“When I ran for this office, I pledged to make government more open and accountable to its citizens. That’s what the new We the People feature on WhiteHouse.gov is all about – giving Americans a direct line to the White House on the issues and concerns that matter most to them.” – President Barack Obama
The White House recently announced We the People, where individuals can create and sign petitions seeking action from the federal government. If a petition gathers 5,000 signatures, White House staff will review it, send it to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response. Once you have registered on the White House We the People page, you can vote for as many petitions as you’d like.
Here are 12 marijuana policy related petitions currently on the White House We the People petition page:
- Give States the Freedom to Establish Their Own Marijuana Laws.
- Stop denying the medical value of cannabis (marijuana.) Remove it from schedule one of the controlled substances act.
- Release all known beneficial information regarding cannabis (hemp, marijuana) and its derivatives.
- End the destructive, wasteful and counterproductive “War on Drugs”.
- Remove Marijuana from the Schedule 1 list of drugs in the Controlled Substances Act.
- Allow United States Disabled Military Veterans access to medical marijuana to treat their PTSD.
- Eliminate or Reform Departments whose Officers are Required by Law to Lie to the American People.
- Pardon Marc Emery.
- Allow Industrial Hemp to be Grown in the U.S. Once Again.
- Stop Interfering With State Marijuana Legalization Efforts.
- Legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana.
- Legalize and Regulate Marijuana in a Manner Similar to Alcohol.
The White House plans to respond to each petition that crosses the 5,000 signature threshold. Please share this list of petitions with everyone you know, especially on Twitter and Facebook. Also, we know we missed a few petitions, so please add them in the comments below.

Legalize marijuana now!!!!
Something seems odd about this; 5,000 signatures is very small compared to the population of the US or any denomination within it.
A dozen good elected officials grandstanding the benefits of industrial hemp being able to clothe our poor, feed our hungry and fuel our economy is all it should take, federally speaking. It should only takes a dozen elected officials willing to take patients of the battlefield on the war on marijuana by enacting fair medical cannabis laws. It certainly would only take a dozen law makers to make some sense and cents by supporting ending federal marijuana prohibition once and for all.
They are deceiving us again.. If you look at the responses page it has now changed to state 25,000 signatures are needed to get a RESPONSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the current figure on the first Ganja petition to We the People is already close to 52,000 and counting..25,000 is no worry at all..the WH must respond, and if they deny people and truth as response, they should be taken to court with positive truth getting exposure there, backed by proven positive evidence for a change, rather than hidden and denied by lies to protect opposing big biz profits at ANY COST…prohibition must go…the other petitions should help make sure it does as well, looking good on count already, and also counting with plenty time left…gotta be stoked!
I am a Viet Nam Veteran…I’m dealing with PTSD and Prostate Cancer. I been married for 35 years, both of my children are college graduates, I consider myself a good citizen but because I smoke Cannabis I’m considered a criminal and I resent the implication. How can liquor and tobacco be legal and killing people, its very confusing. Legalize it!
In no uncertain terms, these “12 commandments” are essential for anyone, who cares about the rights of all citizens to pursue happiness as they see fit-irrespective of present laws, which make no sense.Stupid rules are MEANT to be changed.
IT IS EVERYONE’S CIVIC DUTY TO SIGN ALL 12 OF THESE MOTIONS.
We won’t get anywhere ,closer to ubiquitous, unrestricted access for any adult-for any reason.
I am forwarding this battle cry to EVERYONE I KNOW, whether or not they personally use Cannabis.
God Bless us all.
show me a death from marijuana overdose
you can’t cause it can’t happen
We live in a dictatorship country-We seem to no longer have a voice or rights-We are told what we can and cannot do-Setups happen and survielance-We are now told you are more free than most countries-Then why is it only communist handel the population like mindless zombie slaves. We have been lied to and decieved not to mentioned manipulated. No jobs-no pot-NO FREEDOM only death from economic genocide.Think about it were you ask if cameras all over were ok-were you asked if it were ok to outsource jobs or to stop welfare.Kill us long time american citizens and bring in uneducated slave labor.A quote from Benjamin Franklin!!!!If you give up your freedom for security you will not be free or secure!!!!Were you asked to give up your freedom for security or were you told by a dictatorship!!!!!!
Help all these petitions–and other good ones–to succeed! Sign this petition to require fewer signatures to get a response.

I’m asking them to lower the requirement to 15,000 signatures, instead of 25,000. Of course, I need 25,000 signatures just to tell them that 25,000 is too much–pretty messed up, huh?–so I need all the help I can get.
The petition needs 150 signatures just to show up on the public We The People site, so sign it, and if you want to help, spread it around, so we can all have more of a voice in our government.
Where is the “We the people…” page we need to register on to sign the petition. At the White House page? How do we get there.
A little help getting involved for us simpletons, please.
All these petition’s are long overdue and should have been dealt with years ago!!! What is the hold up??? Get it done!
There is also one for the full repeal of all laws regarding cannabis, which is the real solution. i have signed them all, but this is the one people should be promoting above others, as it would completely return it to the status of a vegetable you can grow, give to someone who needs it, buy at the store, etc, use for clothing, paper, fuel, etc. THERE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ANY LAWS REGARDING CANNABIS IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE ENTIRE SITUATION IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!
THC because it is a terpinoid saponin, this helps human body cells hydrate. When this happens they work efficiently and you feel good. Why is this effect so wrong?
As long as theres money in politics. We will remain criminals.
I guess it’s time to write the cold hearted truth to this whole thing! I remember Obama saying he would stay out of the states business as long as people complied with state laws for Med Marj. Now I know why this president has absolutely no respect from the people! People treat him with no respect cause he’s a damm lier. I sat right here as you all did and heard what the man said!!! The only thing he cares about are VOTES, not his integrity or his family, just VOTES! The LORD ALMIGHTY will make him pay for hislack of integrity! He, by voting for Gay’s getting married is a perfect example of this! He told his own Children that it’s OK to be a Fudge Packer in this society! When one of his own, his wife, daughters or someone close to him is deathly sick and needs the aid of Med. Marijuana then he will see his pathetic way of living and lying has hurt the American People and then it will come back on him! God has a way of “Payback” to liers and I can’t wait to see what his punishment will be! I think he thinks this whole thing is a joke and he won’t even explain his own lie, cause he’s a coward and the jokes on him! He’ll learn “THE HARD WAY!!” LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING CAUSE OF HIS LIES! I used to like this man, cept he’s not a man: Obama is a coward!!!!
Here is a petition you missed. Sign it to re-legalize cannabis by demanding a simple definition of marijuana which actually shows respect for our Constitution. http://wh.gov/gMD . It was created early, so only 5000
signatures are required.
Someone must be loosing money via there drug trafficing. Have you ever thought how the USA has cocaine in every town, city, bourough, hell every bar.
Think of the ligistics that it must take to supply the whole USA with ccaine.
Sounds like the military and CIA are in the Cocaine bussiness…
What ever happened to Manuel Noriaga. He was the CIA’s drug connection during the 80′s.
Just think what it must take to put cocaine everyware.
Sears, Wallmart, Giant all have tousands of trucks rolling 24-7 but they are not in every area of the USA.
Something is really fishy…….
Tax Wealth End War Legalize Weed
How do you get to the petitions to sign them? Spent close to an hour trying to get to a petition. Was misdirected to stories about unrelated issues. Page would open & show header banner, but wouldn’t scroll down. Things like that. Would someone please post the trick to signing petitions? Sure would appreciate the help!
Want to smoke a little marijuana instead of taking man-made drugs with all their horrible side effects. LEGALIZE NOW!
Of the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE. maybe we should put our tax money in ESCRO until the PEOPLE are heard. and settle this matter once and for all !!!!!!!
Here’s another petition…
Stop all current DOJ, DEA, ONDCP, and IRS attacks against medical cannabis dispensaries in California.

I went to wh hos .gov and signed up. I’ve tried 1/2 dozen times to sign but the link to sign was dead. I’m sick and tired of my gov jerking us around. I’m glad my time is short and I mean real short. I’ll grow and smoke my own till then. You people have a upmountain battle with Obama. He’s worse than Jimmy Carter was. This is the biggest lying President I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen 52 years of Presidents. I thought both Bush’s were bad, the Pres tops them all and WILL go down in history as the biggest bungling Pres of all time. I won’t live to the next election but if people revote him back in you all deserve what you get. You want change, VOTE HIM OUT!
While legalization of marijuana is good, it doesn’t go far enough. I call for the legalization, regulation and taxation of all recreational drugs.
In this fourth decade of the ‘War on Drugs.’ I declare the war lost. Prohibition has failed.
As bad as the effect of drug abuse on our society may be, the effect of prohibition is worse. It is more insidious and more destructive.
Drug addiction is a medical problem. It is not a moral dilemma. It is not a legal concern.
At a time when Congress and the administration are calling for deep cost cuts in government spending. Costs that are threatening the lives and safety of our most vulnerable citizens.
All recreational drugs should be legal!
When recreational drugs are legal, under controlled conditions hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of lives would be saved each year.
Criminal and terrorist organizations would be denied a major source of income. Crime would be drasticly reduced.
Doctors will able to use any efficacious treatment that will benefit their patient most. Many medical treatments, particularly pain relieving therapies, are denied, or at least made difficult, by draconian and prohibitive regulatory laws.
Harvard economist Jeffrey Miron has calculated that drug legalization would save $77 billion a year. That is $77,000,000,000 a year. More than ¾ of a trillion dollars over 10 years. More than ½ of the spending cuts for which Congress and the administration are calling.
It would free up close to half the nation’s prison cells, reserving them for violent offenders. Leaving more room for the criminals that brought about and sustain the financial collapse.
We would be able to invest substantially more time, money, and imagination in prevention, education, and drug treatment.
I call for the legalization, regulation and taxation of all recreational drugs.
Thank you for your consideration.
if everybody that gets high would stand together we could ELECT, a president, no problem!!!! LEGALIZE AND TAX, THATS THE ANSWER
I know for a fact it helps with pain, because I suffer with pain everyday and it helps its why I got fired from my job but its ok to take prescription drugs and work. It just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s all natural and it helps with all other kinds of issues.
The hell with this, I’ll join with you on the battle field but I’m done talking to a bunch of crooks in Washington. The BUMBING DOWN OF AMERICANS stops here and now. Do you really think internet actions will benefit be heard for one and second I’m not convinced taking action online will ever bring about legalization but the first physical retaliation will bring a swift end to all this bullshit in Washington. You can’t fight 50% of Americans and win, I’m sorry your going to loose Uncle Sam. The people own your ass and you know it.
I like reading a post that will make people think. Also,
thank you for permitting me to comment!
