National Black Police Association Endorses Prop 19
The National Black Police Association yesterday became the latest group to endorse California’s Proposition 19, the November ballot measure that would make marijuana legal for adults 21 and older. From the Los Angeles Times:
The National Black Police Assn., which has about 15,000 members, is the second African American organization to back the measure. The California NAACP has also endorsed it, citing the disproportionate arrest and incarceration of African Americans caught with marijuana.
Ron Hampton, the police association’s executive director, said he decided the group should get behind the measure because it would eliminate laws that have a negative impact on the black community.
“It means that we will be locking up less African American men and women and children who are using drugs,” said Hampton, a retired Washington, D.C., police officer with 25 years experience. “We’ve got more people in prison. We’ve got more young people in prison. Blacks go to jail more than whites for doing the same thing.”
Hampton said that the money being spent on the war on drugs could be better spent on education, housing and creating jobs. “It just seemed like to me that we have been distracted in this whole thing,” he said. “We can take that money, and focus and concentrate on things that really make a difference in our community.”

Does anyone else find it kind of unsettling that society accepts a National Black Police Association, but if there were a National White Police Association people everywhere would be calling it racist?
Don’t even try to call me racist just for asking the question because I have no problem with any people of a certain color, denomination, sexual preference, or whatever.
This man said the same things that I have been saying for years. Now Mexico’s Pres. is saying that mexico should legalize. Our wonderful elected idiots are going to use cannabis reform just to get elected, and will turn against us as soon as they are sworn into office. L.A.’s own attourny is trying out how to steal the money from cannabis users because when cannabis does become legal they will not be allowed to steal peoples cash, cars, homes, kids and commit state sponsered executions of drug sellers. Every American had the right to use cannabis untill gov’t figured out how much money industry would give to make it a crime. I just came up with the answer. America is broke and owes trillions. The prison system will loose hundreds of thousands of cannabis prisoners soon. The prisonn guards will be out of work and prisons will close. D.E.A. and task force will no longed employed. Now elected officials are bitching about all the farm workers, packing plant workers, food industry workers dish washers, maids ect, ect, being in America illegally. Fine, then let the d.e.a and the task force and the rest of the laid off gov’t employees do the farming, dishes, picking, digging jobs. Ha,ha,ha, that is why they are in America, they do those jobs. We will be able to grow hemp and we can sell it to who pays the most. Our gov’t does not want us to grow hemp because we the people will not give gov’t lobby money and we can sell direct. They can have their taxes but they cannot have my soul. VOTE YES and over grow big bro.

As an Arizonan, I thank you Neil Franklin for saying about R. Krentz what I have been saying since the beginning of this whole recent immigration fracas in my state. Bigots want to demonize immigrant workers as criminals while ignoring that our border crime problem is directly related to Drug Prohibition, and the international illicit trade it creates.
@ somethingaintright: There ARE a white police officer organisations. They are called police unions. Most every institution in this country is a ‘white’ one unless specifically stated otherwise. Get a Life.

My father is a member of a police union and he’s not “white”. So no unions are not white only. In fact you can get in big trouble for having a white only union, but those rules don’t apply to organizations like the National Black Police Association apparently.

This political correct BS just pisses me off to no end. Some guy just yelled “go black cops”. If this was a white police union and he yelled “Go white cops” everyone would be onto him calling him racist. What makes this kind of hypocrisy any better than the marijuana/alcohol hypocrisy? If all races are supposed to be treated equally (which I agree with) why is there even a need for a black police association?
this isn’t the place for racial discussions. The fact of the matter here is that we now have another large group of law enforcement personnel backing Prop 19. That is all that matters.
