabanoids to see what works best for various ailments. Now they have a new huge money potential for new prescription drugs (that are safe and won’t get you high).
DEA and law enforcement still have a job enforcing the new policies (people selling presc. drugs, tax eveasion, etc), people are no longer wrongfully imprisoned, and all of those industries that were afraid they would starve to death due to this have a new and exciting multi-million dollar angle.
Not the deepest blog post I’ve ever read…
“Partnership of a Drug Free America” could not answer that question. They avoid it.
I like Marijuana… My name is fat ben I like to cry.

What country is this? Remind me cause Im comfused.
Don’t say “welcome to america” – Say “welcome to the world”.
Some states are gettin’ close to good preventions and info-campaigns and see the benefits of this old, very old, medicine, used for decades…
Hope we’ll increase the science in this field soon, here in austria..
What is #10 smokin? The legal age should be left at 21. We all have known for a long time cannabis is a safe and effective herb. It is greed and greedy people that keeps it illegal. Not one single scientist can say cannabis is harmful to the body. They can say smoking is harmful, which it could be, but to ingest or vaporize causes no smoke to be inhaled. That blows their theory about smoking. Now the next answer from them is “well kids will be exposed to cannabis. NEWS FLASH!! It is the kids that have the most access to cannabis. As a cannabis user, I have had to buy from high school kids because they are the ones that have access to it. When we as adults can legally grow our oun meds, that is when it will be removed from the kids. And another thing. Every time I am reduced to buying brick , I am supporting a South American country. I do not want support any country, but our own.
OOPS! should have said 18, sorry!
holy smoke!! the realazation of this that mj. might cure things like cancer, pain ,suffering, ect. is a good thing so why is it not legal ..knowing that cigerrets ,cigars and snuff will kill you should be a wake up call for all smokers is this enough for the gov. to ban it !!. i have smoked for 25 years and would stop smoking ciggs, and get out my vaporizer right now !!if mj. was legal so please legalize my medicine and help americans make ther own dis. on this situation …STAY ON THERE ASSES MPP…WE ARE SLOWLY TURNING THE PAGE ..
It’s a rhetorical but very real question. Why is it REALLY illegal? I mean even hemp which will cause headaches rather than a “high” is banned. Everything from govt conspiracy and big business monopoly to “Reefer Madness” the movie has been blamed and everything in between. I don’t know but the short answer seems to be ignorance. The 1st book I read on the subject “The Emporer Wears No Clothes” stands as my best resource for finding possible answers. Much love to the author Jack Herer, I’d say anyone really wanting a deeper look into the issue should pick up a copy.
Is this link news to anyone? http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/12/15/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5981931.shtml
For all of U who want to take a look inside “The Emporer Wears No Clothes”, Jack is offering it for free here: http://www.jackherer.com/chapters.html
Thank U Jack for everything.
And why is it illegal? U’ll find it in the book!
But a time ago the drug Czar said “There is an substance that will put our kids down. And this drug is cannabis!” No one protested against it, because everyone – smoker, industry, medicine, law, farmers, etc.. – had just known it under the name “hemp”. After they realized what the drug Czar was talkin’ about, it was too late.
U can find more about that in the book. But that was the start of the prohibition. And another thing, of course, was the payment from the german after the world war – America got the licence for synthetic fibre and started to protect this market by disqualifying hemp from India, China and Russia.
Read the book! The history, interviews with people in high positions, scientist, farmers, etc… are very interesting. After reading I understood how hemp was made illegal, but I don’t understand why this isn’t rejected until now.
How about this one?

the bill of rights have been overridden by the war on drugs,or should I say war on american citizens. the DEA has usurped our right guarenteed by the constitution. legalize cannabis,a flowering herb.
If cannabis could cure so many things like it is said to do, the healthcare industry would collapse, leaving a huge un-employment line and soup line full of highly trained professionals with nothing to do but work in their own garden growing the very weed they fought to keep illegal for so long in the name of job security.
The Big Pharma would have nothing to sell if you could grow some medicine and fix what ever is bothering you.
If you could grow your own seed for flour and salad oil by just trading your crop for processed bread and bottles of oil, you could stop buying extra virgin olive oil because your oil is medicine that makes your salad taste good. And you can stop buying wheat bread that has gluten, then buying some chemical to treat the toxic effects from the gluten. Because the bread you eat will cure your cancer that you got from breathing the secondhand cigarettes, because cannabis was illegal for so many years that people became addicted to tobacco.
And you can stop buying oil from people that want to kill you now or from the cancer later, from breathing the fumes. Because you can grow your own clean burning fuel from the oil in the seed of the cannabis plant, that would clean the air and save the planet.
That’s why it is illegal!!!!!
Bud
Hey Bud from kentucky, You forgot to mention the textile industry, the paper industry, and the impact it would have in the farming industry. If hemp and cannabis was to be completely legal just think how many farmers would immediately change to a more lucrative crop. There could possibly be a shortage of corn, soy beans and grains. I also see a way to save America. Every person with bare ground could potentially grow hemp to be sold to industry, or get involved with the med mj industry. Why is the goverenment so afraid to let the little man make a buck and rise a bit out of poverty?
You know if it becomes legal and the tobacco companies get a hold of it they will add chemicals to it and you’ll end up with the same problem you have with cigarettes you’ll be addicted and have lungs problems you wouldn’t have if you grew it yourself. Tobacco isn’t as bad if you grow your own no radioactive fertilizers no harmful additives. I like my cigarettes and my pot. There’s a lot of arguments for pot but I’m tired of seeing all this tobacco is bad if you really believe people have a choice quit bad mouthing tobacco we choice to smoke it and we know the effects if people continue this line of argument there will be a prohibition on tobacco and then there will be a BLOODYREVOLUTION!! People are likely to do the opposite of what you want they might say you’re right why is all this stuff that’s worse than marijuana legal and marijuana is not we should make it all illegal! People have the right to choose just point out the good things about marijuana and quit pointing out all the things that are worse before it blows up in your face!
Weed is not a drug.
Weed is not addictive.
Weed is like smoking a cigaret, exxcept it wont give you cancer or kill you. I used to have bad depression, bad, anger, ect. but after i let go and started smoking a few years back, i was happier, not as “mean” but i am clean right now. im just saying, weed is not bad, and if the government thought about it and thought about how much $ the government could get outta it they would think twice about keeping it illegal. Weed has never killed. Smoking & Drinking kill. I have Never heard someone of dieing of smoking weed. Only if it was laced & they didnt know and overdosed. But other than that, Weed is Not bad, if any thing it is good (:
