Czech Republic to Decriminalize Personal Marijuana Possession
One more country has decided to take a meaningful step toward ending marijuana prohibition.
Starting next year, citizens of the Czech Republic will be able to grow up to five marijuana plants and possess “several marijuana cigarettes” for personal use, without fear of criminal prosecution.
According to the Wall Street Journal:
“The plant still remains illegal, however, though from the new year possession of five or less plants is merely a misdemeanor, and fines for possession will be on par with penalties for parking violations.”
How many more countries will implement significant marijuana policy reforms before our federal government decides it’s time to act?

When will the U.S.A. get with the program and reform our insane laws? The people want reform now! Is Freedom a hollow word we use because of this Prohibition?
I know someone on YouTube who is from the Czech Republic. This is cool.
It’s nice when the adults in charge are nice enough to tell other adults what they can and can’t do in their homes. Hooray!
**(snark)** Yeah, but they’re commies, what do you expect!
Hell I wouldnt put it pass our government to proclaim war on any country that doesnt buy into their propaganda.
Ok thats a pissimistic defeatist attitude,we dont need that , But really, all these other countries have see the light, all we have is perpetual twighlight.
Freedom is seeming very hollow indeed at this point.
Prague is about to become a much more popular vacation destination.
Every day, I lose faith in the US Government to do the right thing. It’s blatantly obvious that a large majority of the population wants this…but as another year comes to an end, Cannabis remains illegal. Pathetic really.
The U.S. government needs to realize that the prohibition of cannabis isn’t doing anyone good. It’s causing crime and violence, and people who could really use it for medical purposes can’t get it except in a few wise states. Our government needs to get its act together and take notice to the fact that alcohol and tobacco, while legal, cause much more damage than cannabis, which is illegal.
So this isn’t really that big of news to be honest. And no, Prague probably wont’ be any “cooler.”
I went the the beautiful city of Prague a year ago and had no trouble finding head shops and bars to sell me a few grams of the ganja. I understand that now the law has changed, but the police never really arrested small possession of marijuana in Prague anyway, I smoked many joints on the streets and had no trouble.
That’s Good, but what the heck it’s still illegal.
well its a step in the right direction you bastard wentoprague. Don’t worry about our government doing the right thing our government is the wrong thing alltogether. America sucks i am not proud to be an american because we aren’t doing the right thing for the people ever. Now look at Canada we are screwing there country up . Time for a revolution.
How many more countries will implement significant marijuana policy reforms before our federal government decides it’s time to act? That’s the Trillion dollar question isn’t it?
There’s lot of reasons that could be listed and we all pretty much know that it centers around greed and control. What has me really curious lately is Rahm Emmanuel, he seems to be pulling the strings and as I’ve heard is extremely Pro Prohibition.
That and it’s going to be a hard one for the US government to explain all the lies surrounding Prohibition.
And yes, Canada is taking a dive, Bill C-15. The bill actually targets cannabis as the more dangerous “drug” too.
Nice holiday card MPP, I’m going to frame it.
I wish people would stop asking Obama to straight out legalize at town halls and move to the next step.
Mr President, can you give any specific reasons as to why you oppose legalization of cannabis?
not only pot. other sacred plants for personal use, are OK too. wow!
a free country! maybe the US will become one? oh never mind…
I guess it is time to return to my motherland.
alright go czech republic good neighbors next to my left
When cannabis was outlawed we had thousands less prisons. It was a good way to lock up mexicans and take their money, legally. Now it is us who are going to jail and having our money stolen, legally. I firmly believe every prisoner in this great country of America, who has been convicted of simple drug use or possession should walk free, NOW, with no probation or parrole. It is sad when an opressed country has more freedom then the freest country in the world. I will not dwell in the past but strive for a better future with cannabis available to all of America. keep tokin and overgrow big bro.
Keeping marijuana illegal creates a strong divide, not unlike the abortion debate. If we are all distracted with things that do not realy matter we will pay no attention to the things that do.
Have our financial institutions been regulated in any way as to stop them from taking advantage of the people desprate eneugh to fall prey to questionable lending practices?
The end of prohibition is important to me, as well as a womans right to chose. Let’s call it what it is a cheap but efective magician’s trick.
Every time a country goes and does something like the above it constitutes a “national experiment”. Everybody in Czechland is watching to see how it will work out. Time for phase 2: show users are moderate, rational, considerate of health issues, etc. Rather than smoke hot burning overdose joints which destroy a high percentage of THC and inflict maximum heat shock and carbon monoxide, users should be seen demonstrating long-stemmed 25-mg. serving-size one-hitters, e-cigarette with THC-formula in the cartridge if available, and vaporizers (or, for you Youropians, vapourisers).
“Responsible” American handworkers and companies who create dosage-regulation utensils should take note that a semilegitimate market is emerging in central Europe, and be ready to start marketing. Listen to all ten Janacek operas* with bilingual libretto to get a sense of speech rhythms, prior to working out brand names to use pushing the one-hitters etc. You can also make a clay-headed pipelet with flexible double drawtube and name it the Golem.
