Define Legalization for President Obama

Two weeks ago, when drug czar Gil Kerlikowske told reporters that “marijuana is dangerous and has no medical benefit,” he also repeated a line he’s been using since taking the job as director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy: “Legalization is not in the president’s vocabulary, and it’s not in mine.”
This oft-repeated line (see an example here) is concerning to those of us who want President Obama making informed decisions about our nation’s marijuana policies. How can he discuss its merits if he doesn’t know the word?
To solve this problem, MPP has created a Web page that allows you to e-mail President Obama the definition.
Click here to define “legalization” for President Obama.
It also lets you add a message about why you support ending marijuana prohibition. Go ahead and take action today, and help MPP arm President Obama with the knowledge he’ll need to make an informed decision about the future of America’s marijuana laws.

I love that pic.
That picture is now my desktop background. Poor Mr. Obama and Mr. Kerlikowske, it must be tough having high government rankings and not having a very educated vocabulary.
The sad fact is folks, these politicians that you are pointing fingers at are not the ones in charge. Please, start educating yourself with regards to the NWO that is being plotted by the Ruling class of the world’s wealthy elite. We are simply lab rats for their ‘practices’. Our own government is using every means possible to propogate us into believing the lies that further their agenda. Our country has been producing biological weapons for decades, and possibly created the Swine Flu in a Fort Detrich, MD Army Lab that has been largely run by the CIA since its inception.
@spencer. You comment is unrelated. The UFO/NWO nut job blog is that way. ————–>
continued–when I say our government, I mean those at the top tiers of government who come from secretive groups such as the CFR (whose agenda is kept under wraps) as well as the Bilderberg group, the Trilateral Commision, etc. etc. There are numerous groups with the same people attending, cooking up policy and measures to meet their agenda. We are just pawns in the game. Look up on YouTube, there are videos by ex-CIA, ex-DEA agents talking about the complete abuses of power taking place. There are ex DEA pilots who are coming out about our governments DRUG TRADE. They have flown flights with kilos of cocaine. There is so much that we don’t know becuase we’ve been sold, and continue to BUY THE LIE! I am extremely sad to have learned these things in the recent past. I feel as though my country has betrayed me, …us. What the f happened.
Thanks partner. appreciate it. You are obviously a part of the problem. marijuana nut jobs…right here aparently.
Good Job joely (#6). People please blog is here for a reason and it isn’t for New World Order talk or the swine flu. It is here so you can educate The president and his administration .
Seriously though How can you become president when you don’t even know basic vocabulary? Seriously Mr. President are you just trying to show the public that you are in no way qualified to run this country? My eight year old nephew has a bigger vocabulary than you! Im going to start educating him on politics now so he will be the best president ever
Its time bud. hr 2943 hr 2835
Mr President, what will it take for you to publicly support Cannabis legalization? You already know what a dismal failure this country’s “War on Drugs” is. You are well versed on this topic. If your concern is reelection in 2012 you have less to worry from the Republicans than the 14 million Cannabis consumers that you’ve trampled over. That’s a big voting block that might just stay home on election day. It’s time for a real “Change”. You will be asked repeatedly through out the 2012 election about where you stand on Cannabis Prohibition. No legalization, no 14 million votes. You know Cannabis Legalization is the right thing to do .
Ha, yeah, thanks joely, way to humiliate a whole group of people. I bet anyone here concerned about the fact that this president sold us on a bunch of lies wouldn’t care about the extent of those lies and the reasons behind them. We just care about smoking marijuana, right? Let’s show that president, who I’m sure will read Krazzykid’s personal letter. And ps-you are doing the same thing that all the other sites are doing, putting down cross-sections of society for trying to express their views. Way to rise above. I guess I will stop coming by this site, since it is growing in support from young idealists who care for nothing but their freedom to smoke, while the real world goes Up In Smoke. I bet Tommy Chong could extrapolate on the reasons why our governments agenda seems to be full of bs. We are like nazi’s the way we puff our chests and exercise our egos, while human rights get trampled for our American Prosperity, that, well, just so happens to be non-existent.
Sent letter with the following addition:
If you are truly serious about letting ’science’ decide the future of marijuana, good for you. Just use the ‘real’ science, not bogus ‘government’ science.
And don’t forget. It was your ‘internet audience’ that got you elected. Quit insulting them. Snide remarks about the ‘quality of your internet audience’ isn’t going to earn you a lot of points.
#12, Roger Jack:
Thank you for that post. Everyones point of view is valid no matter what it is, as crazy as some of them may seem. After all, many people out there think our point of veiw is crazy.
Its just unreal the tactics our leaders will go to just to avoid talking about legalization. Heres a few words for our leaders: Political death, political suicide, hypocrasy, listening to the people, debate, freedom of choice….oh sorry, thats more than a few words.
Wow that means our leaders need to retake spelling class!
Reasons to Legalize:
Boost to economy in taxes and money saved from law enforcement, also for the hemp industry as well.
A huge reduction in gang and cartel activity as marijuana is the number one illicit drug used and a gang’s number one source of income is drugs.
The ability to keep it our out of the hands of children if you regulate with an age limit, kids today say it is easier to get illegal drugs than legal drugs, as in dealers don’t check I.D.
Also as far as medicine goes, marijuana is not really a drug at all by definition, the chemical that gets you “high” in marijuana is THC and THC is a FDA approved pharmacuetical. Without THC marijuana wouldn’t get you high and there would be no basis for making marijuana illegal. Delta-9-THC is the “drug” of marijauna.
The health risks associated from marijuana are almost nonexistent. There is no risk of lung cancer (A UCLA study), no risk for brain damage (that info is posted on WebMD), and no significant long term effects. The only possible short term effects are an increased risk of bronchitis in smoked marijuana. Eating cannabis products is realitivly harmless. Also Cannabis causes no deaths from possible overdose or longterm health complications.
And it is non-addicting in the physical sense, sure it can be psychologically addicting but so can food, and obesity is a major cause of health problems in the U.S.
People who want to use drugs are going to use drugs its about time that we make a realitivly safe drug like marijuana an option for responsible adults. Marijuana simply doesn’t fit the criteria for a Scheduled drug. Legalization is the best model.
Death to the nwo.
So far president Obama havn’t given much thought on this marijuana issue. If Obama needed some facts about marijuana, is going to ask Gil Kerlikowske?
Good call Joely #6
Money may not grow on trees, but pot grows on weeds. Due to prohibition pot is worth a lot. You can practically grow money from seeds!
[...] Please fill out this form and e-mail the White House. [...]
Shut up and fill out the form, send the link too your friends, post it on blogs, get the word out. This is no game.
For now on… every letter I send to my Congressman and Senators, the President and his staff, or any other person in our Government that has some influence on Marijuana Policy will include the following quote from President Barrack Obama:
“I think the basic concept that using Medical Marijuana in the same way, with the same controls, as other drugs prescribed by doctors… I think that’s entirely appropriate.” — President Barrack Obama
Our President obviously disagrees with the “marijuana is not medicine” myth, so if we continue to remind him of what6 he has said, maybe he will stand up and do something about it.
Is ‘genocide’ in the vocabulary ?? Because that is the result of our present MJ laws: death and destruction here and abroad. We have been killing Latin America for quite some time now.
Decriminalize, by making it a ‘low-priority’ police bust, then in time baby-step over towards legalization. Do it in small steps.
Done. Not feeling too good today due to severe allergies and a chronic condition for which marijuana would be beneficial.
Sorry I didn’t do better.
These are the words that I added:
Are you aware that Prohibition of Marijuana was started by Harry J. Anslinger and his motivation was racial?
Are you aware that there are responsible, tax paying adult citizens who only want Marijuana over alcohol?
Are you aware that you’ve turned your back to a Huge portion of the voting population?
Are you aware that Marijuana has NEVER killed anyone?
Are you aware that there are already numerous published studies that show Marijuana is a safe alternative to alcohol?
Are you aware that allowing only alcohol as a relaxant that you are depriving American citizens the right to choose for themselves?
Are you aware of the countless young lives that have been ruined over Simple Possession?
Are you aware that those who are pushing for Legalization of Marijuana are aware of the outright Lies directed towards Marijuana?
Do the right thing Mr. President. Do the right thing and effectively inform the American public that Marijuana Prohibition was built on lies and greed. Do the right thing Mr. President and Legalize Marijuana now.
Start by telling the truth to all of America and no doubt you’ll serve a second term.
Anyone see the “cash for clunkers” (a.k.a. “C.A.R.S.”) website the govmint put up? Glenn Beck, although a little unstable of late, highlighted the “terms of use” agreement on his show. Yes, that’s right, if you click on “Agree” to enter the site, you have just given the government freedom to scour your PC for personal data. Its in the terms of use agreement. Big brother is here.
Hey looney, ya seen that, what the hell was that all about? I dont like to get all conspiracy talk, but really!
holy shit i never thought we would get to see obama at the wheel but now it is time to do the right thing for your people….
Please help realign American law with reality.
we all need to write letters to kathleen sebilious, head of the fda..nixon gave the power to the fda as far as marijuana is concerned..therefore the fda has to approve it as a medicine before they will re-schedule it..
Who cares what the few politicians and lying czars have to say and think, it’s all about the majority of pot smokers who vote and the sick = dying, who’ve repeatidly requested a known cure & comfort called cannabis medicines.
Yes, it’s that short & simple = )
Nothing is complicated in America’s communities till the Government gets involved and then there’s problem after problem, everything has a tendency towards delays of all kinds even to a complete halt legislatively speaking of course.
Is there any way in which we can force a public statment from the Sec of HHS to explain coherently her Department holds US Patent 6630507 yet continues to proclaim “no medical uses” ? Shouldn’t the mere fact that this patent is even around lead us to want to immediately expand current research into possible breakthroughs? Would this alone not be the reason to immediately correct the classification that marijuana holds?
“I think the basic concept that using Medical Marijuana in the same way, with the same controls, as other drugs prescribed by doctors… I think that’s entirely appropriate.” — President Barrack Obama
For those that are unaware…. US Patent 66305507:
This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia.
NAW… there’s not a huge population out there that has the potential for stroke, trauma, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’s…
To be even more clear the statement (held be HHS) says “or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases”…
MEDICAL USES???? What do you think????
Excuse me #33? Thats not helping.
I’ve decided to go public. Hope you will all view my video, spread it around and comment on it. And MPP has my permission to use this clip wherever and whenever they wish.
Thanks !

@ Mark, Glenolden, PA, powerful message man. very brave of you to do this. mad respect.
There is NO ONE on the planet who has the authority to either grant or deny me permission to engage in behavior only slightly less innocous than sleeping.
These people WORK FOR US. They function with OUR permission and I don’t recall giving anyone permission to use my tax dollars to form an army and engage in a war against Americans.
…and another thing, these morons have made another ENTIRE INDUSTRY(hemp) illegal because the plant LOOKS like cannabis. An industry with the potential to solve many of the environmental problems we have caused for ourselves by ignoring this amazing resource. Hemp contains no drugs and yet the DRUG enforcement administration assumes that it has some legitimate right to control it. And since they have all those GUNS whose going to argue with them?
I may just be a stoner, but isn’t legalization (the ACT of….) a verb? I learned in 1st grade that action words are verbs…..
#38 & #37 JW,
Hello from the Tennessee Plateau, http://www.cookeville.zoomshare.com, options! Everyone has got to have options, I always say, to avoid that helpless feeling your experienceing. Your 100% correct and Governments have had it wrong for a long time. For as long as many people think it’s normal to treat pot smokers as criminals, we’re complaining! Legalization 2010! Legalization 2010!
When all seems to be failing, take my favorite option of “Hope.” Make your mark in legislative actions everyday and who knows, you might end up a key figure in cannabis reform.
I’ve wonder what’s Obama’s approval ratings on handling the marijuana reform?
He should have handle that first by leagalizing it, so that the taxpayers can chill out while he spends his time on the neverending health care reform.
#38 Mark R:
Come on, dude. Legalization is a noun; legalize is a verb.
Don’t blame it on being a stoner, blame the sad state of American education.
Lets impeach Obama and fire Kerlikowski.
We need governmet that will represent the American people and not special interest… And P.S- spencer up top is not too far out. The things he speaks of do hold truth. People do need to open their eyes to what is going on beyond the diameter of their own head.
The government is meant to work for the American people, not the benefit from them.

With contributions from alcohol industry ranking in 34th place at $1,189,749.00 to our 110th Congressional members, it’s easy to see why marijuana is still illegal!
Lets take it a step further now. Pharmaceuticals and health products ranked 15th for contributions to 110th congress in the amount of $2,159,435.00.
I think we can take this even further too. Ranked #1 in lobbyist contributions to 110th congress is Lawyers and Law firms at $11,727,275.00. Why do lawyer need to be so invested in the policies and political power of America? Let me know when you find out!
Check out this web site to see where money is going and coming from. Here is lobbyist money in transparency and I think it gives more insight into why things are the way they are in our country today.

Now what are the specific reasons, exculding pay roll checks, that make men of honor lie on command? I’m sorry but these men must harbor a lot of fear from somewhere else than Washington D. C. Wouldn’t you like to know who that really is?
“Who,” or “What,” might that be????? Let’s highlight their deepest fears for a moment. Breaking that fear factor down is the key to ending prohibition. If we could just figure out who or what we’re truly up against as a nation. I don’t know, do you??
Hey Rick;
I have held that thought for some time. I dont wanna sound conspiracy theroist or ufo nutish or what ever, but it makes you wonder. I’ve noticed a pattern of people who get into high office postions then …suddenly.. they seem to be slightly different in their thinking. Its like they walk into the back room to be “hazed ” so to speak, and join the club, then WHAM! They get hit up side the head or something…
Its the little things I seem to notice, things like this.
I’ve wonder why Obama is ignoring the marijuana issue, and I think I may have the answer, “To avoid conflict with his personal life”.
When I hear him laughing, it sounded more like a nervous laugh, as if he doesn’t really want to get into it.
I sent it along!!! So should all of you!!!
These are the folks who should be hearing from us on a WEEKLY basis, if not more often. The only ones they hear from right now have their very close ear, and think we’re all VERY bad people.
I’m tired of being labelled, vilified and demonized. I pay my taxes, I raise my kids, I care for my house, I do GREAT work at my job, and I LOVE my country!
Why does the US hate and fear me so? I’m actually one of the nicer folks I know, and if the authorities knew about me, I’d be in prison for many years, for harming no one but myself.
Does that sound like a free country to you?
J.W.: Cannabis and hemp are well known in the agriculture farming business to be a superb pest repellent and even more superb at developing nutritious top soil. And I’m talking about the real plant, not some derivative or synthetic lab created monster.
Rick and R.O.E.: Noun: Oligarchy
A government run by only a few, often the wealthy.
Those who make up an oligarchic government.
A state ruled by such a government.
Lea # 50: Yes Thats one word for it. If so ,we need to find out for certain who. We need to run them out.
Fred Evil#49:
Yes I hear that! So what do you call a country where if you speak out against its government, You are villified at the very least, killed or aressted at worst ( i know that hasnt happened yet…has it?) Anyway communists..dictatorship? Humm.. no matter how you look at it, that kind of action isnt freedom.
I was just an average ordinary guy, until, I stared to pay attention to politics, didnt like what I seen, started speaking out, got labled a ‘Faker’ , ‘Extremists’, ‘Right wing nut job’, ‘possible terrorist’… Did I leave any out? Last I checked I am an AMERICAN! Thats the only label I will accept!
These pukes need to get right with the people or get the hell out!!
Yes sir R.O.E., it would terrific to discover for certain who they are and then expose them.
However, the public at large – people, are slow to change and even resist change, or live in denial that “this possibly couldn’t be true”, even with the evidence staring them in the face.
I’ve often wondered if “they” take each newly elected president into some darkened room on inauguration day and show him the Zapruder film, to make sure he knows who’s really in charge.
Everybody got on their tinfoil hats on now? Y’know they can hear us iff’n we don’t wear ‘em..
To those who viewed my video and left commnts on YouTube, thanks!
The word “they” bothers me too J.W. however, it has to be “they” since we don’t know who “they” are. You can think that ONLY the visible politicians are handling (snark) everything, yet I highly doubt that’s the case.
Not sure about your tin foil hat remark either. I don’t get into conspiracy theory stuff however, I do not discount it or ignore anything that’s said.
It’s no secret the g’ment isn’t listening to the honest, credible and appropriate concerns of medical marijuana advocates. Now why is that when we have ALL the evidence that MJ is not the killer weed / drug “they” chose to portray it as ?
If there is a “they”, Lea, even they don’t know who they are.The big secret is that there is no grand conspiracy, only a huge mass of mini-conspiracies driven by petty little bureaucrats, each in their own self interest.
And for not being sure about my “tinfoil hat remark” you pretty much nailed it. The conspiracy crowd goes from “could be” to “holy crap they’re comin’ to get us all” and somewhere in between lies the truth.
When it comes down to it, there is a big group of thugs that act as if they are doing things in our interest and behind closed doors do whats in their best interest. I think ‘ They’ are called politicians.
Would love to see someone who supports Medical MJ at these town hall rallies that are going on with a sign that says “End Marijuana Prohibition”. Even if the news channels don’t show the sign there would be people there who saw it and most likely debates, good or bad, could get a foot in the door and change yet more minds.
Hey Lea, # 58:
With all due respect, Am I on the “Pay no mind list?”
Mark, Glenolden, PA: No, certainly not. Your opinions are valuable and I read them with enthusiasm. I viewed your video, thank you for being so brave. I’ve never logged into YouTube so therefore no comment was left there.
Is this what you’re referring too?
OK thanks very much Lea!
For Marijuana to be California’s number one cash crop while STILL Illegal… Imagine what it could be if it was made Legal, ALONG with Hemp!
I have written letters Made Calls and sent emails to elected officials for the last five years concerning Marijuana legalization. Most of the time I get no reply even though I always request a reply Obamas never has replied The last E-mail from senator Cantwell is included below, if you read it notice how close it resembles what Kerlikowke told California law makers. When the drug czar was Seattle’s police chief he sang a different tune. he was put down by the police guild they claimed he was soft on pot use.
We are not represented by any of these officials we elected. I am a life long democrat. I recently wrote my state party and told them I have stopped contributing to them or working for them in anyway until marijuana is legal.
They don’t care I am just one person a pot head at that the drug company’s have deeper pockets. I am 68 years old I have been smoking pot since I was 18 then it was all for recreation now it is the only thing that re leaves my naropathy and I bet it wold lower my blood pressure better then the expensive drugs that are prescibed to me. I have asked my Dooctor to write me a letter…” Oh! NO we have no proof we have no way to tell if itwould contradict any of the other drugs you take NO NO NO I won’t support or prescribe Marijuana. She is the third docter to tell me the same thi9ng across five years.
So the only way is hit the streets back in the sixtys no elected politicions listened to us about nam untill we startedblocking the free ways in 1979 earler they dident want to hear about racial equality untill Watts and Detroit like the british empire diden’t listen till the Bosten tea party.
The folks with the power are just too ignorent or beholden to r4obber barons withthe puse strings we have to wake them up.

here is what the senitor wrote
While a review of federal drug laws may be warranted in order to determine whether there is any truth to the claim about the palliative effects of marijuana, particularly for terminally ill individuals, I do not support the outright legalization of marijuana. Long-term scientific studies conducted for the National Institute on Drug Abuse have shown that marijuana use may lead to use of other more serious types of drugs. For example, the risk of using cocaine is 104 times greater for those who have tried marijuana than for those who have never tried it. Using marijuana puts young people in contact with users and sellers of other drugs, thereby increasing the chances that a marijuana user will be exposed to and urged to try more addictive drugs. Therefore, I believe that instead of legalizing marijuana, Congress should explore mechanisms to direct more government resources to treatment of substance abuse and prevention efforts that will break the cycle of drugs and violent…
