New Jersey MS Patient Will Remain Jailed During Appeal

The New Jersey man who was sentenced to five years in prison last month for growing marijuana plants to treat his multiple sclerosis will now remain jailed while he appeals his conviction.

John Wilson has maintained that he grew marijuana for personal use only to treat his illness. Throughout most of his trial, a judge prevented Wilson from mentioning his condition, even after New Jersey became the 14th state in the nation to pass a medical marijuana law. On Friday, that same judge—State Superior Court Judge Robert Reed—ruled that Wilson cannot go free on bail until his appeal is decided.

Two state senators are asking New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to pardon Wilson, calling the decision to bring charges against the 37-year-old “cruel, unusual and unnecessary.”

Inhumane sick sick disturbed and twisted people.. How can you jail someone who has a disease like this when it is known that Cannabis helps these people with conditions like MS? I cannot wait till the day when victory is at hand for this movement and all the prohibitionist can do naught but shed a tear for their terrible draconian policies and mindset will go down the drain with their sick and evil twisted souls.

Sad day. New Jersey needs to stand up and sound off about this judge. Please get his information and please let your representatives know of your disapproval of his immoral actions.

New Jersey has legalized medical cannabis use. I think. Why is this man even in jail? It should not matter that he was arrested before the law passed. I hope the victom sues for the cops violating his constitutional rights. I have a thought. Obamas health care bullshit dictates that this man die because he wants his civil rights. That is what is seems and I am sure it is cheaper to let someone die because he does not want to be addicted to Rx’s anymore. Yea, that sounds like an idiot was typing but how to the close to the truth is it?

This will be written in history books on how cruel and backward minded the prohibitionist has become.

What’s even sicker is that this man might actually end up having to do the entire 7 year sentence.
How are we better than fascists? jailing people with serious illnesses who do nothing wrong other than seek some relief from an all natural remedy.
The government has betrayed it’s people.

Free The Weed. Free The People.

I live here in NJ and yes while New Jersey has passed a law legalizing Medical Cannabis it does not go into effect until sometime in July. Also the new law is the only one in the country that does not let you grow you own. So he still commited the “crime” by growing the plants in his yard. The new law does not save him unfortunetly.

That judge is a really something. He’s either sleeping with a pharmaceutical CEO or the founder of D.A.R.E. Either way, he should be commended for spending taxpayer money uselessly. Bravo

This disgusts me. That is the only way to describe how I feel. I have finally decided to start a NORML chapter at my school hoping to add Indiana as the 15th state to legalize the medicinal use of marijuana. The government is nothing but a school yard bully picking on the weak. This is one more valid reason why the time for change is now. We all need to act and legitimately push for change. I’m new to the whole activism scene but a situation like this reassures me that I’m fighting for a good cause.

@ comment #15 – Welcome to the fight :) A good cause it is indeed. This is a terrible story, this is something that has to end. We as a society should be moving onto to a more humane society much more swiftly. The only way that could happen is if we were a TOTAL DEMOCRACY….think about it. We have the technology to accomplish such a thing.

It is evident that marijuana lends aid to several diseases that sweep our generation. Not only that, but to imprison someone for a crime usually directed towards teenagers and beat-necks is ridiculous. If it was distribution, thats another story, but the fact that the man was clearly supporting his on habit; and not contributing money to illegal sources brings this matter to a more reasonable level. I feel as though the man was robbed of his own rights, since he did nothiing to revoke them. Justice will hopefully be seen through the fog.

This is the part of health care Obama shut his mind to. As long as evil shits like this judge are allowed to hand out pain and suffering disguised as justice, Obama is just another George Bush piece of garbage.

as a person suffering from ms for over 10 yrs, i am so discouraged that im allowed to be prescribed multiple addictive perscriptions every month, yet if cannabis shows up in my monthly drug screen, im automatically discharged by my doctor. it would be so much simpler if TN would legalize med. cannabis and maybe the state wouldnt have such a problem with people abusing perscription drugs.

they jailed him because all they care about is their f****ng tax and sending messages, while their cronies start illegal wars killing millions of people, and stealing $billions of our money.
