We’ve all heard the rhetoric, trotted out again and again by law enforcement and paranoid city officials, that dispensaries and other marijuana facilities cause crime wherever they are. They focus on a horror story and blame the dispensary regardless of the facts at hand. They point to media coverage of similar incidents and say that all dispensaries are blights on the community.
Now, the media and the authorities are very good at using scare tactics, but what they consistently lack are statistical data to support their claims. This is because there is no such data.
Yesterday, the Denver Post reported that neither Colorado Springs or Denver police could find any data to support a correlation between dispensaries and increases in crime. In fact, such locations were the targets of crime at rates comparable to any other business. Criminal acts in the surrounding areas did not rise when the stores opened.
This is surely disappointing to many prohibitionists, most notably Kevin Sabet, a special advisor to the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Over the summer, Sabet was so desperate to prove the negative effects of dispensaries that he started an intensive search for anything that could provide statistical support for the wild claims of law enforcement.
Looks like he came up short.

The Michigan Oakland County Sheriff Department, Sheriff Michael Bouchard, tried by using undercover officers to do all the criminal activity along with the 150 complaints. The only people that were arrested are the employees and the co-owner.

Im sorry I know this is a little off topic, but really, Im gettting a little vexed about how all these sites are all about pro-legalization, get people all fired up, and demand a donation….??….really? If America’s cash crop happens to be marijuana, im sure a lot of people realize what it is and know the legal situation, why should something I respect and demand to be made legal in a respectible sense be won by some bribery, I mean lets face it, somebody’s getting payed and then telling you to basically fuck off, better luck next year…save your money for the stitches you’ll recieve later to the face by dirty cops looking to make a quick buck, becuz as far as Im concerned, and as much as I would love to see it, weed will never become legalized, too many of the pig fucks who keep it illegal are making too much profit by criminalizing it and keeping it in a dark light. Yes money corrupts but MPP and other organizations of a similar nature are using the money to advertise for our cause IE commercials Billboards etc. You won’t have MJ legalization unless you educate the common folk with the facts through commercials, billboards and other means. This was the first video I looked at. Not that hard to see that Obama PROMISED at minimum MJ reform. GREAT PROMISE! Now we have record numbers of arrests. Please be on your best behavior around dispensaries! I think it’s great news to have the Denver area police note that crime has not increased. This is exactly who we want to have on our side. For those who complain that Obama isn’t coming through; if you voted for him you have yourselves to blame for being morons.
