Speaking of Drugs More Dangerous Than Marijuana…

An FDA panel just recommended reducing the maximum dose of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol. Taken by millions of Americans every day as either a stand-alone medication or as an ingredient in various over-the-counter cold remedies, acetaminophen is the leading cause of liver failure in the U.S., resulting in hundreds of deaths by overdose every year.
And they say marijuana is too dangerous to be medicine?

Acetaminophen is one of the two ingredients in common painkillers such as Lortab. It’s ironic that someone who has taken too many of these pills is put in more danger from the over the counter Tylenol than the narcotic opiates in the same pill.
But point taken, when I go to the dentist, I use the safe and effective herb cannabis to help me easily cope with any pain. If I am given a prescription for the far more dangerous Lortab, I do not get it filled.
FDA panel just recommended that and it is proving what we know yet the FDA panel would let prohibition of marijuana continue when it is safer than any thing over the counter. Why doesn’t the FDA panel do research for their self on marijuana and do away with this stupid prohibition on it instead of doing nothing at all but closing their eyes to the topic? Is the FDA panel scared to find out that we were right all along or want to continue to allow Americans to be arrested and serve jail time for simple possession of marijuana while helping the cartel grow stronger ? After all the prohibition of marijuana is only doing bad versus legalizing and taxing it which can help our nation. Why live in ignorance and be afraid of something that is not man made and has never killed any one yet let tobacco and alcohol that kills people daily be legal? We need to change this through ending marijuana prohibition today and take back our country from the cartel as well as free all Americans who want to use their right to smoke or eat marijuana. It is a violation to our rights as Americans being what ever we decide to do doesn’t harm others and keeping marijuana in prohibition is doing just that Hurting others. We need to keep on fighting till this endless stupid war is over . The time to legalize and tax marijuana is now……. So let us make a difference not just for our generation but of that of the next as well as others to come…. We need to fight and fight hard for our rights where we are all free and so will future generations to come…. Lets keep it up till they do the right thing by legalizing and taxing marijuana instead of keeping it in prohibition that simply does not work nor never will work and help our nation grow stronger…. The time for legalization and taxation of marijuana is now….
Bruce,
You’re doing super; keep it up.
And on a totally unrelated note, I really like the usage of the word cannabis to ‘re-brand’ the term marijuana when speaking of abolition.
It makes it sound more scientific (greek even) and reduces the stigma related to other words to describe the plant. The word Marijuana comes from Latin America, chiefly our fine Mexican neighbors; it was used to attach a racist connotation to the plant back in the thirties when prohibition arose. And then the word reefer, which is what the jazz musicians called it. But they were simply using the word “Griffa”, which is what I had to use when procuring the stuff in Spain. I like the rebranding a lot.
I’ve come to two conclusions ,one or both have to be right.
Our leaders are evil…or…our leaders are insane. Only people who are evil or insane, maybe both would continue to do the things they are doing in the face of truth.
I couldn’t believe the hypocracy when I read this article…
Just another LEGAL drug that kills more people than Marijuana!!!
Blog readers can feel something of a sixth sense about marijuana. It’s when nothing makes sense with known factors & reasoning that the spiritual gifts take over and says to everyone with a spiritual eye and ear, “The govornment is hiding the truth about marijuana.”
Rick, there are many truths the government is hiding from the everday people. We are no more or no less cattle to be used as it is in any third world or communist country. Its just done alittle different here.
@ tom
Speaking of re-branding terms, I’m also starting to like “regulation” in place of “legalization”. Regulation has more meaning to someone you’re trying to convince that cannabis should be legalized. When you ask anyone if they think it should be regulated and controlled, just as other drugs are, it makes more sense to most people that way.

You just described the perfect hell, “it’s just done a little different here,” couldn’t be more correct statement.
There is no pharmaceutical product as safe as cannabis.
There are numerous cases of people dying from over-the-counter medication, yet it is being sold as free as candy to children.
Please support HR2835 to protect medical patients from Federal Prosecution.
We know it’s a sad situation when we have to protect ourselves from our own government, but that’s the reality of those who are presently suffering and in need. Thank you for your support.

These right now are our most important menbers of Congress. These are the folks that are going to decide if this bill will ever make it out of committee and to a full house vote. Keep in mind that this bill will be referred to other committees down the road, but for now we need to get as many of these member on board as possible. AS activists we need to take an active role in communicating with our Congress men and women…. write letters and make phone calls to let them know they should support this bill. The more of these members that we can get to Co-sponser this bill, the better chance we will see this bill make it to a vote.
There are 20 Co-Sponsers so far:
Rep Baldwin, Tammy [WI-2] – 6/11/2009
Rep Blumenauer, Earl [OR-3] – 6/11/2009

Maybe the Staff at MPP can advise us to the best tactics, but I would refer to the other members from their state that have already supported the bill. This is especially important for those members that come from Medical Marijuana States now. All of those Congress men and women should support this bill and should sign up as co-sponsers to not only support the rights of the sick, but also in support for their State’s Rights.
Let’s also make sure that all of the responses we receive are passed along to MPP so they can track and follow up with these people as well!
what help is there for the people that have no insurance and in pain? they just sit aside a drink up the nyquil to ease there pain and a little to there mind. when you have marijuana that helps the mind and pain…oh oh oh and keeps the liver healthy too.
i just can’t help but see “little” aslingers and duponts and j.walters ‘act’ and lie and get away with so much!! i’m so glad to see and come here where logic is used and appreciated!
Hmmp what about kids resorting to taking cough medicine to get high and then dieing of overdose?
Tammy Baldwin, thank you! You make me proud as a native Wisconsinite.
@ David #14
Make sure you take the time to write Tammy a letter thanking her for her support. It’s people like her that stick their neck out there on a politically toxic issue. She needs to here from her constiuents that she is supported.
I suggest sending out a real letter instead of email, but if you decide on the emailing route, go to http://www.house.gov/ and send your emial through the main government site. Some Congressmen will not open emails from 3rd party websites in fear of viruses so they will not get your message.

Now that’s the kind of information I can act on now. Thanks for the list of names and nameing the Bill. You even gave us insight as to what to expect in the near future. It doesn’t get better than that for information folks!
Just one little observation and I’ll sign off. Have you noticed that the government standards of strength for medicines is being mandatorially lowered?
Is this coming about as a result of Marijuana being reported as a non-leathal drug compared to many deaths caused by legal drugs on the market? There will be deaths reported but less in the future, that’s the best they can do with the legal drug market I guess.
…drug policy the Dutch are ahead of us on. You can’t buy acetaminophen anywhere in The Netherlands.
At least the moralists are keeping our souls safe from ourselves…
“HEMP REFORM”
That’s the term we need to be using
The whole plant needs reformed
I do not respect any law that goes against God’s Will
God put hemp on this earth for a reason
This world would be healthier and happier if hemp were to be reformed
It’s a fact that virtually EVERYTHING people do is more dangerous than smoking cannabis. Everything from walking on the street to shoveling snow, playing tennis, playing baseball, riding bikes, driving cars, swimming, boating, sun bathing, using tools, climbing trees, eating lunch, using aspirin (or acetaminophen), playing golf, etc., ALL yield more death, injuries or disease, annually, than smoking hemp. Smoking pot of course causes intoxication, but even so, the nature of that stone is also relatively benign. Stoned people are famously mellow! And observers have been unable to tie pot smoking to either serious disease OR traffic accidents. Marijuana should provoke the LEAST concern of all normal, daily activities…. it is certainly not a cause for prohibition. And there is certainly no justification for the violent, destructive, witch hunt that is the War on Drugs…
What I said above in 21, about the fact that cannabis use is one of the safest things anyone could do? I would challenge every person who opposes MJ legalization to disprove any of it. There is very little evidence that pot causes any harm whatsoever, and none that it does serious harm to anybody. Come on you cowards! Come out and show us some proof! We know you won’t, because you can’t.
#22 Wait there is one harm MJ does and that is by keeping marijuana illegal and in prohibition but hey do not take my word for it just take a look at the victim Theresa Anthony. She is but one of many victims of prohibition and I will bet there are many others who not only go to jail but lose their jobs, houses , cars and other things as such of loss of children due to being taken away from their pairents for simple possession of Marijuana and all this problems to name but a few just from prohibition of Marijuana that is 6 times less dangerous than tobacco and alcohol that is legal. It makes me and I believe it makes all on our cause sick to see such a thing happen through prohibition. We need to keep fighting to get marijuana legalize and end this stupid prohibition that ruins more people than it saves as well as wasts us US taxpayers billions … I simply say lets do all in our power to fight this in just where we and future generations may have their rights restored and truely be free from prohibition of marijuana….
Check this out it is from the FDA’s sight in marijuana and may be used as a helpful information on our fight.

These days will be thought of as a dark ages of sorts , with the United States as the Major Evil creator of Prohibition , with most all of Europe following suit. Germany and Israel , with Holland and Spain with the big winner being Portugal as the Purveyors of True Freedom inspiring Freedom loving People to peacefully revolt and overgrow the government . This may be happening in America because we think that we are better than the rest of the world. More Moral, My way or the Highway!!! Cowboy Diplomacy and all. It will be saddening when I get to Heaven and they all exclaim, “He’s an American, but do not be afraid , he resisted the evils of his country, His Heart is Pure”!!!
Yes I will be famous, and so will you!!!! Do not give up!!!! We Win in the END !!!!
Oh boy I see cover up all over the FDA lowering this due to overdose but what is ironic is notice this started happening when we brought to light that EVERY pill is more dangerous than marijuana …… If they were going to do what they are doing now I ask why are they doing it now in stead of years a go? I believe that the reason is that they know we proved something to the FDA and others that is fact and that the only way for them to have a battle field is to do what they are doing but does this change the main fact that even if they do this that it would change anything on our facts that EVERY pill perscribed as well as over the counter is more dangerous than marijuana?…… NO… Read their whole story here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20090630/hl_hsn/fdaadvisersurgesmallerdosesofacetaminophen
And see just how they are (so I believe ) going to cover it up with out mentioning the fact that marijuana is more safer than any pill.
Michael Jackson’s death also could have been prevented . How lets look at facts shall we he died from a PILL not marijuana . Yet marijuana is more dangerous ….. yea right…. If he smoked a Joint for fatique instead of taking a Perscribed pill for his problem would he have been dead? NO….. And why is this that he did not? Because of the fact marijuana is illegal and in prohibition But I am willing to bet that if marijuana was not illegal and he knew that it can help with that problem he would have eaten or smoked marijuana hence in the out come would not have died from eating or smoking marijuana….. Does any one agree? …. Man oh man the news is just making our point even more that EVERY pill is more dangerous than marijuana yet do the news puts that out to the public ? NO…. Yet we made it well known that marijuana is far more safer than any man made pill and substance as well as safer than alcohol and tobacco yet even after the fact that we told them this marijuana is still kept in prohibition and is illegal…… Makes any sence? I believe we need to take it up a notch by continuing to fight for legalization of marijuana and end prohibition once and for all and until that has been accomplished our work is far from over. Lets keep up the fight for our rights as well as our freedom ….. Lets fight hard and till we can no longer fight and show the prohibitionists and the govt. We are strong…..That we are intiteld to our rights as free Americans as written in the constitution for is it not suppose to be “WE THE PEOPLE” according to the constitution?
jeremy r.
actually jackson may have died from a drug called diprivan. this doesn’t come in a pill but only intravenous. it is a drug used strictly for surgery the effects of this drug if taken without very skilled people their is sure death. very strange stuff, but it is jackson. i do agree with you though that their are a variety of conditions that would benifit enormously with cannabis more so than the traditional medicine. There are also a large number of people that would do better to abuse cannabis than the substance they currently abuse namely alcohol. very sad stuff. our goverment obviously isn’t doing the right thing protecting the public on this issue. i believe the money from lobbying has gone to their collective heads. keep fighting every one convince people, talk about cannabis when ever possible but do it in a specific way that is factually based. argue every sterotype they put up as false. i love the term cannabis regulation. it sounds so possible!
Bruce, I know of somthing important that MPP should take some time to research for the sake of future arguement. Teenagers taking cough medicine and over the counter drugs to get high. Some end up dieing from overdose on codine and simular ingridiants.
#29 my bad was thinking about the FDA thing as well as jacksons thing how ever the main point of what I posted is simply “we made it well known that marijuana is far more safer than any man made pill and substance .” Sorry for the confusion on that…..
Maybe the world will open their eyes and see anything that man creates isnt perfect, nor will it ever be. StO0O0ps.
The US Congress, DEA, FDA, Pharma complex has been covering up a report which spelled out how damaging NSAID’s are since 1999. This is because the DEA wants to convince people that atrocious drugs like acetaminophen are good pain killers. They are not pain killers at all. They’re just killers. But, the lawyers for the NSAID manufacturers have hammered down anyone who would dare speak out about the dangers of these poisons. We are going to see class action law suits against NSAID’s that make all lawsuits before them look like mole hills. The fact is cannabis is the safest pain reducer known to man. The other true pain reliever that the DEA is trying to suppress is morphine in all it’s forms. The repudiation of NSAID’s opens the door for cannabis to be embraced as the only logical replacement. Cannabis reduces the amount of opiates needed to suppress pain, too. Good bye to NSAID’s & good riddance. Now, we need to reform the DEA, FDA, ONDCP, U.N., NDIC complex. The U.S. Govt is guilty of knowingly killing & injuring a massive amount of people by pushing NSAIDS. How do we find out who is specifically responsible for this crime & get them brought before the courts?

FDA to Require Chantix, Zyban to Carry ‘Strongest’ Suicide, Depression Warning
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,529738,00.html?test=latestnews
I just don’t get what’s going on at the FDA. Here’s too more drugs they have approved for use in the US that they have to go back to for further warnings. What’s worse is when you understand the history of these two drugs.
Varenicline (Chantix) received a “priority review” by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in February 2006, shortening the usual 10-month review period to 6 months because of its demonstrated effectiveness in clinical trials and perceived lack of safety issues.
——– “perceived lack of safety issues”???? Seems to me that causing thoughts of suicide would be a safety concern! Maybe that last 4 months of trials would have uncovered this scenario back in 2006.
Bupropion (Zyban) is an atypical antidepressant. Initially researched and marketed as an antidepressant, bupropion was subsequently found to be effective as a smoking cessation aid. In 2007 it was the fourth-most prescribed antidepressant in the United States retail market, with 20.184 million retail prescriptions.
——- This one confuses me even more. This was originally researched and marketed to treat people with depression. But today the FDA wants to add a warning that this could cause depression??? So since 1985 the FDA has allowed the use of this drug by people with depression and it may cause thoughts of suicide. Doesn’t quite sound like the drug I would want to have prescribe to treat my depression!
The FDA’s is responsible for ensuring that human and veterinary drugs and medical devices are safe and effective. Sounds to me as though the FDA will put the man-made drugs coming from the Pharmaceutical Industry on the fast-track to approval. But when it comes to the natural alternative that has no chance of death from overdose they will not allow clinical trials to begin. No profit to be made by the Phamaceutical Industry means no getting through FDA approval.
I bet that if the Phamaceutical Industry was to help legalize marijuana if they got some of the profit from the sale of it would see that they can make a hell of a lot but instead of being the good guy they choose to be the bad guy who is the only legal street dealer which push more dangerous meds to Americans not to help those who need the meds but for one simple reason and that is to get rich off of others suffering.
i am so tiered of this garbage- its no big deal to swollow a handfull of acetametifin yet just mentioning the word “marijuana” brings outright hystaria this crap has to stop!!!
LEGALIZE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I see that Big Pharma and the Alcohol lobbie are the biggest purveyors of death to Americans….More than all the Terrorists combined. WoW I guess that the saying Sold Your Soul to The Devil is what is going on. It’s the Love of Money that has corrupted these empty headed idiots who say that Money and all it can buy is worth more than their very Forever and Forever. And because they are Hellbent , they will stop at nothing , Lying , Stealing , Killing , anyone or anything that gets in their way , including The Truth , Freedom , and The American Way !!! We need to ask God to Protect us from Vermin like these Entities are!!!
the cat is officially out of the bag, botanical cannabis for medical use, or any use, never killed anyone. Now what FDA?
thanks for the info #11
It’s absolutely mind boggling that these drugs are still on the market, they are the cause of more than 60% of acute liver failure. And cancer, HIV, MS, etc. patients have to fight just for the right to use medical cannabis. I guess if you cant put a stamp on it and profit from it then its no good for this gov. They’d rather have their own citizens suffer.
Hey darth noble, check out effexor. I was on that crap at one time. Its just as bad as the other drugs you posted on. I had to stop using it. The side effects were aweful. The suicidal thoughts aside ,at one point I couldn’t stop shaking my leg unless I sat and concentrated solely on not shaking my leg. There were many other side effects also I wont mention here. When I weened my self off the crap I felt terrible, I felt as though I had electric shocks going through my body for weeks. Who knows what long term effects that crap has.
I know cannabis will help with depression but, We cant use it legally. FDA and our leaders tell us cannabis Is bad for you lol. Oh but here take this man made drug that my cause you to kill yourself! Absolutely unbelieveable! What a crock of Sh*t.
The members of FDA are just as corrupt and superstitious as the prohibitionist.
The prohibionist believes pot is a sinful drug because it makes you happy and high without killing you. The FDA believes pot makes you happy and high, but the 2500 years of data isn’t enough. They need more research which are usually blocked by the DEA.
I still dont understand why 30million americans who use cannabis and the 13 states that allow the medicinal use is not enough proof, nobody died, I dont know how much more evidence they need to prove Cannabis is safe for responisible use by adults. this is truely a rediculous and sad state of affairs.
Lying to the public is not a responsible way to run a democracy.
When will the vast majority wake up and demand this changes. Its been over 70 years!!!!
can you imagine how future generations will look back on this, they will probably say i can’t beleive this plant was ever illegal. they will say people actually served time in jail just for having a peice of this plant, now we use it for everything, it even helped our country become stronger buy creating jobs and helping us get off of foreign petroleum products, and produce biodegradable plastic products…
people will be confused about what the going green meant lol
The FDA doesn’t give a rat’s ass about keeping unsafe medications away from people. Their main concern is money–just like most businesses in this country. Read:
http://www.rd.com/your-america-inspiring-people-and-stories/fda-approves-harmful-antibiotic/article55526.html
on a side note, the place I work has changed their drug policy *LMAO* to state that an employee may be subject to drug testing if:
there’s an injury that requires medical attention; there is property damage (even if the property is YOURS, not theirs) on the clock; or if there is a “Near Miss” for either. Is that even legal? Let’s say I’m walking along and I trip, almost fall, but I catch myself and keep on walking. Security can then approach me and say: “Hey, good catch! You almost ate shit there. Be a pal and piss in this cup m’kay?” All the employees were required to sign this, and told that refusal to sign might result in being sent home from work until it is signed. Jerks!

That article ia appauling!!! Another example of a Major Pharmaceutical company getting their product through FDA approval without a real investigation of the chemical.
“Dr. Ross knew something that Dr. Hanson didn’t. “The company submitted fabricated data, the FDA knew it, and they approved the drug anyway,” Dr. Ross says. Many of the patients in Ketek’s clinical trial, in fact, didn’t exist — a point an FDA higher-up had ordered him not to tell the agency panel that was considering whether to approve the drug.”
Our government would rather us take these chemicals that will damage the liver, but they won’t let us vaporize a little marijuana that doesn’t damage anything? They will give depressed patients medication that may cause them to have thoughts of suicide (that sounds like a smart idea), but Marijuana is so dangerous that it has to be banned when it’s not toxic enough to ever cause death?
FDA = Fucking Dumb Asses
FDA = Fabricating Drug Analysis
drug testing really bothers me, its a infringment on our rights to our own bodies. Isn’t there anything to protect people from having to give up rights to themselves just to have a job. just because they can prove you consumed marijuana within the last couple weeks doesn’t mean it was irresponsible use or endangered anyone or the employer in anway, but you can get drunk every night and come to work hung over and thats totally fine. seems to me that businesses should want people to consume marijuana instead of alcohol or cigarettes to cut health care costs for everyone.

Have A GREAT DAY!
the government does not care about making you live longer,or care about the way that its folks feel about any thing that will not make them money . this product kept the money flowing in for them and this health care system …they knew the risk and we played the ginney-pig ..they would rather sell you beer, wine, ect… so you will not complain on your trip to the other-side of the grass. then let you smoke the god given medicine we all ready have . its not right and i say fuck em . i smoke like it is legal now ,and they will only miss out on that money, the greedy pigs…
WE NEED MORE OF THIS SHOW WEEDS ON I BELIEVE SHOWTIME …THAT NANCY BOTWIN WILL BE SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE MEDICINE SHE GAVE HER KID FOR THAT HEAD ACHE IS KILLING HIM . I BET SHE WILL ROLL HIM A JOINT AND SEND HIM BACK TO BED… VERY GOOD SHOW EVERYONE SHOULD SEE ABOUT WERE WE REALEY ARE IN THE FIGHT TO FREE OUR MEDICINE.. MARY LOUISE PARKER HAS SET AMERICA RIGHT TO THE DOOR STEPS WITH THIS ONE…. SHE WAS ON THE COVER OF WEB MD. THIS MONTH . WE ARE MAKING HEAD WAY JUST NOT FAST ENOUGH. KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT BRUCE MIRKEN!!! AND WATCH YOUR WEEDS MAN!!! IM WAITING FOR THAT 5 TH SEASON.
Now I know our leaders have lost thier minds. I just heard they are talking bout forcing americans to buy health insurance or they have to pay 1000$ or more in fines! How the hell is a person gonna pay the freakin fines if they cant pay for health insurance in the first place. Whats next? Jail if you dont pay the fine. We are in serious danger here people. This little hell they are creating is for us not them. Damned if we do damned if we dont.
@ David,
Great idea. Talking points.
I support sensible regulation of cannabis
From Testimony to Congress April 2004…. Department of Heath and Human Services:
“Marijuana is not a benign drug. It is illegal and has significant adverse health and social consequences associated with its use. Given the fairly recent discovery of the endogenous cannabinoid system and the tremendous science advances that followed, the development of useful cannabinoid-based medicines is an important area of investigation that should prove fruitful for a variety of health conditions. However, the use of smoked marijuana as a medicine is problematic due to its adverse health consequences and the inherent difficulties with respect to accurate dosing and the purity of the formulation. Approval for the use of marijuana, or perhaps more importantly purified compounds based upon the chemicals found in marijuana, as therapeutic agents must show substantial evidence of effectiveness and show the product is safe under the conditions of use in the proposed labeling. Safe, in this context, means that the benefits of the drug appear to outweigh its risks. ”
Furthermore the Department of HHS says this about smoked marijuana:
“The reports [the 1999 IOM report - "Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base"] noted that there is greater promise in purifying the active constituents of marijuana and developing alternate delivery systems, such as inhalers, rather than studying smoked marijuana.”
So my question is why aren’t they studying VAPORIZED Marijuana?????
“purifying the active constituents of marijuana ” —- isn’t this exactly what a vaporizer does???
[...] MPP, we learn that on last Tuesday that a Food and Drug Administration panel voted on the fate of [...]
They cannot study vaporized or any type of marijuana use. It would mean the loss of billions of dollers in revanue. They can not make a dime if we all grew our own meds. That is all it is about. MONEY.
