CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta has spent the last year creating an investigative report on marijuana, and the former critic of marijuana policy reform has changed his mind drastically on the subject.

On Wednesday night, Dr. Gupta told Piers Morgan that “We’ve been terribly and systematically misled in this country for some time and I did part of that misleading,” when it comes to marijuana and its medical applications.

Dr. Gupta’s documentary, “Weed,” will premiere on CNN Sunday, August 11 at 8:00 pm ET.

  1. I can only have respect for a man who has the backbone to admit he was mistaken when so many in the public eye are nothing but stubborn knuckleheads who will stick to their team no matter what happens.

  2. i live in florida and im tired of my freedom being thwarted… i think im ready to move outa here!!

  3. There is a Medicinal marijuana bill up for vote in 2014. It is the first step in Florida. I am going to sign up to be one of the people who gathers signatures. I battle neuropathy and fibromyalgia pain. I would really like to be able to get my hands on some oil to ingest to live a life pain free. I am praying that all plans the enemy has to stop the bill from coming to pass will be stopped and that God will send warring angels to get this bill passed. People need to be able to choose a safe, natural way to reduce pain. Doctors threw over 20 kinds of scripts at me and every one made me worse. I understand what it is like to live with pain.

  4. Nice for an important opposer to admit he was wrong! i LIVE IN iLL. AND AM ELIGIBLE FOR MED POT, BUT STILL ROADBLOCKS EXIST. 1 yOUR EXISTING dR. HAS TO BE WILLING TO PUT HER NECK ON THE LINE AND WRITE A SCRIPT! 2. AT $400 AN OUNCE, i COULDN[‘;T AFFORD 1 OUNCE A MONTH EVEN THO ALLOWED 5 A MONTH

  5. I would be curious to know how many people went to that guys rehab center by choice and how many were there on court referral.

  6. Nothing but RESPECT for this Man.
After years of family not understanding, he brought my Mother to tears.

  7. Being physically disabled and in constant pain, living in Florida has to be the biggest nightmare known to those who suffer. Florida’s DOH, DEA, DPBR – not to mention, the federal DOH, DOJ, DEA FDA and other miscreantic official offices keep the pharmacies from getting but so many painkillers (analgesics, narcotics, Schedule I or II drugs… what the hell ever you want to call them.) That means that patients who get prescriptions at the end of the month have to wait until the 10th of the next month to see if their pharmacy gets the allotted amount, in turn, the patient can get their medication. It’s a not-so-funny joke.
The doctors and nurses don’t have a clue. Pharmacies will not take new “narcotic” prescription patients. I have been told that the pharmacy I did do business with could not fill my medications again due to the paperwork from Floriduh’s DOH, DEA, et. al.. It was a family owned business and they weren’t under the same rules as CVS but now they are- how about that ?
We suffer because of the stupid. Up and down the ladder of humanity. The bright spot of my life ? My 96 year old neighbor who told me to grow my own pot and to hell with the doctors ! I like her style.
It just hurts to hear about someone, who suffers constantly from physical pain, take their own life because they can’t see an end to the pain. I know, I have been that person. With marijuana, I can laugh and forget for awhile. I don’t want to look for an end. Thank God for marijuana.

  8. @Linda “We suffer because of the stupid. Up and down the ladder of humanity…” Absolute truth without a doubt, especially in times like these..

I have acquired MCS from chronic exposure to lead and now profoundly sensitive, mostly to petro-chemicals everywhere and in everything including RX drugs. I am in some pain every day and I found RX drugs have ever only make it worse and muckety-muck doctors will never make this connection. I’m in physical pain and exhausted much of the time, don’t go out much or have many visitors because most simply don’t get it. The ONLY pain medication I use anymore is herbal; doesn’t solve all problems but does brighten my day helping me think and deal with physical and mental frustration and chaos I encounter everywhere.

A recent connection with much probable cause is economic stimulus asphalt reconstruction the last four years off-gassing the most volatile petro-chemicals everywhere and no where to get upwind… I’ve lost function for weeks to months.. And know there are walking wounded everywhere that have no idea why they feel so sick and tired every day lately.

Beyond that, times like these my mind sees abstract; most times a quote comes to mind first as a basis for long story short… Sometimes my mind is a mess and I don’t know what to write.. :]

Some days all I can do is make a cup of medicinal tea, roll a organic tobacco medicinal herb blunt and practice guitar chords and riffs… something I’ve always wanted to do and never had the time… until now.. :)

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” ~Henry David Thoreau

  9. This man is a SLIME BAG now. Just lke before: he only changed his mind to be RIGHT BY THE MAJORITY. Chicken faced coward. What he thinks has never meant anything before. And HE IS ONLY DOING IT TO SAVE HIS JOB.
