Inventor of Fake Marijuana Wants the Real Thing Taxed and Regulated
The news has been all abuzz for the last several months about various forms of designer drugs meant to mimic marijuana. Called Spice, K2, and a million other mildly clever names, these substances usually consist of a synthetic cannabinoid sprayed over plant matter. The resulting euphoria is supposed to be similar to the effects of marijuana. Unfortunately, it is also untested and has been reported to have all sorts of nasty side effects. Enter the DEA, who recently asked the FDA to temporarily ban several of these chemicals, pending a more permanent solution.
Needless to say, most people probably wouldn’t use these chemicals if they could legally use marijuana. Many users of the synthetics report drug tests for probation or work to be their main reason for using it. The Navy had to start testing for it regularly, so prevalent was its use among the oft-drug-tested sailors. Once again, we have prohibition encouraging people to use drugs more dangerous than marijuana.
The inventor of these substances, John W. Huffman of Clemson University, strongly warns against using them and thinks they should be banned. What does he think should be legal?
In an interview this week with the L.A. Times, Huffman said marijuana should be taxed and regulated, and had this to say:
“You can’t overdose on marijuana, but you might on these compounds,” he said. “These things are dangerous, and marijuana isn’t, really.”
I wonder if the DEA will listen. Probably just the “dangerous” part.

In my lifetime I have seen, felt and experienced the effects of alcohol. My parents were alcoholics. The US Army was alcoholic. Parties, graduations, sports, births…all alcoholic. While a soldier in Vietnam I was introduced to maryjane. From the very first toke something inside my head clicked and I knew that maryjane was very different. The people who associated with her were different. They didn’t stumble or slur their speech. They didn’t fight, pee or vomit on each other. In fact I was impressed that they carried on intelligent conversations. They discussed politics, poetry, books they had read. At a young age of 18 I knew I was on to something. I gave up alcohol and started a relationship with maryjane. Through the war she was their when I needed her and she helped a young soldier to make sense of the hell he was in. I brought her home with me and she was there to help ease me back into the real world, to calm a raging mind and to help me to laugh again and be around normal people again who didn’t know what it was like kill people or throw grenades or fire mortars. She was gentle, natural medicine for a young soldier’s PTSD. If the truth were told, I probably owe her my life! To the ignorant, alcoholic folks who have never tried mj and are so afraid of her because of 70 years of lies about her, give her a try, she just may save your life too.
I hear Newt Gingrich made his 21st century “contract with America”. In this, he apparently said if he is voted president, he will sign 150 executive orders. One of which he said he will get rid of all the czars….really?
So, I would like everyone to contact Newt and ask him if that means getting rid of the drug czar as well. Bet he backs out….or lies.
Hers the story.
