Just Say Now

Progressive political blog FireDogLake launched its online marijuana legalization campaign yesterday. Complete with a website and an advisory board that includes former law enforcement officers, physicians, and activists, the campaign—called “Just Say Now”—is designed as a “transpartisan” nexus of sorts for the growing nationwide movement to end marijuana prohibition.

Partnering with FDL for the campaign is Students For Sensible Drug Policy, which recently made an excellent decision by naming our former colleague Aaron Houston as its new executive director. Though we miss Aaron’s presence in the office, his new position ensures that he’ll continue to play a leading role in combating the destructive policies of marijuana prohibition.

For more, check out this clip of FireDogLake founder and publisher Jane Hamsher announcing the “Just Say Now” campaign on CNN.

Tim Rosales was pathetic on his response to the issue. His method to persuade people was heavily distorted with lies. Then doing a few immature cheap shots by shaking his head with a smile trying to distract the listeners from hearing Jane Hamsher’s updated facts.

Marijuana Prohibition is going down down down with no facts to support.

Her debate opponent in the video mentions that bitch Diane Feinstein as being representative of California. That is laughable! Diane has held her office long enough. Now it’s time to go. She’s anti-cannabis in a state that has legalized medical marijuana, and hopefully will also legalize it through the ballot initiative in November. It’s ridiculous for Feinstein to claim to represent people from a state that has legal cannabis and draft and support anti-cannabis legislation. The party machine should put the big money behind somebody else, somebody new, who will be pro-cannabis and represent Californians in D.C. in a pro-cannabis way. DiFei, get da f**k out!

On the up swing i just went to the local yamaha dealer ship and had a conversation with the dealer, an older 50s gent who himself brought up the legalization movement being voted on in november. He said he and many more that he talks to are all for it. YES CALIFORNIA!

Holy Smokes! Tim’s been drinking the kool-aid. Making money of the prohibition of marijuana. Tim is a moron. Giving drug cartels a platform to legal profit from marijuana, they are making way much more with it prohibited. Morally corrupt.

Rosales is way off, I personally know people who have been incarcerated for a joint, even a friend from work who was arrested for a roach in an ashtray. These prohibitionists seem to be only motivated by hate, lies, and selfishness. Because we all know Mr. Rosales surely isn’t a “campaign manager” free of charge.

Whenever the prohibitionist say it is not true when someone mentions the arrest record the antiprohibitionist should reply that “You are correct it is not truth, it is a fact!” since truth is somthing you believe and fact is somthing you can prove with all of that scientific mumbo jumbo!

Jinx138, I recently had an exchange with someone who was using the “small possession is only a traffic ticket in California” .

I reminded the writer that whatever the result of small possession, the Proposition 19 will allow small CULTIVATION, which is currently a lose-your-house, lose-your-kids offense just about everywhere, including California.

You’re right that the facts are that mj users are treated as criminals, and those who would grow their own are uniformly treated as felons. It’s the ability to grow one’s own that will ultimately shut down the cartels and make our nation safer.

If news article comments are any indication of the general population’s views then I have no doubt prop 19 will pass. Every article I read about this prop has people cheering. It’s too bad I moved to Washington state earlier this year, I would have been proud to cast my yes vote at my kids’ school which is used as a polling place. Rosales is a misinformed idiot. Now, to find a way to afford the move back to my beautiful hometown of San Diego.

NH needs to change

Back in the 1800s, even though electronic medical tests like MRI, CAT Scan, etc. weren’t around, it seems people had the right idea using plant items as medicine and using marijuana was no exception. Pain of diseases like cancer was treated with laudanum (opium) and then other herbs were used to make non-sedating medicines. I would much rather use a natural product than some of the harmful medicines used nowadays where death is a side-effect! This crap of the so-called family values crowd deciding what are legal drugs and the war on drugs has got to go!

I have started thinking that those who are from their heart against the legalization divide into two groups: those who are plainly stupid and those who get money from the prohibition. It is absurd that this kind of psycho circus has been going on for so long time. I live in Europe and in my country pot laws are not that hard like in most of the US States. If a person gets busted for growing few herbs at his home, he just gets a fine of usually max 500€ without a jail, but it still goes through the court. For possession of small amounts it´s just a small fine that police will give you like a normal parking ticket. Still, it is all against common sense to keep weed illegal. After every weekend i see news in the local media that someone beated a stranger in the street under the influence of alcohol etc. I have never seen news that would have connected cannabis into violence. It is crazy that governments don´t give a safer alternative for alcohol. Many people die every year from alcohol-related diseases, overdoses and accidents. That is “normal”, but the guy who grows weed for his own entertainment, at his own home, without hurting anyone (probably not even himself) with his hobby, he is a real criminal…?? It blows up my mind! Not to mention criminal markets that we have nowadays, again, thanks to the prohibition. Legalization of drugs would clean most of the criminal elements out of the scene. Some of them of course would stay, but amount of them would be reduced radically. As one scientific study I once read said: It is not a “bad” DNA that makes you a criminal, usually it is just an opportunity to make money fast and easy. I predict that many of these ex-criminals would find themselves as taxpayers if drugs were legalized. In my vision, cannabis should be sold like an alcohol in normal shops and hard drugs – from specific “clinic” where there is always a doctor, psychologist and addiction specialist available for guiding to the path of drug free live if the user feels that his/her drug use is out of hands. I am so happy that in the US cannabis legalization movement is getting stronger. Global cannabis prohibition started from there and i believe that the legalization will also start from there. Let the science, and not ideologies or religions, guide politics. Harm reduction is the way to go, keep up the good work!!!

That guy should be ashamed of himself. He is the one who isn’t being genuine with his numbers. The numbers she quoted were FROM THE GOVERNMENT, not a private firm. He is a poor excuse for a human being and I’m sure he’s drinking his liver killing alcohol and popping his pills each day while he points at marijuana as the evil of the world. This guy should be fired or at least made to sit through a documentary like “The Union” so that he can understand how badly misinformed he is. What a tool!

That’s horrible. Seems to me that treatment like that should be illegal, not something that alleviates suffering.

26 MarkH { 08.13.10 at 5:44 am }

OK ideally we would like to put the Mexican Cartels out of business, but lets be honest, That’s not going to happen. Crime has been around since the first cave man who discovered it was easier to take from others than to do for himself. But Tim says it would be bad to give them a legal market to work from? REALLY?!!? Lets say the Mexican Cartels start operating legally. HOW IS THAT BAD? If they are operating with in the confines of the law, they’re not killing thousands of people every year, or growing illegal crops in state parks making them unsafe for people to utilize them. Their proceeds will be taxed, jobs will be created, and they’ll still take a cut in profit because you can’t sell a legal product for as much as an illegal product. I’ll bet the end of alcohol prohibition turned some gangsters into legitimate business people who continued to make money from alcohol. So WHY, Tim, is it bad to take the guns and killing out of the marijuana trade? Lets impose restrictions and regulations we can enforce, instead of keeping a failed and dangerous policy going.

27 Dustin { 08.13.10 at 6:15 pm }

First of all, I’d like to say, Tim, YOU sir, are an idiot. Cheap shots, snide comments, shaking your head and smiling to deter people from listening to the other side, if thats how you debate an issue then you should go back to school. You have ABSOLUTELY NO FACTS WHATSOEVER to back your statements and combined with the idiotic comments you made will make me and everyone i know plus their friends to VOTE YES TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA. Oh and if you ever watch this video, make sure you get a notebook. Because YOU SIR, just got schooled. Next time, before you make a fool of yourself yet again on national television, make sure you know what your talking about.
