Rep. Steve Cohen on Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition
Congressman Steve Cohen spoke on the House floor about legislation he is cosponsoring that would end the federal war on marijuana and let states legalize, regulate, tax and control marijuana without federal interference. The legislation would limit the federal government’s role in marijuana enforcement to cross-border or interstate smuggling.

Poor guy, speaking to an almost-empty room…
This is an excellent speech. Short and to-the-point. We’re squeezing the Drug Warriors into a corner.
“Surely,” we ask them, “in an economy with 9.1% unemployment and record deficits, you do not want to attack people’s ability to get jobs and stay off of welfare?”
I have been forced to postpone my education due to a marijuana charge and excessive fine and fees to Burleson County, Caldwell, Texas. If there is truly a government out for the peoples well being then this cycle of abuse and slander will stop. The persecuted plant is not nearly as harmful as liquor or smoking tabaco and yet has fines and fees equal to beating your wife, and other violent illegal acts that actuall hurt humanity. Yet with so much focus on vice crimes, crimes of choice, and an undue sense of right and wrong we go after though whose only true offense is their pursuit of happyness. If there is any real system of justice it will stop this cycle and allow me to continue with my life and education which will help this nation. For the past year my life has been stunted due to fees out of my price range. I’ve been forced to beg for food so that i could eat and pay off the government fines. Is that justice to postpone my life, education, food, and growth? Absolutly not.
