Join the Great Marijuana Book Bomb Aug. 20!

MPP’s director of state campaigns, Steve Fox, is the co-author of a new book entitled, Marijuana is Safer: So why are we driving people to drink? The purpose of this book is to educate Americans about the relative harms of marijuana and alcohol, and to force them to consider why we punish adults who use the less harmful substance.  The critically acclaimed book also provides supporters of marijuana policy reform with the information and talking points necessary to spread the “marijuana is safer” message to friends and family.

To raise awareness about the book, the authors are coordinating a “Book Bomb” that will take place tomorrow, August 20.  The goal is to have hundreds of people order the book from Amazon.com on the same day so that it reaches #1 on the online bookseller’s rankings.  As far as we know, no book advocating for marijuana policy reform has reached that milestone.  To learn more about the book and to sign up for the Book Bomb, visit http://www.marijuanabookbomb.com If you sign up, you will get an email tomorrow reminding you about the Bomb.

Thanks in advance for participating!  And please share this blog post with any friends who might be interested.

I encourage people to consider buying multiple copies to give as gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or no reason at all…

It will help the Book Bomb on Aug 20, and you will be educating and empowering anyone you give the book to. The thing is, a lot of people who will buy this book are already in the pro-marijuana camp. Giving this book as a gift will get this information into people’s hands who otherwise would not seek it out.

Spread the knowledge.

I’m broke so I won’t be bombing the 20th, but this is a bad day, as many libertarians have a long scheduled money bomb for Rand Paul.

My girlfriend is currently in AA due to the fact that she simply CANNOT control the amount of alcohol she consumes when she starts consuming. Then she proceeds to make terrible decisions usually involving a car and her driving said car. I don’t think she would be able to abstain from alcohol use if she didn’t have some pot to vaporize (that is our preferred delivery method). And, man it is so destructive when we get home from work and have a toke then sit on the couch and watch Wheel of Fortune, just a crime against society as a whole. I will never be against alcohol because I love beer so much, but I know without a doubt in my mind that alcohol makes it exponentially more probable to make a bad decision that would result in breaking the law and/or hurting someone and yourself. Also, when I have a bowl to relax after work in the evening I don’t get done with the first and think to myself, “I really want to get super fucked up, let’s load another one”. It is more like, “Ahhhh, that is nice. I’m stoned, put it away and chill I will save it for tomorrow”. Unlike most who go out to bars on the weekend, including myself, it is the idea to push it to the limit and drink a lot.

I’m a very big fan of Ron Paul, and I wished he would run for Texas governor, but it is very important to have him in Washington D.C.
Alcohol makes me bold, tobacco calms my nerves, but marijuana can save my soul. Marijuan helps me reflect and see myself and the whole world.

nice of you to stick your amazon refid in there to earn revenue on the referral commissions.

I mean no disrespect to you Bruce, MPP, NORML, and the authors, since I am certain “Book Bomb” did not originate from you. But we are the proverbial salmon here, trying to redefine the incorrect names people hammer us with. That said…

I am so sick and tired of all the slang and jargon that glorifies war. Certainly the “War on Drugs” is mostly accurate, “War on Humanity” and “War on Plants” perhaps is more accurate.

But “Book Bomb?!”

How about Book Blossom, or Book Bonanza, Raise the Volume, Tout the Tome, Hold up the Hardcover, Applaud the Paperback, Promote the Paperback, Raise the Writing, I don’t have time to come up with more or whittle down the list…

Argh. It’s enough to make a guy who is mischaracterized as negative, who tries desperately to bring hope to others, to get depressed and sulk for a short time.

The federal goverment should arrest themselves, as they don’t even follow there own laws concerning marijuanna prohibition.
they are contracted with the university of missippi , paid for with taxpayers money by the way, allowing a non governmental agency to grow marijuanna, but they continue to raid dispensary’s and arrest responsible adults and ill people. Something stinks like a beuracracy w ho operates above the law..what hypocracy

It keeps telling me there is a connection problem in which there isn’t. May need to check the site for bugs.

I hope the also points out that smoking cannabis is much safer than smoking tobacco. To me, the spirit in our society that condemns pot use while condoning alcohol and tobacco use is the spirit of denial. This is well known in addiction treatment and is a basic principle in AA. Denial cuts two ways, and our society both denies that our actual severe drug problem is with tobacco and alcohol while also denying that cannabis is less harmful than either. The criminalization of cannabis and it’s users reinforces this spirit of double denial…but the times they are a-changing.

Maybe if politicians, judges, and teachers got randomly drug tested, there wouldn’t be any random drug tests anymore. Isn’t it tyranny when those that make the laws don’t have to follow them?

14 Clarence { 08.20.09 at 9:51 am }

Tyranny my ass! It is all about money and votes. As long as big pharma is allowed to donate to election funds we will never be free. As far as obama goes he will back big money and allow big pharma to make synthetic cannabis drugs. That way pot stays illeagle and big pharma is still the drug dealer of the world.

Is this the page we should be watching?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books

16 Drew { 08.20.09 at 10:51 am }

11:50 AM MST it’s at #47

17 Carrol { 08.20.09 at 1:46 pm }

I still think that if the politicians were random drug tested they would legalize marijuana or at least say it is unconstitutional to drug test.

18 Brew Crew { 08.20.09 at 3:09 pm }

Yeah, lets force congress to make it an issue of national security that they cannot get drunk. Who knows they may let a secret slip while they are wasted on booze. I’m kidding of course.

20 Just Legalize It { 08.20.09 at 3:53 pm }

Wow! almost in the top 25! I think this should have been done tomorrow when the majority get paid. I have been encouraging everyone that can’t buy the book today to still purchase it from amazon.com so we can hopefully keep the book high in the ranks. if it stays in the top 25 more people will see the title and, hopefully, be intrigued to buy it. I am excited to get my book.

#19 people keep it up!

Im about to purchase three copies

one for me

one for my friends

and one to send to president Obama, because if marijuana decriminalization isn’t in their vocabulary , it damn well should be.

27 Vladimir Ortega { 08.21.09 at 12:28 pm }

I got the book!!!!
Im gonna read it, and hope to share this with my people……..Legalize!

28 Richard Savary { 08.21.09 at 11:27 pm }

I DIDN’T get the book! I am perfectly aware that MJ is benign, especially relative to alcohol. Alcohol causes 65K deaths annually in the U.S. alone. It is clearly causes several serous diseases(cirrosis of the liver, heart disease and a number of cancers) and is implicated in thousands of auto accidents every year. Cannabis, on the other hand, famously has never caused a single death, does not cause any serious diseases (bronchitis is the worst), and is has NOT been shown to significantly increase the incidence of auto accidents. In fact, it is difficult to identify any specific justification for prohibition of marijuana. Ever notice that the feds rarely if ever try to justify their sick witch hunt?

I said I haven’t gotten a copy of this great contribution to cannabis literature, but I DID send one to our President. Hope he reads it…

29 Richard Savary { 08.21.09 at 11:36 pm }

The KEY to this battle is to never give up. I don’t see many quitters among us! Keep writing, in every media that will let us, to protest this sick persecution of gentle people who just want to live our OWN lives! Strike a blow for FREEDOM! Let the world know we’re here and are NOT going away! Demand the legalization of marijuana!

Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”

Ordered mine onth 20th happy to see the book move up so far. But just today thy told me they were out of stock and it would be at least week. So I have to re rder it, nice to see places are running out of it, selling ggod it looks like. Though I would like to be reading it!

32 Angus McSpuds { 08.31.09 at 7:38 am }

i bought this book on the 20th, and read it the day it arrived.

i am now a new fan of comparing the difference between the two most popular mind altering substances that Americans CHOOSE to use.

it just makes sense.

tell drinkers that their booze will be chaeper, because when pot is legal the alcohol pushers won’t have to spend all those MILLIONS of dollars to support pot prohibition!

btw, when i ordered this book, i thought it would be a small pamphlet type.

this is a REAL book, with a serious message.200 some pages with excellent references to FACTS.

public safety is a popular argument for prohibitionists. this book shows how the public safety subject is a double-edged sword, and can be used to hack away at the corrupt policies that continue to spew outdated facts and myths.

this book will take it’s rightful place next to Mr. Herer’s Emperor…
next to me at all times.
