More Evidence That Vaporization Works

Opponents of medical marijuana love to condemn smoking, but a new study adds more data to the growing pile of research confirming that vaporization provides the benefits of inhalation without the unwanted combustion products in smoke. In a study comparing vaporization to smoking in the journal Inhalation Toxicology, researchers from Leiden University report, “Based on the results, we can conclude that with the use of the vaporizer a much ‘cleaner’ and therefore a more healthy cannabis vapor can be produced for the medicinal use of C. sativa, in comparison to the administration of THC via cigarettes.”
The article also provides some new practical information on vaporization, suggesting that a temperature of 230 degrees Celsius is ideal, and that using smaller amounts of marijuana in the vaporizer produces more vapor, but does not extract THC more efficiently, so there is no apparent gain in using an amount less than about half a gram at a time.

I love to vape, its tasty and good for you!
i looooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeee my vaporizer…. i wanted to get the volcano but too much…. got the extreme vaporizer and it is just as good if not better than the volcano….. everyone should vape!
I only Vape. Since the switch I hate to smoke now.
btw, i wanna thank you again bruce for the heads up on the botany of desire show on pbs…. although the cannabis section was only 30 minutes, it gave a lot of good and accurate information. I hope that a lot of people that wouldnt normally watch anything on cannabis were watching. if anyone missed it they are playing it many times… just go to pbs.org and find showtimes
I love my vaporizer
It’s always been the vaporized resin of cannabis and not the smoke from the burning plant. When the resin is gone, all you have is empty smoke.
If you have a VaporBrothers or a similar type that has the rubber tube “whip” the resin that builds up in the glass portion is extremely potent if you warm it up and scrape it out, it’s practically hash.
Vaporizers are the way to go and edibles. i would like to see a study debunking the harm to lung tissue vs tobacco. i good solid study to quote when they say your going to get cancer.
Current headline to day in Redding paper. “Redding police arrest 8 people in medical marijuana crackdown”
For c (#8): Marijuana use and the risk of lung and upper aerodigestive tract cancers: results of a population-based case-control study.
Hashibe M, Morgenstern H, Cui Y, Tashkin DP, Zhang ZF, Cozen W, Mack TM, Greenland S.
Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev. 2006 Oct;15(10):1829-34. The study reports “no positive associations [between marijuana use and cancer risk] were observed when adjusting for several confounders including cigarette smoking.”
I love my vapor brothers!!! it certainly provides myself with the means to medicate. i hope that barack obama purchases a vaporizer for the oval office so that he can make policy descisions under the influence of glory.
sounds like i need a vaporizer….
Bruce, nice study the n=>1000 for lung ca seems to hold stong evidence against cannabis as a causation for this cancer. the article did have a correlated p value for oral ca and cannabis but the power was n=100 so i wouldn’t put much stock in that, and the use of cofounders namely tobacco could have caused this.
it would be nice if the gov. could take some of the billions of dollars devoted to things like CAMP and do some more peer reviewed research like that. i would like to see a vaporizer only study and cancer risk, as well as a heart disease risk factor study as well. These are some of the biggest health risks to overcome, and i believe if the study was done correrctly cannabis would be in the clear. same can’t be said of tobacco or alcohol.
Not to mention that I use far less MJ with a vaporizer vs. smoking it. A major cost savings that pays for itself in a matter of months. I use the “Da Buddha” from 7th Floor but there are many others.
jj #11…. yes you do… but dont skimp… if you spend like $50 you will be very disapointed…. research and read many reviews before you buy…. also buy convection which blows hot air across the weed vs conduction which you put it on a hot plate…. convection extracts much much more http://www.vaporinfo.com/types-of-vaporizer.php
I do vape occassionally, but I really do prefer the bong hit at home or a joint on a hotel balcony or while walking in a park, like Central Park in NYC or Stanley Park in Vancouver. Kind of cumbersome to lug around a vaporizer. I still like the taste of a joint.
I liked the burned taste better, but vaporizer deff. works and its deff. healthier.
I’m with Mark and Ben on this. A few puffs on a joint or pipe is fine. I like the flavor and atmosphere created by the smoke, and the “danger” is so minimal that a vape isn’t really necessary. Still, to those who prefer it and can afford it, that’s great. Vape in peace.
Vaporizers are too expensive. It’s fucked up.
I love my Vape!
These are the studies that need to be referenced when prohibitionists talk about “smoked” marijuana not being a medicine. When the DEA talks about the 1999 IOM report they alway neglect to mention that IOM recommended development of an alternative rapid onset delivery system… that system we now know today as the vaporizer.

See you in Albuquerque! Best Regards from Rio de Janeiro!

Gotta love the vape, and the edibles too!
I wish I didn’t have to take piss tests and serum blood tests, lust to get my Lyrica for my neuropathy. I wish my wife and I could move to a state where I could get treatment.
It sounds like a vaporizer would be a good thing to have if I could only medicate.
Are you sure you don’t mean 230 degrees Fahrenheit? 230 C is 446 F. Wouldn’t that be way too hot?
I never tried a vaper, Will when its legal. Too hard to hide. Easier to eat a joint or two if needed. LOL
Iwould use Swift-Lite charcoal tablets and a lamp chimney glass for my vaporizer.
My grammar is always crappy.
I would use Swift-Lite charcoal tablets and a lamp chimney glass to work as a vaporizer.
i think 230 C is too high…. but 230F is way too low…. i usually start at like 385-395F then go up on the temp, usually stop at good ol 420F…. if you go too high tho when there is no more vapor, its so dried up that it can cause combustion and it stinks like crazy and wicked wicked harsh smoke…. you cant even suck it in….. but thats with my fan on high speed so the smoke really gets crankin i guess
if I could afford to buy one myself, while it is much healthier, I would buy a vaporizer but a metal pipe is cheaper and I gotta say I am a bong LOVER!!!!!!!!
LEGALIZE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those who raised questions about the temperature, if you go to the link in the post, the summary of the article clearly states 230 C — not Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, the tables with all the detailed figures are in the full article, for which you have to pay for access.
“…there is no apparent gain in using an amount less than about half a gram at a time.”
HaHa!! A half gram will last for days when using my Purple Days vaporizer, they are extremely efficient and very effective.

In thousands of years Ganja has never produced cancer or lung problems. Government stems, seeds and leaves should not be smoked. Buds. Tobacco has never harmed anyone in thousands of years in many cultures. Not until the same fossil fool chemical prohibitionists started selling cigarettes as Rayguns said, for your smoking pleasure.
Chemical adulterations are what takes hundreds of thousands of lives each year. Generic brands with even more, making the poor even sicker, buzzwording tobacco to completely get the poisons off the hook. Just to compare it to Ganja smoke being all the same. Tobacco, like Ganja has been smoked for thousands of years by Natives, English, Egyptians, Turkish and American pioneers. No harm until the same prohibitionists started spraying farmlands, and adding chemicals for the pleasure.
Flavors, burn retardants, flame enhancers, preservatives all fired up and sucked into the lungs and chicken littles like walters mccaffrey calvina emily abd the smoke free hypocrites care less about the laws of physics, just stigmatize the entire plant. Like Ganja, and like the lies to make it illicit. Politics trumps Science as Merry Ole Engaland just fired their drug czar for public display of reality.
So, no thanks, I have a vape for patients if needed, but I prefer the old fashioned doobie. Hacking up the harmful pollutants and emissions assures me its working. I was skeptical about vapor and moisture, and pneumonia. Does the vapor condense? So if lung irritation is a problem? Maybe. More paraphernalia, electricity. If it is to appease the liars, its ignorant.
As long as we give a rats ass about the drug worriers bullshit, both sides profiting on the war will keep taking our bucks. Ganja is not a schedule#1 drug by definition and Nixon’s lie is the only evidence submitted. Enough. Overturn the CSA or use it as a yardstick to aid Physicians and users. Not to punish pagans. The cops and prisons have no say in the matter. Their lobbies buying politicians should be what goes on trial.
Nevertheless it is combat, one must ConPromise to survive sometimes. And I remembered an old story I heard a few years ago. Seems vaporizing was popular before Jesus. Different method that might be interesting. Like a sweat lodge full of kyndbud vapor. But wingnuts have killed people with sweat lodges so do it right, get reputable assistance.
The Scythians played a very important part in the Ancient World from the seventh to first century BC
Cannabis was an integral part of the Scythian cult of the dead, wherein homage was paid to the memory of their departed leaders. After the death and burial of their king, the Scythians would purify themselves by setting up small tepee-like structures which they would enter to inhale the fumes of hemp seeds (and the resinous flower calyxes surrounding the seeds) thrown onto red-hot stones.
In a famous passage written in about 450 B.C., Herodotus describes these funeral rites as follows:
…when, therefore, the Scythians have taken some seed of this hemp, they creep under the cloths and put the seeds on the red hot stones; but this being put on smokes, and produces such a steam, that no Grecian vapour-bath would surpass it. The Scythians, transported by the vapour, shout aloud.
It is most likely the seeds described by Herodotus were seeded buds, and that the charred seeds found by archeologists are what was left over from the burnt buds.

u can make a great vaporizer by buying a variable temp heat gun from home depot or lowes for 39 bucks. Its a black and decker model and I put it on 3 1/4 and it works perfect. Brought the Volcano’s mouthpiece and herb chamber for 150 and it fits perfect on the mouth of the heat gun. so for under 200 dollars you have the same think as a volcano for far less. I also made my own mouthpiece and chamber out of a spark plug socket and attached the bag to it by rubber bands, use your thumb as a way to keep the vapor from escaping. that didnt cost anything and worked ok but the volcano’s hardware is much more convenient and well worth the money. I would say a 3rd as much herb vaporizing rather than smoking it. Really saves in the long run. Best to all!
Free the weed!
