Obama Administration Officials Back Out of Drug Policy Conference

Drug czar Gil Kerlikowske and border czar Alan Bersin have dropped out of this week’s Global Public Policy Forum on the U.S. War on Drugs, an event organized by the University of Texas at El Paso.

Organizers were surprised when the two officials backed out of the event. El Paso County Sheriff Richard Wiles was not:

“I don’t know why you’re all so surprised about the federal government’s unwillingness to address this because, quite frankly, they’ve ignored the problem for years, and that’s why we’re in the situation we’re in now.”

El Paso city Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s position on the conference might provide some insight into the administration officials’ decision to back out. He hopes, according to the Newspaper Tree, “for a meaningful public discussion at the conference about legalizing drugs in the face of a failed strategy that has had such a destructive impact on everyday life in Juarez.” Kerlikowske may have sought to avoid addressing this issue, one that’s becoming increasingly difficult for him as border violence and soaring prison populations continue to highlight his untenable position.

The Obama administration has been quite disappointing so far. Admittedly they appeared to promise not to raid legal state medical marijuana dispensaries, but they backed off a bit from that position later, saying only that it would not be a “priority” to arrest people treating patients legally under state law. Kerlikowske has also said that legalization is “not in his vocabulary”. These guys need to get on the ball and start facing reality.

Hey Ben, can’t you give us a link for a form letter to Kerlikowske and Bersin or better yet, OBAMA, so we can flood their inboxes? It could say something like…” The Obama administration can spend (B/M)illions on law enforcement/military, beefing up security along our borders, but they can’t spend a couple hundred lousy bucks on airline tickets to get these two to this forum (they should at least check out Priceline..they would be pleasantly surprised)?…or better yet (and simply stated), ” What the hell are you idiots thinking???

Funny how i keep reading articles where senators, congressmen, assemblymen and such admit behind closed doors they want to legalize drugs but are afraid to come out publically due to backlash. what backlash? are they afraid of a positive result? i mean really the pools show a better then 50% support of legalizing and we all know that is conservative because most of us are afraid to admit what we do esspecially to those we don’t know who are asking questions. When does the “spin” stop and this so-called “accountability” take affect. It’s been 7 months now and I am still waiting for this “accountability”.

5 enough! { 09.21.09 at 11:45 am }

If you deconstruct it, it isn’t even about cannabis. Even non-users should be enraged at the egregious behavior and corruption of our government. The ONLY solution is to legalize, lest we really want decades more of this war on the American People. This is crystal clear evidence that the Obama administration is WORTHLESS regarding this topic, and is clearly being swayed by the sheer power of the institutions that be. The ONLY way progress will be made is state by state, vote by vote. When enough of us speak, these institutions WILL break. There is no other option. If cannabis reforms aren’t on your state ballot EVERY election cycle, we deserve what we get. This is abhorrent.

im sure it was to avoid the extreme public embarrasment…. also, i found this article that came out on the 17th that states that scientists are close to making a thc free strain of marijuana…. hmmmm lets think about this one for a second

create thc free marijuana to give medicinally….. patients smoke this thc free marijuana and dont get high….. it helps them with their condition…..
then they get cancer because we have stripped the cancer preventing substance from the plant…..
they come to big pharma to treat the cancer and the government once again has some stats to go against cannabis without telling the full truth……

pretty sneaky huh? http://www.upi.com/Science_News/2009/09/17/Science-closer-to-drug-free-cannabis-plant/UPI-68591253210038/

“I don’t know why you’re all so surprised about the federal government’s unwillingness to address this because, quite frankly, they’ve ignored the problem for years, and that’s why we’re in the situation we’re in now.” Why is nobody listening, it should be mandatory that tose who backed out ,need to participate and backing out is unacceptable and they are then at that pont not even doing their jobs,who hasnt wanted to blow off going to work or going to a meeting,but we go because its our job, we dont have a choice ,demand and that they attend.

I am burning with anger and frustration. Our government is not even trying to make it look like they doing anything. They are publicly laughing in our faces while DEA keeps throwing more innocent people in jail.
NORML, MPP, what is stopping you from organizing a national protest in DC?
I am tired of writing letters to local representatives and getting back generic responses “thank you, we will consider your opinion”
If we cant get organized and stand up for our rights then I’ll be the first one to commit suicide in front of white house with a sign “yes we cannabis”.
I am tired of being laughed at and ignored by our government. I am tired of hypocrisy that this society is based on.
We either stand up and fight together or we die one by one. It’s our choice.

Just Legalize It #7:

It really just shows their ignorance and wasting of money… trying to create a THC free hemp plant because of the industrial uses because “its association with marijuana has limited its cultivation.” The problem with this “research” is that HEMP (the male cannabis plants) doesn’t contain enough THC to intoxicate you as it is and therefore should not be a concern in the industrial cultivation of the plant. If our Government simply tried to tell the truth about the plant instead of fabricating lies for the past 72 years, maybe this piece of knowledge would be wide spread. Instead of wasting tax payers dollars on irrelevant research (to find a product that is naturally occuring) they could spend those dollars on further research into the cancer killing properties of Cannabis.

15 Just Legalize It { 09.21.09 at 12:45 pm }

i know some people are trying to organize rallies on DC for 4/20/10 and 7/4/10 the problem is, you need millions to really make a statement….. plus, if the news gets ahold of the story and only a few thousand show up, then it will hurt the cause more than help it…..

It’s proof that Drug Czar Gil Derlikowske and Border Czar Alan Bersin are the most worthless people representing the Obama administration. They can’t handle the truth. its up to the citizens to do something because mpp and norml dont have the pull in washington that big pharma, alcohol and tobacco industries have… not even close…. you cant expect them to do it all…. its up to all of us….. educate as many people as you possibly can… bring it up in conversations as much as possible… get people talking about it…

I understand MPP and NORML are both running pretty much off donations and whatever profit merchandise sales and events can generate, but naming a date and organizing the event shouldn’t cost that much. I mean can anybody out there put a real number on it?
How much would it cost to organize a march on DC?

Dont we want a governemtn to look at all options and take advice from science and educators? Dont we all want the open debate so solutions can be made that are the best for the situation?

We all should be mad as hell for this falure to address this failed policy.

Yes Obama and his administration has done little to nothing to better our cause. They played they Cannabis/Drug reform and legalization movents like a fiddle to get our votes. We were told that he saw the problem wanted to fix it and that efforts would be in reform and science baese policies not continued stupidity!

We have to let them know we are not going to be fooled again and it was the internet and cannabis comunity that got him elected and we will also get him out next time aroud if they dont start to do what they told us they would.

Write your legislators, state and federal, write Obama and his Drug Czar, write everyone in DC and tell them as a citizens you want an end to the failed Drug War.

We have a voice in our votes, and we have to start voting based on the failed Drug War, that is, all of us only vote for the person that will end this and nopt vote for the guy thats the lesser of two evils. So if its a thrid party so be it, it will only take once for them to see our true power when they lose becasue we all voted for the third party. Just a thought but really what needs to happen!

A tid bit of info for you there are three species of the genus Cannabis; Indica, Sativa, and the industrial version ruderalis. ( http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis.shtml ) Other wise you bring up a good point.

to #13; Dont kill yourself on their lawn. It would either bring bad press upon the movement, or just get covered up/washed aside by some other irrelevant topic (like MJ’s death), as does everything else that makes the gov look like $#!T.

to#11 there is quit a bit more Americans using the internet on a daily bias these days…it probably related to the increasing unemployment rate.

The entire Obama administration is proving to be quite useless to everyone’s cause….with the exception of a hand full of people who benefit financially big time. We need to drop the elephant vs donkey situation. Both of them are working for the same people, all their candidates are just puppets of lobbyists and campaign contributors…we all see that, its obvious. We need independent PEOPLE in congress/senate, not these ancient mummies who haven’t seen a day in the average American life, EVER. I’d rather deal with a problem caused by a bunch of plumbers and bus drivers in congress, than the problems caused by these politicians….sadly I think years of misinformation, and apathy toward the gov, has left us all screwed. And whats worse I cant even afford the oil, to lube my @$$ as they, continually screw me.

To be honest,our voices mean nothing to these corrupt officials. We need to take action as citizens rather then pleading for a reform. A march on DC would be asbolutley moving and should not be that hard to organize. Spread the word of a potential rally, publish online reservation to get an estimate of how many people would even just consider being there, and as soon as the number of people reaches enough set a date. Basically voting to have something like this or not. Personally i know many people who would go and i know many who would also donate money to be able to go. I think the average american is the one who has to take action to change these laws. We obviously can not rely on government officials to look the war on drugs in the eye and face the facts. Another thing that outrages me is that i have been hearing rumors of movements in some states to lower the drinking age to 18? As an 18 year old myself i believe that this is incredibly stupid and i can not believe the odds of a lowered age to purchase alcohol(which kills an unruly amount of people a year) are better of happening then legalizing marijuana(no deaths related solely to this natural plant). Ideas such as this that make me shake my head in shame to the almighty USA. Land of the free?

26 msgtvance { 09.21.09 at 3:16 pm }

#13 “FreeTheWeed” -

You OK brother? You need to chill and reassess the situation. The marijuana movement is building momentum everyday. What we need is the “elites” and “Hollywood” actors who toke everyday to stand up and ask for action. We need our professional athletes who use marijuana to stand up and proclaim they use marijuana, not hide it. That would be the biggest momentum builder of all. Just look at Green House Seed Company’s website from Holland at how many popular people fly there for cannabis cup and toke [www.greenhouseseeds.nl]. The pro-marijuana movement needs help from the big trees, not just the blades of grass. Obama, talked a big talk when he was trying to get votes for a senate seat, now that he has it (President)… he just has to listen to the people who pad his pockets and his underlings pockets.

We need help from more than just ordinary citizens… MPP and NORML need to garner support from the under-employed actors, writers, professional athletes, news anchors, politicians, etc.

The reason Obama has not addressed the issue of legalizing marijuana is because we all know that if he were to legalize it, the chances of him getting re-elected in 2012 are slim to none. Therefore, I predict that Obama will wait until his second term (if he gets re-elected) to address the issue of marijuana legalization.

30 what a sham(e) { 09.21.09 at 4:58 pm }

To think Obama was in 2004 addressing crowds and stating how the drug war had failed and to see him and his administration do an about face on voters on this issue should tell us all we need to know: he and every other politician simply cannot be trusted. Period. Out with the two party system.

Obama is going to run on a free the weed campaign and as soon as he is elected for his second term we will see the same shit as we do now. There is no way he has the balls to actually tell the truth. I would gladly vote for him but he has to do the right thing first. If we are lucky he will free the weed first but , I don’t think so!!!

Just Legalize It,
Thank you for mentioning the U of Minnesota’s wasted money and efforts to remove THC (and thanks for adding a note as well). I’ve been trying to tell people about this, but most justshrug it off. It is a waste of money, usually from the taxpayers…maybe not directly but indirectly, and time that could be spent on other efforts.

I understand the want to wait until there are more numbers of people that are in favor of legalization, but I have a hard time doing the wait and see view of things. I live in AZ, and all we have going for us is the possibility of getting medical cannabis on the ballot for 2010. Everything happening in Arizona right now is infuriating and embarrassing. Arizona should look at legalization, but with everything so backwards here, I doubt we’ll even get medical use for cannabis. Hell! Even my doctors recommend me to use it! I am told that it is better for me than anything else, yet they can only give a prescription for drugs they don’t even recommend. I am very close to move my family because of how bad it is here.

Anyhow, Schwarzenegger better use his twitter project better than how Obama used his internet project!

Sorry all, bad day, so I’ll end it here. Still sick, possibly losing coverage and job, but hanging on as best we can.

High folks,
Interesting action about to happen concerning the governments flu shot. What if the same legal action could happen over the criminalization of the cannabis plant. I thought I heard Dr Horowitz say something about prisons being built for profit was part of the definition of genocide. If you are angry about someone forcing you to take some poison shot, and/or someone who is angry about their medicine being illegal(Cannabis), if you follow the power/money trail, you will see that we would be fighting the same people. Free the Cannabis plant now…no new taxes for the criminal government that is trying to take away your rights on a seemingly daily basis.

Have you seen this info on H1N1?

Dr. Leonard G. Horowitz and Sherri Kane, an investigative journalist, have released evidence in legal affidavits that leaders of a private global biotechnology “trust” are behind the pandemic flu, including its origin and alleged prevention via vaccinations. Their documents, being sent by attorneys to the FBI this week, evidence industrialists are operating a crime ring within the “Partnership for New York City” (PNYC), and are behind the pandemic’s creation, media persuasions, vaccination preparations, and health official promotions.
“David Rockefeller’s trust, that engages several powerful partners on Wall Street, including media moguls Ruppert Murdock, Morton Zuckerman, Thomas Glocer, and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Jerry Speyer, are implicated in advancing global genocide,” Dr. Horowitz wrote to FBI directors.

Scroll down to see the actual affidavit.

http://www.fluscam.com/Affidavit.html

Dr Horowitz said, “This ‘partnership’ controls biotechnology research and development globally. Health commerce internationally is also controlled virtually entirely by this trust that exercises near complete control over mainstream media to promote/propagandize its products and services for the drug cartel’s organized crime. This trust, in essence, makes or breaks medical and natural healing markets, primarily through the mass media companies and propaganda it wields for social engineering and market building,” Dr. Horowitz wrote.

The University of Minnesota believes it is close to removing the THC out of cannabis so that it can be used for industrial hemp. This is what’s called ‘reinventing the wheel’. The more time goes on, and the more our side gets frustrated, the more it becomes obvious to me that the Obama administration really wants to avoid speaking out against marijuana legalization. It’s also obvious that no one in the federal government can muster much of ANY defense, however weak, for continued marijuana prohibition. Really at this point this is the Obama administration trying to hold back the inevitable tide till a more opportune time. Why? With all the other highly controversial issues he’s addressing; with the bailouts, the Mexican drug war, the economy, gay marriage and espiecally health care reform, the Obama administration simply doesn’t have the political capital to make a push in either direction. At this point in time a strong statement for or a strong statement against legalization could lose him support for what he is aiming for with these other issues. Of course he understands that the marijuana issue is tied to many of these issues. He also understands politics. It’s a shame, but it’s reality.

In the end it’s up to us to give that added push to tip this thing. We see the success of these “Tea Parties”. We have these annual “Global Marijuana Marches”. Why can’t we turn these things, along with events like Seattle Hempfest and the Boston Freedom Rally, into more high profile events like the Tea Parties?

45 R.O.E. { 09.21.09 at 10:07 pm }

Trogo #40:
Yes I understand they maybe reinventing the wheel, but what if thats not the Idea? What if the Idea is to create a breed of cannabis that can be mated with normal cannabis and breed it out of usefulness to those that like it the way it is, in essence, breeding the weed to a point where they no longer have to have a drug war on it because the strain that gets you high no longer exists? They think out of the box, so must we.

You mentioned the tea parties,(which are a great thing) something that really pisses me off is this, if you march on washington these days for what ever reason,they marginalize you, call you nut jobs or extremists, say you dont repersent America, more to the point …ignore you. They do this cause your dont repersent their agenda. How long will we be ignored til , how long do we as Americans put up with the corruption? I’m sick of these elitists putting their own lives aheadf of the people.

At some point things will boil over and the violence that they say we activist want(and we dont) will happen because of their ignorance and corruption. People will get angery if your walk on them long enough.

CORRUPTION: A disease that spares no one.

46 mrc { 09.21.09 at 11:50 pm }

In the end it is money that politicians follow. I would be quite amused to see the cannabis community come together to donate to (bribe) some high profile politicians. Let’s all slip them $4.20 on 4-20, I’m sure that if enough of us did it we would suddenly become a much more valued constituency.

47 Trogo { 09.22.09 at 12:38 am }

#45 R.O.E.-
I believe there will be usefulness in the studies the University of Minnesota is doing. However, one of the primary purposes of engineering cannabis is for industrial and commercial purposes. While, that is not currently bad considering prohibition is in full effect, essentially it can be disastrous to those that are benefiting from cannabis’ current usefulness. My main issue with this is that the natural form of cannabis is useful as is, hence no reason to take it apart and rebuild it.

I might get crucified for this, but I don’t think the ‘Tea Parties’ worked or do work. While I’m sure there are many very well meaning people that were a part of those assemblies, but it’s those that had the signs of Obama painted as Hitler or the Joker that got the news. If all those in favor of legalization did assemble, I would try and discourage that kind of activity. I know everyone is enabled to free speech, but that kind of imagery is hateful and just pushes away the public. And we need all the support we can get without separating ourselves from those that we need assistance.

For me, the whole tea party thing turned me off and I am caught right in the middle of the health care problem. As it is now, me and my family will suffer and already do from the current health care situation. Almost any change is much needed, at least for my family and actually many others I know.

Sorry for my rambling.

Thanks for your rambling, Trogo. I’m also an Arizonan who has been hard hit by the recession and was put off by the Tea Parties. Rudeness , yelling, and outright hatefulness in some cases, is not the right way to effect change. I was able to enroll in our state’s health program, AHCCCS, and your family may qualify. As long as I’m officially poor, I can get health care if I need it…but I can’t afford cannabis these days. Black market prices are simply too much, and growing it is still so risky.

50 Just Legalize It { 09.22.09 at 6:58 am }

yea if there was a massive rally on DC, everyone would also be smoking and just like most marijuana rallies it would be quite peaceful…. im sure some people would get arrested, but if you have 1 million people, how many could they possibly arrest? honestly….. estimates at the boston freedom rally this weekend were 30,000 people… many of which were openly smoking… only 136 tickets were issued until the cops completely backed off altogether… it was way too peaceful for cops to even stick around the croud….. that is the measure of our resolve…. show up, smoke up, be peaceful…. show them the difference between a drunken crowd and a high crowd….. the difference is like night and day

Two things to find alarming about this: (1) On neither UTEP website, nor in the article on Newspaper Tree is there offered an explanation as to why Bersin and Kerlikowske backed out (or for that matter, no mention of it on THE HILL website either) and (2) Bersin was actually scheduled as a speaker (according to the UTEP website)…did he send anyone in his place to fill that slot?

52 Just Legalize It { 09.22.09 at 9:38 am }

I wrote a comment on an article about californias money woes… of course it was to legalize cause lets face it…. it would help substantially…. i got this for a response:

Oh, give it rest you patchouli-smelling, pothead idiot! They will never “just legalize it.” Do you get that? Is that hard to see? THEY WILL NEVER LEGALIZE IT.

Oh, and one more thing . . . THEY WILL NEVER LEGALIZE IT. Fool.

dont you just love the anger that spews from prohibitionists? if any of you would also like to comment on the subject here is the link http://www.dailyfinance.com/2009/09/22/no-more-california-dreamin-states-six-key-industries-all-in-b/1#c21811120

#19, and others: A few days past I put in a link to a post at another blog. It would have been a perfect opportunity for each of the readers and commenter’s here to post their thoughts. But not one of you has showed up there, so it leads me to believe you’re words are just words.
Now … don’t get mad at me because I’m on your side, just highly disappointed that no one jumped on the band wagon.
I’m doing my best there ALONE. I’m not the best at debate so I feel like I’ve failed in trying to right this wrong.

56 LGB { 09.22.09 at 12:51 pm }

#38 has it right on… breed the thc out, and then let it cross-pollinate to destroy God’s “good” thc and seed-producing strains… typical monsanto move to wipe out anything but frankencrops. The real problem for these bastards is industrial hemp, they might be thinking that it’s a good thing now, esp. if they have the only patent!

57 Just Legalize It { 09.22.09 at 1:45 pm }

i highly doubt its to cross pollinate to destroy weed because you would never be able to get it all…. remember, a lot of growing is done indoors and therefor would never be affected…. i personally believe its to take out the anti-cancer ingredient so people will get cancer from it so the government can say look! it causes cancer its staying illegal! and the madness continues

That was an interesting read, along with the comments, at NewspaperTree.com. Thank you MPP.

The other link, Global Public Policy Forum on the U.S. War on Drugs, was great too except I clicked on the youtube link and the video kept buffering and wouldn’t work right.

BTW Just Legalize It: I left a comment at the link you provided on #52.

Again, I’m disappointed in my fellow MJ supporters for not joining me at a discussion I shared with you. It’s going to come down to a hand full of individuals that get this done, and I’ll be one of those individuals.

lea… thanks i always try to get the cannabis discussion going in articles that dont have a strong cannabis fanbase….. btw what discussion?

61 Lea { 09.22.09 at 3:46 pm }

The post below this one, Read This Now. Really – by Bruce Mirken
comment #23.

The link I put in at comment #23 is a science blog.
The news article its self was pretty lame but it was an opportunity to get a discussion going that would in the end reach a large audience because there are several other blogs connected, it’s not just this one (Effect Measure).

62 Trogo { 09.22.09 at 3:58 pm }

I did go to that site and read the article and comments. I apologize that I didn’t participate, but sometimes I get so tired of having to argue with so many ignorant prohibitionists that seem to only argue by way of insults and condemnation. It’s the same reason I try to avoid arguments involving religion or politics. But, please don’t think you are alone because you are not.

63 Trogo { 09.22.09 at 3:59 pm }

—Almost forgot to mention that sometimes if a site requires a login I’ll bypass making a comment entirely. I have enough passwords and logins to remember as it is than to add one more.

Not sure if you guys saw this already but its the California Narcotics Officers Association Education Guide to Use of Marijuana as “Medicine”.

You guys will be appalled once you read their training manual.

Here’s the link:

Green Soul Jah-
Thank you for posting that! That is the most ludicrous piece of propaganda I have ever seen…and that’s mostly because of who it is directed!

67 Just Legalize It { 09.22.09 at 8:41 pm }

what i dont understand… why, with all we know about cannabis, does the pharmacutical company market a pill with ONLY the man made phsychoactive ingredient and not any of the stuff that makes cannabis medicine? to even say cannabis isnt medicine is just pure ignorance…….. good find green soul jah

68 Medical Cannabis Institute { 09.22.09 at 10:42 pm }

Great find Green Soul Jah.

Would be great if everyone passed the link around especially in San Diego to let the public know why they are treating medical patients like criminals there.

69 R.O.E. { 09.22.09 at 11:03 pm }

Green soul jah:

Man that manual just shows how propaganda keeps people stupid. They said in it there was no valuable research on cannabis but then turns around and states the fds has approved maroniol for use. Whats the hell, didnt they do studies in order to produce marinol? What about all the studies do by independant universities in the medical feild? what are they saying, that these medical professionals are lying?

God, please come sort these crooks out for us, your childern are enslaved by them.

70 Lea { 09.22.09 at 11:53 pm }

Thanks Trogo #62 for the acknowledgement.

Let me just say though, and please don’t take it personally, there comes a time when MJ reformers must step out of their comfort zone and do things they wouldn’t normally do. That would include logging into new sites to add a comment. There’s no real danger as long as you have adequate internet virus programs.

Also stepping out of the comfort zone would include being able to take harsh criticism and not be offended or swayed by it. Ignorance abounds when it comes to this subject, just look at the link Green Soul Jah #65 posted. From that vantage point we must be ready for the lies, stupidity, and resistance coming from those that have believed the Prohibitionists.

Anyway, forget it, the momentum has been lost and it’s now an “older post”, one that people that frequent the site will now just ignore. I’ll hone my skills and be better prepared next time to comment and convince those that are skeptical to give up their manipulated and wrong thinking.

71 Trogo { 09.23.09 at 1:39 am }

No offense taken. With my illness (still undiagnosed..whatever it may be) it comes down to how well and motivated I feel that day. I do make concerted efforts when talking to people, including doctors. Some people may not be surprised about this, but it is actually surprising how little doctors know. Everything I’ve told my doctors they had no knowledge of, and now they recommend cannabis if I am able to use it (meaning if I happen to have it).

72 Clarence { 09.23.09 at 4:35 am }

1974, The year before I started smoking herbs. This was the year that proved cannabis was very effective in cancer treatments. 35 years later and we still are being lied to by everyone . No wonder those a–holes are not going to show up. I am getting pissed off even more as I write this. Who can a cannabis user trust is another cannabis user, and thats about all. 420.com has this story and I hope the world hears about this story before I get home from work today. 35 years of gov. censorship is 35 years to long. The drug co.’s and big money to polititions has kept this hidden and now the world must know. Stay cool, keep tokin and over grow big brother!!!

73 ElisaG { 09.23.09 at 6:01 am }

JUSTLEGALIZE…I wrote a comment to Lilly too…asking her if it were true that “Ignorance is bliss”….thank God she and the other cave dwellers are in the minority!

74 Green Soul Jah { 09.23.09 at 8:23 am }

If that’s what they use to train Narco Officers in California, I wonder what they are teaching in other states?!?!?!

Let’s just hope the Narco Officers have enough sense to smell the BS, but then again I’m sure they aren’t willing to risk they paychecks and careers over it……..I can only imagine if racism and discrimination were still in the books, would they still continue to enforce the law??? Seems like common sense isn’t so common among Law Enforcement

Please pass the link around so everyone knows what kind of tyranny this government is unleashing on it’s own citizens……

This country has become a prison without walls, and we are allowing them to do it us……..

Please pass the link and let everyone know that the government has turned against it’s own people.

You know what’s interesting about that Narcotics Officers “Medical” Marijuana Training Manual is they named Dick Cowan in it. I do believe he left NORML to pursue the medical end of cannabis.

Lea :

I went to the site you linked to about the pot-brownie story and have posted some comments as well…. sorry for taking so long…

TO everyone else:

Lea is right… it only takes a few seconds to register on some of these sites, so go do it. Those of us that come to MPP, NORML, etc. are probably some of the most well informed people on the subject (because of our involement)… we come here and bitch and moan about the lies that have been told. We need to take every opportunity to straighten out the record. We need to get out there and make a discussion about marijuana happen even when the discussion is on a different topic.

I left a comment on that blog thanking you. Marvelous job, thanks for your support.

this is what i’m talking about .. some leadership out of texas .. too bad it’s coming from a magazine but nevertheless, it’s something .. and it’s BIG.
The last paragraph does my heart good:
If a smaller or less influential state were to go the legalization route, it might be ignored as insignificant or quashed as a warning to others. (Who knew that Alaska already allows its citizens to possess enough cannabis for a hundred joints?) If California does it, other states will smirk for a while, writing it off as more Left Coast looniness, then gradually fall in line with similar measures of their own. In the meantime, billions more dollars will be wasted and millions more lives harmed. But if Texas, famous for its independent spirit and conservative mien, were to legalize marijuana, the world would take note, and great and beneficial change would sweep across the country.

Patience everyone..
Barak really has his bandwidth meter pegged and he simply cannot risk public opinion right now. Health care reform is far more important than legal pot. He will hook a brother up when the time comes and the American public can absorb it. There’s still less than a majority that favors legalization, face it! There will soon be a need for a federal policy because of the increasing number of compassionate states and their widely varying laws and reciprosity confusion. The 7-11 Gangsta Dispensaries are done and that’s the best thing to happen. Let a few greedy thugs fuc* it up for everyone else, the greasy sloths. They risk every patient’s golden privilege and they cockymock the government. Obvious victims of inbreeding.
After all of these years there’s no reason to be in a hurry when things are happening so rapidly. Medical cannabis is here to stay and the trend is spreading like wildfire. Just hold tight and enjoy the show!
