Obama Signs D.C. Medical Marijuana Fix Into Law
The president signed the omnibus spending bill into law yesterday, lifting the ban on medical marijuana in Washington, D.C. It is now 100% official, and the nation’s capital can begin to implement the original medical marijuana initiative from 1998.

HECK YEAH!!!
I know we have a long way to go but each step counts. Thanks to everyone for staying focused.
Since Washington D.C. is not a state, how will this work?
It is a very big victory, because it is the place where prohibition got started. The Prohibitionist Party (which was founded in 1869) may have to find allies someplace else.
This is great news indeed.
Well MR. PRESIDENT why don’t you sign a national law into act allowing all americans this valuable medicine? I would give my right nut if i could smoke weed to ease my pain!
Mr. President, that is a step in the right direction but can you now help the rest of this great nation? Do you know that another american was killed by the police in Florida just three days ago, for less than $50 worth of cannabis? Why does anyone have to die because of a harmless plant? I say harmless, and if I am wrong, please show me some scientific facts that say otherwise.
well he’s not completly all bad but a long way to go to get the b+ he thinks he deserved.
Is this for real? Someone please pinch me! Hands down, the most positive step towards re-legalization of cannabis in this country.
Dominoes
GREAT JOB MPP!!!!!!!way to BRING IT !!!!!
BEN:
I know there are now 13 States with effective MMJ laws on the books, but some of your literature says that there are 31 States that have recognized the medicinal value in marijuana. Why is there not more of a concerted effort to publicize this interesting tidbit?
More than HALF (62%) of the States recognize medicinal value in marijuana.
2008 Statistics:
304,059,724 US Population
31 States that Recognize Medicinal Value in Marijuana = 213,069,061 – 70.07% of the US population
19 States that do not recognize medicinal value = 90,990663 – 29.93% of the US population
So if 62% of the States, accounting for 70% of the US population, recognize medicinal value in marijuana then why again are we still fighting for the CSA to be changed?
Schedule I. –
(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
I read the other day here,in a NY newspaper. That a person was ticketed for . . . “Unlicenced possesion of marijuana”. . . What the hell does that mean? And if all I have to do to be a free man in NY is get a licence for cannabis, where and how do I get to be a “Licenesed marijuana possesor and why hasn’t this info been made public knowledge?
Please someone give me an insight or answer of some sort.
#12. Why hasn’t this info been made public? Duhhhh! They don’t want you to use it. Just because it might get made legal for mmj, that don’t mean their gonna go out of there way to make sure everyone uses it. Use logic man. Think BIG pharma. Wake up and do something off the wall to help it ( gain acceptance), as for me I have purchased some of the HEMP BUD OIL that RICK SIMPSON has used, and I am giving it to people with basil skin cell carcinoma, for free to see how and if it really works. Don’t wait for the change to come along, force it, push it, prod it into existence. PEACE OUT.
“Oh Mr, President, no matter what you do we will want you to do more before we are satisfied! Why can’t you just sign into national law a bill legalizing marijuana for everyone, despite the fact that you don’t have that power? Another person was arrested today, why don’t YOU personally stop it all? Can’t you see that the pot lobby is mostly ungrateful for everything you have done for us so far?”
Wow, glad to see Obama actually…oh, what was it…Making Change! That’s Right!
There’s been a lot of Cannabis and Psychedelic-related progress lately, in regards to the social misconceptions and laws regarding them. I hope that we continue on this track, and that full legalization on personal freedom – Drugs, Prostitution, Sexuality, etc – become a reality soon.
Then again, everyone thought that pot legalization was ‘right around the corner’ back in the 60′s…
Christ Almighty:
Look up “estheticians” in your area… they deal with skin care and will know people that have skin cancer for your work… please document… you can find them in the dermatology field and with plastic surgeons (who tend to have the older wome that have spent years baking under the sun and tanning lights)… that’s my wife’s field and she has found basal cells quite often. We are in VA and no access to hemp oil or I would do that myself.
Christ Almighty (the other one),
Please do keep some records to show us here. I am very interested as I would like to try the same for my father.
13 That is exactly what this movement needs. Someone not in it for money. If your plan works, then you have just recruted for our side. You may be arrested for impersonating a doctor, but isn’t that exactly what polititions do when they tell us cannabis does not and cannot help any of us. I use it for pain and I cannot wait till Mn. gets our law changed.
hehe #18 i hope soo too, i live in MN Rochester. I have a hernia now, nd acid reflex disease, and really bad anxiety… marijuana helps with all my diseases, makes my anxiety go away i can eat food now with out puking cause of my hernia. i can eat reg food now with out goin on a diet and not going hungry for days. So i hope MN does the right thing, and i hope i can get meds that work.
I am located in Thomasville Ga. and if the police even catches you with a marijuana seed you get arrested for possesion. What a joke! The only reason the law enforcement does not want it legalized is because they get paid when they make a bust. There is a lot of needy people here in Georgia that could get a lot of use out of medical marijuana. Please take this into consideration.
My back is killing me today and I could use a nice fat marijuana joint! This would ease the paid and it would help me relax more today.
I would like a link on what senators voted how, so I know how to address my senators when I write them about this.
I have found the vote was 57-35 in favor but I would like the specific list. Anyone? Ben?
Thank You.
Its about time. One step closer to getting it legalized for medical use, and the possibility of actually selling it having the profits go to drug rehab/hospitals. I live in Alaska, and its legal to posses a small amount, and grow a small amount for personal use. Of course if you are in a huge grow operation, your still gonna have to be careful. Cops have come out and pretty much said they are no longer going to be pursuing people unless its a massive operation. Yet another reason living in Alaska is one BADASS State….the weather may suck sometimes but you can live your life as you choose…….have as much or as little socializing as u wish. Talk about paradise!
Sooo what’s next? When does this law go into effect? When can doctors start recommending cannabis? When can we expect to see dispensaries in DC?
That is awesome… I have used this just about all my life, and my wife has been diagnosed with depressions…this really helps her out, and it helps with the pain…80 percent of americans already smoke…and the 20 percent that doesn’t don’t do it just because they are scared of the consequences…The police will arrest somebody for a little bud, or even a seed…That is ridiculous.. Alcohol should be made illegal before a harmless plant…Alcohol kills… weed relaxes, helps with eating disorders, helps with pain, helps cancer patients, and brings about peace!! PEACE OUT!! and Light one UP!!
Thanks for bringing up that police shooting, Clarence #6. Here’s another victim of the drug war, a small-town pastor shot dead by plainclothes police. He apparently tried to drive away when armed men approached his car (the undercover agents), and they killed him based on a claim they thought he would try to run them down.
They apparently wanted to talk to him about a female passenger and suspected cocaine user he had just dropped off at a convenience store. Rather than having a uniformed officer make the approach, the undercover guys stormed him, and when he tried to drive away they killed him.
Here’s a link; google will turn up lots of additional details.

This is one thing I don’t Understand. We have People in Jail for possession with Tax paying dollars. It should be the other way around they should just be keeping them out and making money from taxing cannabis?
Wow, a hernia and acid reflux, That should be the decision maker for the president right there. LMFAO, are you joking??
This would be a great site if people bloged on topic instead of always giving there medical history.
lol #28 u know i was joking right lawl. I like how you posted your comment.
I believe what everyone fails to realize is; This means that medical marijuana is legal everywhere the federal says it has jurisdiction, i.e. ten miles square around D.C. and all possessions or territories. The federal government recognizes all places with zip codes as federal terrortories(lol) they also recognize anyone with a social security number as a possession, so you are good as long as you can get a doctor to sign off on a recomendation. so go to a legal state and get a doctor to sign off and you are good to go, they are gonna hate the court cases coming from this and I guarantee anyone can win.
I live in Maryland, which is very close to DC and the DC line is 1 mile from where i live. How will this affect residents in MD.. I know in MD its already legal but to an extent..
Just found out that I am not ALLOWED to use my MMJ while on probation. It seems that one of the 1st JUDICIAL District Judges has taken it upon themselves t Decree that people on probation are not ALLOWED to use their MMJ while on probation. They stated that it would CAUSE a PROBLEM for the PROBATION OFFICER,and having not stated said problem COULD COME FROM 1(ONE) LESS PIECE OF PAPER? How can filing ONE LESS PIECE of PAPER cause SO BIG A PROBLEM? You would think that they would APPRECIATE the filing of 1 less piece of paper.(IN A PAPERLESS SOCIETY)??????????? Someone tell me that I have not lost all reasonable thinking because it would cause a problemt file 1 less piece of paper.Help me to SEE the logic in denying SOMEONE a drug that keeps them of off NARCOTICS.
Obama is causing a lot of problems and going back on a lot of his earlier promises of not interfering with medical marijuana.
The DOJ in California are all over the Medical Marijuana Dispensaries, and shutting them down one by one.
