Israel to Have 1,200 Medical Marijuana Patients by September

bedrocan-209

Here in the U.S., medical marijuana is still routinely branded as some sort of sinister “drug legalizer” conspiracy. In Israel, according to a fascinating article in the newspaper Haaretz, the leading conspirator appears to be the Ministry of Health.

Officials have authorized over 700 patients to use marijuana for medical purposes, and expect the number to rise to 1,200 within three months. Authorities are in the process of authorizing five or six producers to handle the needs of this growing patient population. Dr. Yehuda Baruch, who oversees the program, says the average prescription is for 100 grams — a little over three ounces — per month. So much for the claims of U.S. prohibitionists that allowing patients even an ounce or two would flood their communities with marijuana.

And doctors are finding marijuana amazingly useful. Haaretz reports:

When Cannabis was approved for medicinal purposes in 1999, it was originally intended for terminal cancer and AIDS patients. Today it is being used in earlier stages of illness and for a wider array of diseases, including Parkinson’s, Tourette Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic pain and shell shock. The medical establishment is also increasingly recognizing Cannabis’ effectiveness in treating illness.

At the Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital’s Bone Marrow Transplantation department, patients including children and babies are treated using drops of oil derived from Cannabis. “It has no side effects and is largely effective in treating patients,” said department chief, Professor Reuven Or. “I would say it is effective in 80 percent of patients, which is a lot.”

Professor Or continued, “It stimulates the appetite and minimizes nausea and vomiting, which is of great importance in Oncology. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps in cases of infection or inflammation caused by radiation. Along with this, Cannabis eases the coping process for patients – it improves their morale and lowers depression, and these are important parameters for patients battling disease.”

After reading all the above comments and the main blog about Isreal, I get a feeling that people in the U.S. are wishing they had the same freedoms as other countries. These OTHER countries are now experienceing the health benefits that I’ve been waiting to witness since I became an activist in over a years ago. It’s these documented health success stories that solidify the true magnitude of using hemp or cannabis medicines. It’s exactly what’s going to save my life and millions of others when nothing else will.

The one big issue against Medicinal MJ is RELIGION in America. Many religions are blocking MJ meds., nothing against religions personally but isn’t this the sort of opponents we’d expect from the Devil?

Thanx for the link to the Deseret Newspaper’s article. I’ve observed Utah as one big mental case. I just returned from a trip to Salt Lake for a wedding and it’s general population is best described as zombies compared to my home State of Tennessee. Maybe it’s something in the air there? For the record, the Mormon religion is a very nice Church from my observation and research.

This President of Mexico knows what he is talking about when he put legislation into a bill. Its sad that Mexico can get their heads out of their ass but not Obama and everyone else. Here is the Mexican President’s comment on why he is legalizing small amounts of ALL drugs in Mexico while still dealing with the cartels that are big drug dealers.

His reasoning: It makes sense to distinguish between small-time users and big-time dealers, while re-targeting major crime-fighting resources away from the former and toward the latter and their drug lord bosses.

Viva La Mexico!!!!!!!!

one thing-that no one mentions much is that marijuana treats deppresion and improves morale i have had depression for years and it makes me happy to finaly have someone bring that fact to light-that new fedaral law that says only the terminally ill can have access dont give a rats ass about emotional illnesses that sometimes turn out the same way!!! i belive all partys involved should think about that when it comes to deppresion
when i was a kid and even now (from 14-18)I have allways truly considered my first psychiatrist to be my first drug dealer. antihistamines, blood presure meds, geodon, paxil, prozac, risperdol,ritalin, seroquel, and many many many more than i care to count most didnt work many worked at a high physical price. for instance-geodon was excellant when i was on it-but the side effects for those two weeks go as follows-body tremors, 100 pounds of weight gain, and extreme deppresion brought on by withdrawl of the 100 I only lost half since then (i am now 24)

17 steven in Iowa { 06.23.09 at 4:45 am }

the fed shouldn’t create limits like those that prevent any safe options for people like me and the fact that they have makes me sick!!!!! legalize it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a very powerful underlying reason for cannabis use as medicine and that is a huge cost savings as it replaces very expensive pharmaceuticals. This financial aspect (along with industrial hemp usage) makes cannabis a very important component of any health plan or health care reform issue and will be the major driving force for political and lawmaking reforms.

America is not the country they will have you believe. 70 years ago, a seed was planted called the Marijuana Tax Act. It later grew into a vigorous buckthorn tree called the War on Drugs.

Now in our day and age, another seed was planted in the last decade and I fear what that will grow into. The Patriot Act was created amoungst your Fears and handed rights to your privacy to our very ill minded political system.

Now we are about to have another invasive seed planted that strictly controls your right to arms. This is to ensure that our guns are no where near the streangth of our military and policing that is already ass backwards and controlled by our ill minded politicions.

So in summary, if the Government can control what you put into your body, then in essense, they have taken control of your body. If they have no limit to your privacy upon their will, then you have lost your right to privacy, and if they control your guns, then you have lost your right to hold up arms.

What the fuck is going on here!?

Seems like they are fighting a Revolution that hasnt happened yet!

P.S.- In Illinois, Rep Mark Kirk is trying to pass this law that makes everyday citizens federal criminals serving up to 25 years for ‘Kush” (these guys are idiots) that is 15% or more THC. So basically, It is an attempt as dismembering otherwise good law abiding citizens for possesing some super dank buds, and an attempt to sqwander this Marijuana revolution by making you a criminal who lost their right to vote if you by chance have some really good weed.

Mark Kirk is trying to take political spotlight making laws on something he doesnt even understand.

Approximately one year from this time, I think we all need to make a cross country trip to the White House and really support and rally our beliefs. This is utterly rediculous and the War on Americans is getting out of control.

I want my country and Freedom back. Who the hell do these mongrols in office think they are slowly eliminating our Bill of Rights and freedoms granted by the blood of our fore fathers!?

22 Bingo { 06.23.09 at 9:21 am }

I hope so much that this report ends up on CNN and in every major media outlet in America so these damn law officials can see that banning pot is so much bullshit. Evenmore, here in Georgia not far from where I live in Fayette County a comissioner is currently being held at stake by the county citizens all because he got pulled over for a speeding ticket and just so happen to have some pot. Really I think it is time this country to mature and drop these fru-fru allegations against marijuana. I and many others can attest to the fact that we have gotten more sick from alcohol than toking. Actually I have not ever gotten sick from smoking pot at all.

23 sk8m8 { 06.23.09 at 9:30 am }

America is an illusionary country for the free. Big business turns the government wheel to control and accept products for the masses. It is unfortunate that “reefer madness” is still infecting the small brains of those who can’t accept it as medicine and alternative FDA medicines are being challenged by a gift from god that occurs as natural as hops that America consumes in huge proportions. Until the Alcohol, Tobacco and pharmy folk share the stage with medical marijuana, depend on more damaging reports of laced pot causing DNA damage. If the CIA and FBI continue planting bad product to help prove stupid claims, we just in the process of evolving to the next generation where the new thinkers will deep six the old.

steve,
very sad about the trouble you’ve had to go through to live a peaceful life when all you really needed was a Rx of cannabis. it’s sucks that the mental health profession hasn’t done more for researching cannabis for treatments to many diagnoses. ive heard their hushed talk in circles and they seem to know that it has value for their mental patients. i am guessing, but i think the federal goverment wouldn’t let them get grant funded for said research and also the huge stigma that goes along with even mentioning the word cannabis in professional circles can hang with your reputation. israel is apparently leading the way in some medical research. the land of the free that helped make many medical breakthroughs possible is now apparently the land of the governed and medical ideas are created by the goverment not scientists. sounds like another country that told it’s scientists what they could study and create.

25 matthew spencer { 06.23.09 at 10:17 am }

Steve,

Also saddened by your story. My younger sister was in the same position. She stopped breathing as an infant and had ear, nose, and eye problems resulting, which led her to have trouble in school. Her mental health doctor put her on 7-10 different meds over a five year period, including prozac, paxil, depakote, anti-psychotics, etc… She also gained a lot of weight and had major mood-swings and depression from her medication. She hated the affects of their “helpful treatment.” She gradually disliked school and socializing more and more as she became more alienated. There are too many people who have suffered and continue to suffer under our immoral, broken healthcare system. Doctors and lawyers working to make their pocketbooks fatter, and acting like they care about there “clients”. They are feeding us lies and telling us to shut up and leave the decisions to them. Again, taking freedom out of individuals and giving them to those who stopped caring about OUR world a long time ago. They have sold their souls for a chance at the famous life of the rich, where people cower and answer to them as if they were gods. And many of us do the same. skeptic, cautiously optimistic….these are character traits that all should embrace, yet we hold to our natural belief that others do care for us. Unfortunately, yet fortunately–for those who are not infatuated with the fantasy power of money are not in charge, because we are not willing to be yes-men who act immorally for our own benefit.
Talk! voice your story, your opinion, out of the Love you harbor for the Beauty you experience in the Nature of God.

And some prohibitionist say that there is no medical properties to MJ lol yea right and I am Rebert E. Lee lol is kind of sad though that other countries either have MJ decriminalized if not legalized yet the US is be hind the 8 ball when it cones to legalization or decriminalization yet our nation is suppose to be land of the free… If that is so then why oh why don’t the issue of MJ not solved through legalization or decriminalized ? I was in Ireland and even there it is not such a big deal being there is more to worry about than MJ like the deaths and violence caused by alcohol and tobacco yet do we see tobacco and alcohol illegal? NO…… what the hell is wrong with our nation for the govt to keep mj illegal yet have alcohol and tobacco legalized which is not only bad for peoples health but also causes violence and even death while MJ NEVER killed any one and can be used for medical porpouses as well …. We need to keep fighting till the stupid war on MJ is banished and it is ligalized if not decriminalized. We have bigger problems to worry about than keeping marijuana Illegal and pursicuting people for using it.. Our time is coming that is a fact also we will prevail in the long run but only if we keep doing what we are doing and keep the fight on for our rights as Americans …. If they do not want to legalize or at least decriminalize MJ I say lets not vote the people who are for prohibition and let our voices be heard….

27 Jeremy R. { 06.23.09 at 10:47 am }

I say Fuck taking pills that have dangerous side effect if their is MJ that does the same thing with out the harmful side effects… Hell with alcohol if we have MJ at least we know that we wont die from MJ vurses taking a chance of dieing when we use alcohol….

28 R.O.E. { 06.23.09 at 11:15 am }

Emory,
I hear and underrstand what you post. There is a growing knowledge that our rights and freedoms are being stripped from us. Its people like us that are sounding the warnings now. The real revolution starts when the freedoms of those that dont believe are stripped from them. people are waking up to this…slowly.Hopefully not to slowly.

I have said for many years that we are paying politcians to laws us out of our freedoms. How many thousands of laws are on the “books”? We are told its for the greater good. Who’s greater good? These days the laws that are passed are hardly read , if at all, and passed. Time to stop Lawing our selves out of freedom.

29 R.O.E. { 06.23.09 at 11:24 am }

I think this country needs a house cleaning so to speak. This is what I mean. Stop making laws…for a time. Go through the laws we have. Get rid of the ones that the population dont want or the ones that really dont apply.

30 R.O.E. { 06.23.09 at 11:30 am }

One other thing. I see post where people seen happy to get cannabis from a government grow source if/when legalized. If you all dont mind,I would feel much better if down the road I can grow my own. I dont trust the government enough to not alter it from its natural state by adding to it. Do you?….Really?

31 Jeremy R. { 06.23.09 at 1:10 pm }

R.O.E. I hear you there if/when the govt ever does decide to do so they should allow for an indevidual the option to either grow their own up to 2 plants 4 at most for personal use if they do not want to get from the govt for all we know the govt is most likely to lace their stuff to try to use that info towards making it illegal . You do make a point that at least if you grew your own you will know if it is indeed laced or not . Personally if you grow your own and you want good mj it is called hydroponics and airoponics and even you know the use of either is not laced crap being the only thing you would use is 100% natural nutrients whil if the govt grew it they may in a short term mess up a wet dream . as I said personally the person should have the choice to buy or grow their own and if buying to keep it all on the up side doing so through a kind of coffee shop or other means the govt may decide to sell it. The one thing that should be done how ever is treat it like alcohol and tobacco where kids and not responsible adults can get it legally . Even if the govt sells seeds at 2-3 dollars a pop even they would be happy being they make money while the home grower is also happy… And IF there are people who want to smoke then drive and they get caught then treat them the same way as if it was drinking and driving… Their is no need to smoke then operate a machinery being a machinery is dangerous enough sober …..

32 Jeremy R. { 06.23.09 at 1:14 pm }

Does any one know usally how long it takes to go through the Committee part of the legalization process? Just courious…..

33 David { 06.23.09 at 4:25 pm }

“Marijuana is the flame, heroin is the fuse, LSD is the bomb. So don’t you try to equate liquor to marijuana, Mister, not with me. You may be able to sell that jazz to another pothead, but not to somebody who holds some sick kid’s head while he vomits and wretches on a curbstone at 4:00 in the morning. And when his legs get enough starch into them so he can stand up and empty his pockets, you can bet he’ll have a stick or two of marijuana. And you can double your money he’ll turn up a sugar cube or a cap or two. So don’t you con me with your mind expansion slop. I deal with kids every day. I try to clean up the mess that people like you make out of ‘em. I’m the expert here, you’re not.”

offspring, oh the gateway theory again, well that has been busted so long ago i won’t even bother to try and straighten you out on why cannabis is no more a gateway drug then is babies milk. individuals make their own choices and use substances irresposibly reguardless of what substance it is. holding a kids hair back at 4am while they puke on a curb doen’t even sound like cannabis anyways. you are ignorant and your diatribe speaks volumes about your character.

INSIGHT: A VIEW OF THE HORIZON’S EVENTS

Should I be stocking up on meds.?

Predictions from several well respected sources, like the CIA’s Professor Bruce Bueno do Mesquita, with his algarythm techniques to predict future events along with several other respected psychics, religous leaders, etc., are all pointed to warnings for the next year to four years.

If the world is facing catastrophic circumstances, we may never see the end of prohibition. The bad news is a lot of us will not survive this time period at a rate of 40% non-survivers world wide. The Myan Calendar predicts an exact world ending date (Dec. 21, 2012,) but most predictions refer to the early part of this century as being riddled with the worst of times man has ever known.

The bottom line for me is, if things get bad enough over the next few months, what we’re doing right now may not matter compared to living on the brink of survival.

TO STOCK UP OR NOT TO STOCK UP? I feel like an Owl in the night watching……………waiting…………..for a series of terrible events coming. If anything really bad happens, it’s been a pleasure visiting with you nice folks here at Marijuana Policy Project.

Take Care All,

israel has been studying cannabis for years ( funded by the US). the move seems to be towards the pharmaceuticalization of hemp, not the end of prohibition. the motives are the same: profit, power, control. the call to action is sounding now. educate yourself and others. get up, stand up. watch: run from the cure- the rick simpson story. visit: phoenixtears.ca participate in Dr. Robert Melemedes videoconference this saturday. spread the word with light and love and illuminate the real path to health and happiness. blessed be.

What gets me is that people that believe in the christian bible believe that God is perfect and everything he created on earth is perfect. Yet, these same people damn a plant that their God created. So therefore they are saying that their God is NOT perfect because of this wicked marijuana plant. Thank God for the Israels for helping to find the good in marijuana and not just the bad.

47 Robert Vetter { 06.27.09 at 3:17 pm }

Most Bible People are sworn to Obey the Leaders that God has ordained to lead them. So they mostly tow the Party line. They say “God created Poison Ivy but you would not smoke that would you? I try to ask them if Satan created Marijuana, but they would not give the Devil the credit. They fail to realize that it is the Believers right to disobey unjust laws as well. They lack compassion and commitment to our social issue!!! They say it’s all going to burn anyway so why cry about it? I consider it my duty to cry out about it, so I will not be guilty of cowardice or non resistance of EVIL!!!!

48 Ryan { 06.28.09 at 11:51 pm }

Would our president and more than 5 other presidents, senators,congressman be where they are today had they not “experimented” with marijuana in the first place?

If Marijuana its such a hindrance and can ruin your life then why are these people in such high stature positions?

now whether these officials enjoyed it or not isn’t the question at hand here.

Would they be where they are today had they not tried/had this experience with marijuana?

Why abolish something that obviously has proven time after time to produce great leaders?

The people being arrested for marijuana are being sent to jail. This means our tax money is going to support them

these people are now unable to dump money into our economy.

So i would say yes that legalizing it would help us out of this.

49 Jay { 06.30.09 at 2:54 pm }

That’s awesome! I wasn’t even aware that Israel was allowing people to have medical marijuana. I’m glad that Israel has seen how useful and helpful medical marijuana can be- now all we need is the whole US to legalize it!
