Drug War Delusions
There are a lot of colorful characters who, for fun and profit, devote their lives to prolonging the war on marijuana users, no matter how much damage it causes to society or how little it does to stem drug trade violence.
Many of these drug warriors are clearly unhinged, their views informed more by blind zealotry than by sober policy analysis. That’s why I hesitate to post this video of longtime anti-drug culture warrior Joyce Nalepka attempting to disrupt a recent MPP-sponsored press conference regarding faulty drug tests administered by law enforcement. After all, there are shaky folks on all sides of the marijuana policy debate, and I don’t think it’s right to single out the clowns on such a serious matter.
However, as Nalepka herself points out in this exchange with MPP’s Rob Kampia, she has drug policy experience – if not expertise – and the larger, federal drug war establishment hasn’t exactly tried to disassociate itself from her. She’s president of Drug Free Kids: America’s Challenge and was once president of the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, which Nancy Reagan chaired during her husband’s presidency.
So who am I to protect her if she wants to make a fool of herself? Here she is, squaring off against Rob, in all her indignant, delusional glory …

This just….wow….
I love how at the end of the video she is still complaining saying that everytime we smoke a joint we put money in the afghani hands…she has to realize how dumb she makes herself sound…right?
Reply to #1: Yeah, pretty crazy since I’ve never been anywhere outside the United States, *smirk*
With people like that, maybe it’s about time to [move out of the US] if legalization doesn’t work out in the near future.
Joyce Nalepka has long been a recipient of delusional Reaganite drug policy. Remember the old adage “Who benefits?” Certainly she has been rewarded for her amplifier role. That drudging role is no longer useful. Soon she will find more time to reflect on the irrelevance and deceit of her crusade. Your time has expired Ms. Napelka.
o wow? that old lady makes me laugh shes stupid as hell =p
“I quote Mrs.Nalepka” Everytime you smoke a joint you put money in to the hands of dealers and terrorist”… NO NO NO You are wrong, prohibition is too blame for putting the cash in these peoples hands. Stop throwing our tax dollars out the window on a drug war that 63% of American people don’t support. Stop locking people up like animals.. Theres a better way, cause your way is NOT working. If you wish not to drink ,then don’t drink. If you wish not to smoke Marijuana, then don’t smoke Marijuana. Should be a choice what i put in my body. A choice that i should make for myself NOT a choice for you to make for me Mrs.Nalepka. It’s called “FREEDOM” and i would like some.
Ohhhhh…. And one other thing Mrs.Nalepka, let us grow our own and you have nothing to worry about. Those dealers will get NOTHING. Simple huh!!!!
…says the video isn’t available anymore…
Wow, now THAT lady is a crazy whack job for sure!
She should be ashamed for supporting a failed policy that put innocent people in prison for so long. She herself should do time for spreading insanity across the country. Her doing is the real crime in this country. Shame on her!
Rob Kampia (as my little cousin would say) “pwned” that “newb”.
Even if her claims were true, Joyce Nalepka’s ridiculous argument about marijuana funding the 9/11 terrorists only makes legalization look like the more reasonable solution. If we were growing and consuming our own bud, the terrorists wouldn’t have been funded, right?
One thing’s for sure, I’ve gained even more respect for Mr. Kampia. He kept his respectful poise throughout Nalepka’s heckling and interruptions, something I could’ve never done. I don’t think I could’ve gotten through that w/o calling her a name or at least being sarcastic.
is she the old confused woman from the McCain rally who said Obama is an Arab?
Believe or not, most American Citizens are aware of the incorrectness that takes place in the statements from people like Joyce Nalepka. It’s a sure sign of desperate attempts on the part of opponents. Remain humble, prohibition is dying fast this year all accross the USA and in turn in many other Countries as well. Now that organizations like ours (MPP) have been use to such a long hard battle against prohibition, we’ll have to refrain from squashing the opponents in there not so wise actions and spreading of misinformation. People like Joyce Nalepka are a dime a dozen folks and in the future when they need a cure that comes from medical marijuana, they’ll choose death and that’s a personal choice.
Damn it, will someone please assign an MPP Journalist to presenting primarily the cures as well as the comforts enjoyed by so many patients using marijuana products in it’s many forms especially hemp oil that is a known cure for cancer. Publish the proof and silence the crazies like Joyce Nalepka with MPP’s Journalism experts. Or you could send me to do the job for you.
TENNESSEE ACTIVIST-VOLUNTEERING IS IN OUR BLOOD
Finally saw the video…
In the words of Angelica Graynamore, “I have no response to that.”
I thought the 9/11 terrorism via cannabis went away when they found out more kids tried it after seeing the ads. I being to wonder if the ONDCP isn’t in the business of getting the kids to start to smoke so they perpetuate their role in the future.
PERFECTLY BRAINWASHED
People who accuse people of supplying Afghani terrorists by smoking marijuana always neglect to mention that the US occupied Afghanistan and the locals immediately began to regrow the opium fields that the Taliban had destroyed.
Who cares about opium though, when we have the killer weed to worry about?
A quick question:
The government holds a patent on medicines made from cannabis. This is fact and we know it. The question that I have is “Why isn’t a medical defense allowed for possession and consumption?”
For cannabis to remain schedule 1 it has to have no recognized medicinal value. Since the government lists specific conditions that cannabis is useful in alleviating how can it still have no recognized medicinal value. Doesn’t their own patent show and say that it has medicinal value?
Obama says he wants a transparent government. If he doesn’t change the drug laws then he and they are transparent. At least I can see through them.
Peace, Love, and Pot
in the bible it says god does not judge us by what we put in our body but by what comes out
or sumthin along those lines
Definitely a delusional heckler looking to waste everyone’s time with her rambling diatribe.
@ Cheebs, it seems you are under the impression many aspects of our govt. are not self contradictory.
Our govt. has so many diametrically opposed goals and actions, at times I see it like that sucking animal in The Yellow Submarine movie.
It sucked everything up, then somehow sucked itself in to oblivion.
Of course we all hope Barack has the _____ to clean house and get rid of the corrupt powers that be. He needs to remember that it wasn’t the hyper conservative congregation, or holier than thou congregation, where his donations and votes came from. And from what I heard it wasn’t big pharma who made most of the donations.
I know I am impatient for positive action from him on this matter, but it seems to me he is spending more time pandering to the superficial suits than he should be. Too many people are stuck in la-la land thinking “technology is going to save us” and buying in to much-too-distant “cures,” well, some of the best cures for our ills are here and now! And in fact are solutions already devised decades ago.
Stubborn people like Joyce Nalepka are busy sending innocent people like Charles Lynch to prison, and keeping my 81 year old dad, who is getting Alzhiemer’s, from taking part in studies to learn more about the curative powers of this plant.
odds are 6/7 of those grandchildren have, still do or eventually will use marijuana so doesn’t that mean your to blame aswell for funding terrorism I mean if we look at things from your perspective.
This is why Marijuana should be legal….. MUST SEE… Got raided and shot in the chest and was unarmed
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/MI_cops_shoot_unarmed_20yearold_marijuana_0316.html
when all else fails blame it on the terrorists
how ever i do agree it is an issue but the problem is all the issues stop when it is leaglized and controlled rather than letting people not only sale it to kids like my 10 year old son who recently learned about mj. from outside sources but to the money which leads to more crimes. we need to control it. freedom not terror tactics
I guess we all noticed that Joyce Nalepka’s remarks about her grandchildren’s loss otheir father in 9/11 has nothing to do with MJ, and that every joint we smoke does not put money in the hands of Afghan trafficers! She speaks evenly enough, but her own fellow warrior-types know those are pitiful claims. Why do they not denounce her? Could it be that they don’t CARE what the truth is? If she can accomplish their goals with lies, they would not seem to care. THEY are all pitiful… It’s so easy to stand by NORML and MPP! You make so much sense!
I notice nobody put their real names on their comments. Why not?
Yes, I wish someone would think about all the money that is going into the terrorists’ hands. Why continue to allow the black market to pull in all the profits from marijuana (and all illicit drugs for that matter) when you know damn well where that money can end up. People are going to do drugs and marijuana. If the Prohibition of drugs has told us anything, it is just that. Prohibition is the cause of gang violence and terrorist riches, not my medicinal use of marijuana. I’m sorry, but if she hasn’t seen this in 25 years of prohibitionist tyranny, she’s blind; but what’s new, she’s a prohibitionist.
Richard Savary, why do you want our real names? Or should i say officer Savary?
Is she stoned?
Please email Dianne Feinstein and your local representatives in an articulate manner to illustrate the lunacy of this failed War. Recently, Ms Feinstein wrote me and explained why she would not support AB 390 in CA citing her experience with users. I have since replied but received no answer. My premise was, “why is it OK to incarcerate (marijuana) drug users when alcohol and tobacco are far more addictive and dangerous than cannabis. Here is her contact page:
http://feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=ContactUS.EmailMe
I sent Diane an email encouraging her to “think outside of the box” . Thanks for the link, logan9.
Can someone please email me more information, Im writing a paper on this for my news reporting and writing class, it would be awesome if someone could. Thank you for your time.
Mrs. Nalepka, what you’ve just said……is one of the most insanely, idiotic things I have every heard. At no point, in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything, that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in that room, is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.
Wow. Rob Kampia really put that hag in her place.
He’s right, she’s a fanatical prohibitionist and deserves respect from no one. She’s like the Elliot Ness of the Drug War.
Apparently she hasn’t gotten the memo yet that the War on Drugs is a complete failure and hasn’t put the slightest dent in the demand and supply of drugs…
Though think about this: many of these prohibitionists start singing a different tune when they think about how the Drug War has affected the US. Take Bob Barr, for example. He once helped create an amendment to block the District of Columbia from allowing medical marijuana in Washington DC, which I think 69% of the voters approved. But then, somewhere along the line, he must have realized what a mistake that was and changed his mind, and is now working to repeal the amendment he once helped to create (and ultimately legalize).
Maybe she will change her mind too?
Give us Joyce Nalepka contacts!!! Please!!!
Email? Address? Phone?
Please? Just a little heckle?
Nice piece, Dan – and a great response by Rob. I’d love to get Joyce to appear on The Opium Den!
IF THIS MISGUIDED LADY WAS SERIOUS ABOUT GETTING “DRUGS” OUT OF THE HANDS OF CHILDREN, SHE WOULD BE A CHAMPION OF RE-LEGALIZATION. IN ANY EVENT, A CHILD SMOKING MARIJUANA IS NOT A PROBLEM. IT IS A SYMPTOM. THE PROBLEM IS FAILED PARENTING.
I agree with all in favor of making people like Joyce Nalepka look like the uninformed idiots they really are. As far as Medical marijuana being a farce or whatever – I PRAY that GOD IN HEAVEN gives her the worst form of pancreatic cancer that a person could get and she has to go through numerous Chemo treatments. She should be made to stay at a Chemo treatment center for a week and have her see clinical experiments that reaffirm that Medical Marijuana is indeed very real and very useful.
What’s up with the dude wanting our real names – man you better explain yourself- or you’re a cop and go fish somewhere else. Someday you’ll be out of a job…LEGALLY.
By Joyce’s own argument she reaffirms the need to regulate and tax marijuana even though she’s full of the hottest of air.
I WISH Rob would have turned briefly and told her that…and then asked her to name each of her grandkids and their birthdays. I’ll bet you my last buck she spends so much time campaigning to ruin lives that she’s out of touch with her own family. That would have shut her up and he would have definitely got in the last word. Next time Rob…PLEASE…never let a heckler get the last word…BUT GREAT Job on composure! I am soooooo damned sick of their same ole’ B.S. Damn, you need a moon suit to wade through that toxic waste. Anslinger, Nixon Ronald and Nancy Reagan and Joyce Needalife -I hope you all roast in HELL! You’ve helped to ruin my life along with millions of peaceful and intelligent person’s lives.
