A series of bus advertisementsSide_Bus_Portland have been launched in Portland, Maine in support of Question 1.  On November 5, Portland voters will decide on a city ordinance that proposes removing penalties for adults possessing up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana. The ads feature adults explaining why they prefer marijuana to alcohol and ask, “why should adults be punished for making a safer choice?” You can see all of the ads here.

  1. I read the transit avertisements saying, “I Perfer marijuana over alcohol because”.

Coincedently, two years I attended a transit conference in Portland Main and later that night was out on the town. On the way home my friend and I stopped at a pizza shop on Main St. During a 10 minute wait an extreamly drunk customer got out of control with me. He spilled beer on me called me a racial slur, (and he was Irish just like me) and then he knocked over several tables and chairs as he left the shop and then got into his car. (That’s Scarry)!

After he was gone the person behind the counter thanked me for dealing with the “asshole” so well. (As a mass transit driver I’ve had extensive training to deal with the public). He then said, “Ya know I never have any trouble dealing with the POTHEADS. They never cause any problems and they also buy a lot of pizza.

They should put that story on the side of the busses.

  2. MARIJUANA SHOULD NOT IREPEAT SHOULD BECOME LEGALIZE FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSEES OR FOR MEDCINAL PERPOSES. THE REASON WHY IS THIS COUNTRY HAS GOT ENOUGH PROBLEMS IN IT NOW & WE DAMN SURE DON’T NEED TO ADD TO IT WITH A BUNCH OF SORRY GOOD FOR NOTHING POTHEAD RUNNING AROUND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE. 3. Jeez! Somebody needs to smoke a bowl and chillax. ;D

Keep up the Great work MPP. Countermanding the false propaganda about Cannabis is the only way we’ll win.

  4. @Richard Lee Worley JR.

You sir are misinformed, I am formerly a resident of washington state, where marijuana was leaglaized for casual use on december 8th 2012, I held a job, paid my rent, have insurance, and never caused problems in my neighborhood. I had friends, family, and fun. I have since the made more friends, changed jobs to a higher paying job with benefits, and have entered into a healthy relationship with a wonderful woman. I enjoy the sensations that I recieve from smoking cannabis, and I know how to put it down when work, or relationship matters require attention.

The misconception that ‘potheads’ are useless, lazy, and ‘good for nothing’ is a widely spread propoganda that a large portion of society has bought into. Science is disproving it’s alleged harmful affects on people, and the reform in progress is dispelling the social stigma associated with the use of marijuanna.

Most americans support alchohol being legal, in spite of the fact that it is scientifically more harmful to the human body, statsistically is involved in violent crimes such as murder, rape, domestic violence, as well as drunk driving accidents, bar fights and much more. Yet when alcohol was made illial during the prohibition, people kept drinking it, it even created a black market for the manufacturing and distribution of alchohol just like the drug market.

When alchohol was releaglized the blackmarket disappeared for it, it opened up retail jobs, production jobs, shipping jobs, and made it taxable. It generates large ammounts of revenue and profit for it’s sales and is controlled by strict regulations.

If you’d like to continue to feed into the sterotype regarding cannabis users then be my guest, but i personally hope you open your eyes to logic.

I’d like to point out to you that even though your entire message was written in capital letters, which signifies yelling, and that i feel your views are misguided, I have spoken with respect, kindness, and well articulated sentances and well thought out points. Do I resemble the ‘pothead’ you seem to think we are? Please consider these points before you go around bashing other peole for living their lives in a different manner than you.

While he goes way overboard…I do know several potheads who are utterly useless. However, there are also plenty of alcoholics who are equally useless and much less violent…but both are very depressing to see. While not everyone will end up burning through a gram a day, living like a slob in a dead end job with no desire to improve themselves, quite a few already do and more will….I wonder how many will succumb to that lifestyle if it becomes legalized…but the solution to that I believe lies in overall education reform.

While i agree there are a wide range of reaponsses there are also a wide range of users. Some people are that wy naturally, some peopole don’t have the self control to use in moeration. But i do think that being ducated on a topic is the beat way to make a decision.

I peronally believe that ones rights end when they interfere with another’s and as long as a user is not harming anyone, in any manner i don’t believe that anyone else has the rit to tell them whatthey can and can not put into their body.

There should be a repository of information in which fats, and fiction are clearly designated in rergards to many topics, alchohol, each of the various drugs legal and non, down to the affect prolonged caffne use has on your body.

The pele you mention hving seen, if they arriwnda think about if you knew them before their using drugs or alchohol, and consider if thier behavior now is much different than before their use started, if not then they may have trouble controling their habbit. The best you can do for them is be upportive and auggeat they slow down, stop, or seek other help. There are many reasons people use drugs, some are benign like mine, i just enjoy it. Others are a little sad, being unhappy with their life, metal or physical dependnce.

You can’t make someone quit if they don’t want to. But if they’re looking for a way out point out how much better off they’d be. They would have more money, better health, have time to do other things that they enjoy, or to go do new things.

Everyone has someone theycare about, but it’s their life to live as they see fit, and as long as their not hurting anyone, be happy that they’re happy.
