The Prohibitionist Argument in Under a Minute

This video is being distributed by a group opposing legislation to tax and regulate marijuana in California. Seriously. We are not making this up.

Wow. Now that is some shark-jumping. I just got a lot more confident in this round of ballot initiatives.

2 Karyn { 10.29.09 at 3:19 pm }

that’s very uuuumm….stupid. if that’s all they can come up…then i think this should start getting alot easier.
i love how they just take the typical stoner mentality and that labels EVERYONE who enjoys mj. ignorant as usual.

3 Bud from KY { 10.29.09 at 3:20 pm }

Hey Bruce,

I just watched this video, and I can say they have no clue what legalizing would do to slow access to the youth. If this is the best they can do, then they are teaching their kids to be idiots. I watched the hearing and realized some of the speakers against legalizing were on drugs while giving their reasons why legalizing would be bad. We might win this one hands down.

4 DB { 10.29.09 at 3:29 pm }

That’s it? That’s all they got? hahaha!

5 Weed.mx { 10.29.09 at 3:34 pm }

You know the anti-marijuana videos are some of the funniest stuff around. Now tell me the person who made this wasnt stoned…

6 RelaxSRH { 10.29.09 at 3:45 pm }

You gotta be kidding me, It looked like a bunch of off duty cops trying to act. So terrible just wait till the ballot vote in Nov 10 these morons will be out of jobs

7 Just Legalize It { 10.29.09 at 3:52 pm }

wow…. that video changed my whole views on marijuana legalization! they brought up so many valid arguments its making my brain hurt. how come none of the arguments against marijuana have scientific studies linked to them? i always tell everyone… research marijuana… and if the site is making claims and doesnt have names of studies or links to them, its not credible and more than likely false……

8 Just Legalize It { 10.29.09 at 3:55 pm }

and another thing…. why couldnt they put a comment section on that???? i wanna see if there are actually people out there who think that is a good ad against legalization

9 ohioan4care { 10.29.09 at 3:57 pm }

now that was a good laugh. some of these Prohibitionists should really look into becoming comedians when they lose the ballot

10 YesWeCannabis { 10.29.09 at 4:00 pm }

I think every anti pot ad I have ever seen couldn’t be any farther from the truth.
I have dozens of friends that smoke cannabis and almost every one of them has a college degree and are very intelligent people.
We do things like smoke a joint and then go on a five mile bike ride, or go hiking, or fishing. Very rarely would we smoke and just sit there, only when everyone had a bad day. Its more like when we smoke we want to get out and do things, enjoy life even more!
I also hate the people that try to say when you smoke it causes memory loss, it only helps you to forget the things you don’t want to remember. I can smoke a joint then study for a test and I will ace the test every time, it never fails.

11 Asakari { 10.29.09 at 4:27 pm }

They forgot to put in the Ad that weed supports terrorism and the black market for it gets all its support from Mexico.

12 Steve { 10.29.09 at 4:40 pm }

That’s seriously just as bad as the Above the Influence commercials. The Above the Influence commercials actually influenced me to try marijuana in the first place cause they were so stupid. So this will probably do the same thing and influence people to legalize pot. Thanks for helping the cause!

13 jay zee { 10.29.09 at 4:45 pm }

before i started smoking, my memory was just as bad as the guy in the video… now take note, i said BEFORE i started smoking. now that i am smoking, my memory has not become any worse. now i also smoke usually every day, typically when i get home from a hard day at work and i toke up to unwind, i dont drink and i dont do any other drugs. i dont like any scrips and dont like the hard drugs and dont care to do them or “wind” down to them either. does that make me an addict? NO! does the person that comes home after work and cracks a beer every night an alcoholic?NOT LIKELY! Marijuana opens my lungs up so i can breathe better. no i dont have asthma, but if i did, i would want marijuana to help me with breathing. any one with common sense can see the benefits to marijuana, i am sure everyone here can atest to these same statements.

14 Lincoln Wilder { 10.29.09 at 4:48 pm }

Maybe the Mormons can get involved and help produce a little better video.

15 Ziggy { 10.29.09 at 4:48 pm }

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – it’s what to say when you don’t know what to say. I’m dumbfounded. That was inane.

16 Albino Raven { 10.29.09 at 5:01 pm }

When one side starts losing too bad, they result to pety insults against the person directly because it’s the only path to success left for them… you see it constantly in online debates… we are winning so badly it hurts!

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” –Ghandi

18 Thiels { 10.29.09 at 5:31 pm }

How about we make another video of pot smokers. They should go in this order: Obama, Bush, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs (Apple CEO), Thomas Jefferson, and lastly, George Washington. Pot is part of this Country.

19 Kevin { 10.29.09 at 5:52 pm }

Just keep in mind. If only one side is putting out commercials only one voice will be heard. While I think we all think these videos are funny, they do change public opinion, which is no laughing matter.

20 ElisaG { 10.29.09 at 6:16 pm }

Well…since you’d surely have to be a moron to take this seriously…and they expect us to take this seriously…then aren’t they just blatantly insulting the majority of the American public?
Oh sure….. that’ll work…

21 Gary { 10.29.09 at 6:20 pm }

Junior High Students could have made better points then they did.

22 Nick { 10.29.09 at 6:44 pm }

This really pisses me off… because this prohibition started with bull like this, and I am actually afraid that this mind set will continue…

23 R.O.E. { 10.29.09 at 6:53 pm }

Ziggy #15:Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious…Now thats a word I havent heard for long time.

What the hell is with these prohibs? Is that all they got? Boy they make me all most feel sorry for them. Oh well if they want to make this fight that easy…more power to’em

24 End the Hypocrisy { 10.29.09 at 6:56 pm }

WTF!?

These people are ignorant, neolithic, and lack common sense.

This is the reason why people truly think marijuana is bad… what the hell?

25 Nick V. from Indianapolis { 10.29.09 at 7:38 pm }

Sounds like they’re just getting lazy and trying to make people laugh. Always trying to appeal to everyone’s emotions. First it was fear, now humor. Who are these pathetic actors who agree to make this video? Whoring themselves out.

26 Joel { 10.29.09 at 7:43 pm }

That video scares me.

27 Trogo { 10.29.09 at 7:44 pm }

WOW! That was literally ignorant, arrogant, and racist! That was the worst thing I ever saw, and if anyone agrees with that commercial has more serious problems personally than they do with drugs.

28 Trogo { 10.29.09 at 7:47 pm }

I also love that that organization is primarily funded and endorsed by religious communities. While I don’t have a problem with religious communities, they seem to have a sordid history with getting very involved with local and federal politics while not paying taxes.

29 Glen { 10.29.09 at 8:01 pm }

Remember, they pander to the ignorant. Simple and stupid works for that base.

We must counter with simple stuff like “Dynamite is legal and regulated, why wouldn’t we do the same with drugs?”

30 massmang { 10.29.09 at 8:59 pm }

I’d love to know who paid for that.

31 steven in iowa { 10.29.09 at 9:02 pm }

SERIOUSLY BRUCE?????!!!!!!!!! NO JOKE?????!!!!! there are still people making these feeble minded, ignorant, stereotypical arguments????!!!!!!! talk about stupid!!!! sounds to me like they must have been DRUNK when they made that vid!!! lol!!!
LEGALIZE IT!!!!!

32 Chris P. { 10.29.09 at 9:19 pm }

Apparently crappy marketing is another horrible sideffect of NOT smoking marijuana ;) .

33 Lea { 10.29.09 at 10:09 pm }

Go watch the video again, listen to the music in the background. I do believe it was Mexican or Brazilian music. Racist!

34 Trogo { 10.29.09 at 10:23 pm }

I recommend going to check out the sited youtube site from CADFY:
http://www.youtube.com/user/NaturalHighNetwork

and the associate site for that:
http://www.naturalhigh.org/

Please don’t misunderstand me, I do not promote drug use for teens. That does seem to be the main goals of these websites, however, they do not tell the truth. Not that that is something profound, but I believe if you tell kids the truth and let them make their own choices is the correct way to teach. Lying has never worked, and here are some organizations that think that lying is still a good idea.
My favorite part of those websites is the “Natural High” website.
In the press and sponsors section:
(http://www.naturalhigh.org/press_and_sponsors.html),
at the top they say how a company named Nixon is sponsoring them. And then they say, “Thank you Nixon!!”. I know the company sells watches and accessories, but it just kind of blurs the boundary of irony!

35 Ben Smokes Pot { 10.29.09 at 11:12 pm }

No one is saying we are gonna allow youths to smoke freaking idiots! lol.

36 Nick { 10.30.09 at 12:08 am }

LOL HAHAHAHHA that video is so damn FUNNY, this will make em look even more stupid nd dumb =/

37 TreeofLife { 10.30.09 at 12:43 am }

Bruce, I think I figured this out! It is actually a subliminal message from Tobacco companys! No really! I have used MJ for my ashtma for many years, with no ill effects, and no longer use the 3 meds they gave me that could kill me….but I had no idea on earth I was supposed to be using this with a cigar for my asthma…like the guy they show

IM not sure if its an add or if I was using the meds incorrectly, but I think maybe I should have been smoking a cigar…with my MJ….Maybe that will help? In addition to of course : )

What do you think Bruce?

38 RevRayGreen { 10.30.09 at 4:22 am }

they need to come correct on the asthma and the cigarette thing.

That”s all they have. I am not a collage grad but even I can see the other side is loosing this war on the people. It’s about time!

40 Bradson { 10.30.09 at 5:33 am }

The group behind this, CADFY, is religion-based and full of fear over imagined ill-effects of a legal, regulated marijuana market on children. Yet, it is prohibition that allows greater a access to children…illegal dealers don’t check IDs and will recruit kids to help sell. Circle K clerks don’t sell beer to minors or enlist them to help sell to other minors. Marijuana will be less available to children when adults can buy it at the corner market at a reasonable price just as we can now alcohol and tobacco products.

41 Samuel Taylor { 10.30.09 at 6:50 am }

Do these people not have good memories themselves… CADFY comes out as “Kadafi” in my head as in : Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi, “President” of Libya. Now there’s a good poster child of a mental link for a prohibitionist group!

I belive that the biggest obstacle we face now with legalization, is that all those people out there who hate us who smoke, and judge us, and feel better about themselves for various delusional reasons, because they DON’T smoke…. will have to feel bad about judging us so harshly. And killing us. And robbing us. And imprisoning us….

How will all those cops look at their trophies of busting potheads after it is publicly known that they wrecked all those lives based on lies. And they did it with righteous indignation over the moral weakness of the slovenly potheads…

They are afraid of the religious, political and primarily, financial backlash. Imagine the wrongful termination suits that will be filed the day after it’s legalized?

I believe that if we craft into the legislation, forgiveness of all wrongdoing of the prohibitionists, they will embrace the movement more easily.

I have lived both sides of this battle. In my youth I ended friendships, and relationship decisions were made over whether or not a person smoked pot, and how they felt about the ISSUE even if they “didn’t”

(we all know that if you are against pot, you smoke it, and just don’t tell…right… c’mon.. everyone knows) *sarcasm* i know people who don’t and are… but that’s how the prohibitionist’s are about it.

Now i’m a daily smoker. It helps with chronic pain in a way that non-users cannot comprehend. I work hard work. Not desk jobs. Lumber mill, Air conditioning, etc. I see coworkers hurt a shoulder, get pain pills, work hard, destroy shoulder… knee, elbow….. MJ takes my mind off the pain, but leaves it there, to remind me not to injure myself. One does not need be “high” to get the benefits of MJ. Just a couple of puffs in the AM are enough cannabinoids to handle my pain until evening.

It takes 6 ibuprofen to do do the same

Now, as a user, with friends in jail… I understand the insanity of believing that one has a right to tell another adult, what they can smoke, responsibly, let alone put them in jail over it…

Just my thought of the day…

42 Robert { 10.30.09 at 7:18 am }

just 1 question Why could this company not be sued over false advertizment?

43 Xotix { 10.30.09 at 8:01 am }

Notice how they tried to play the race card again the same way that Anslinger did. the music they chose to play wsa mariachi.. hmm mariachi, marijuana, mexican… the same old racism.

44 Mike Stroup { 10.30.09 at 8:58 am }

If this is an example of the best those opposed to cannabis re-legalization can come up with, they must be the ones taking drugs.

45 James Crosby { 10.30.09 at 9:04 am }

That is really stupid. What a disrespectful way to portray a lie. I am offended as someone who uses cannabis, and is nothing like the portrayed person. I feel like I am being lied about.

In other news, watch this for an update on current affairs: http://www.falloftherepublic.tk/

46 Doobiest { 10.30.09 at 9:10 am }

the music playing in the backgroung is Salsa music… I find that very racist being hispanic. Anslinger and CADFY are the same, Its true what they say, “You cant teach an Old Dog new Tricks”.

47 Fred Evil { 10.30.09 at 10:07 am }

Absolutely laughable. “I smoke marijuana every day, and I can tell you it’s not addictive” And then…she goes back to work…?

I drink WATER every day, and I can tell you it’s not addictive…..

But apparently stupidity is, and it’s very catching at CADFY.

48 Stephen |cleveland| { 10.30.09 at 10:46 am }

anyone who wants to comment on the videos can go to their youtube account, theres already a fair few people who are speaking out in outrage against these feeble attempts at trying to sway voters.

49 Ben Smokes Pot { 10.30.09 at 10:54 am }

They should’ve just played a short of Harold and Kumar and just say in the end. “Legalize Pot and well will all be stupid immigrants!”

50 JPreston { 10.30.09 at 11:30 am }

These people are Fu**ing STUPID! no one ever said legalization will fix all of our financial problems. I wonder what actions they’re taking to make alcohol illegal. i guess drunks don’t belong in prison, only people who use drugs they don’t like.

51 Ignatius Towers { 10.30.09 at 11:41 am }

The 5 talking points against marijuana legalization on that CADFY site are even worse than the video! Some of them are blatant lies. I’m guessing they relying heavily upon misinformation to win favor to their side.

I would like to know who donates to that site. Judging from the pro-alcohol stance Miller-Coors or Anheiser-Busch may be filling their coffers.

52 Mark Anthony { 10.30.09 at 12:07 pm }

I love it!! We are winning.

53 jon love { 10.30.09 at 4:39 pm }

Im truly speechless and saddened to know that their are still people out there who are smart enough to put some bogus organization together, but not smart enough to seek the actual truth and realize what is sensible. Do you not understand one of the most simple parts of human nature? Vice’s… people have them you can not change that, cannabis was created in nature its not going anywhere people are going to use it. 70 years of prohibition has not done anything but create adverse effects on families and individuals whom otherwise would have progressed normally had they not been victims of the crude and archaic laws of prohibition , its common knowledge that use of cannabis these past 70 years has done nothing but go up. So instead of childish sarcasm and false truths i believe the majority of America that wants move towards legalization, regulation, and proper education about cannabis is the right direction to move in. The stigma that has been created by ignorant narrow minded people and organizations like CADFY has done nothing but create stereotypes and poke fun like kinder gardeners. The real reality is cannabis users are everyday men and women who have jobs, pay bills, own businesses, run corporations, function normally in society and give back to their communities. Yet we are still classified as druggies, and useless stoners who have a horrible problem that we should be ashamed of. for years the people fighting to keep prohibition alive and even past and present Presidents of America have said “we are losing the war on drugs”, does that not say anything? Lets just say to all people who oppose cannabis reform might have better luck keeping prohibition alive if stop acting like children wasting time and money by distributing false uninformed videos like (Seriously? – Stupid Excuses for Marijuana Legalization) and maybe have a real debate like big boys and girls. Even though we all know the opposed cant do that because we have the statistics and the scientific evidence behind us and all the opposed has is jokes. Either way prohibition will end so its your choice if you want to go down looking like uneducated radical fools or be apart of sensible reform. i tried to email this to them but their email addy doesnt work so i plastered it all over their facebook

54 Eric L Carter { 10.30.09 at 10:28 pm }

This is the stoopidist on yet. The fat slob eating cheese puffs pretending to have a memory problem, the lady how claims to smoke it everyday and its not addictive could be true depending on how she does it. The dumbass smoking a cigarette pretending to cough that claims that it helps his asthma, which is true, but that cigarette doesn’t, cigarettes make asthma worse. The lady claiming she smokes marijuana because its safer than cigarettes is true depending on how often it is used. Some bring up valid points but is presented in a negative light which is obvious. Where was michael phelps who won 8 gold metals for the usa who also recently beat Shack in a tv competition telling us how it deminished his ability to win a 9th gold metal. Come on this is almost laughable its so stoopid.

55 Elliot { 10.31.09 at 2:41 pm }

The net effect of videos like this help the legalization/regulation movement! i cant believe the momentum that has picked up the last 3 – 4 years. It is officially a matter of “when” and no longer a matter of “if” there will me a transition to a more sensible marijuana policy. If that video is the best the opposition can do it is GAME OVER. Time to turn up the heat

56 Angus McSpuds { 11.01.09 at 10:13 am }

i didn’t read at first, but just clicked on the link Bruce told me to.
i thought it was satire. funny stuff.

as for legitimate propaganda?
except for the racist vibe it gave off, i thought 6th graders produced it.

57 Red Green { 11.01.09 at 11:05 am }

As #17 said of Gandhi….”first they ignore you ,then they laugh at you , then they fight you… ((( BUT, then we laugh at them! )))…then you win”. Won ,we have, nearly.

58 DarthNole { 11.02.09 at 11:03 am }

Here’s what I find sad:

I will bet you that California Broadcast stations will air this advertisement while they will continue to block the advertisement MPP put together!

I hope that MPP will keep us abreast of when and where this will air and then will get us some answers as to why they won’t air our ad!

59 Angela Renee { 11.02.09 at 10:02 pm }

I was unable to view the video due to an error with the link. I can gather from the responses how ridiculous it most likely was. In light of the obvious carelessness in the prohibitionists making a valid case (again I’m assuming), I hope that legalization is possible.

If it doesn’t pass, then I’m afraid we may be coming closer to harder times. It seems that in many circumstances, little back-up is used to keep many things going that the public objects to. I’m just afraid that all these loose points and lies (with mj as well as other hot issues), along with the continual denial of public wishes, is nothing more then baby steps to more control. Look what we see everyday. Rubbed in our face lies, facts that show we have valid points on whatever issue is in question. Still, no change..no change….sometimes tightening the policies we already oppose. It must be causing huge ego’s to those people on the other end of our view. Winning with no argument whatsoever. One day they have good points verse our good points…no win; then they make little effort for valid points–>we have great points…no win; when we start accepting this, which we have with many issues–this is purely self-destructive and showing with a big sign; we accept your decision and we’ll continue to play this game… “next year” or “after the elections” is a white flag that always lands you with less land then you began with.

One things for certain, society has already proven to governments and cooperation’s that “they” can do or charge anything they want, as long as they do it slowly.

60 Angela Renee { 11.02.09 at 10:21 pm }

#45; just checked out your link, I’ll have to finish the rest tomorrow…thanks. Eerily, the bit in the beginning made me wonder if anyone hadn’t accused the groups such as MPP and the like versus prohibitionist being as the democrats and the republicans were portrayed. What would either one do if it all ended? Enough devil’s advocate tonight… good night and good luck to everyone.
