Hundreds Turn Out to Defeat Proposal to Weaken Colorado’s Medical Marijuana Law

After a 12-hour hearing in which hundreds of medical marijuana advocates testified, the Colorado Board of Health Monday rejected a proposal limiting the number of medical marijuana patients a caregiver can serve to five.

The proposal, which attorneys testified violated the 2000 constitutional amendment passed by voter initiative protecting valid medical marijuana patients from arrest, was designed to hinder legally operating medical marijuana dispensing centers.

Opponents of medical marijuana tried a similar tactic before, and it was ruled unconstitutional by a Colorado court in 2007. Is it too much to hope they might have learned their lesson this time?

Seems like prohibitionists want more by being greedy and greed is what is damaging them . They know If we keep doing what we are doing then prohibitionists are going to lose the fight to keep mj illegal and in prohibition and figure that if they hit medical MJ dispensaries that it would hurt the cause. But you know what in Colorado it blew up in their face but that is only their and I bet they will continue to try in other areas. So if the prohibitionists want to continue a war against mj I say they started the war as history documented not the people who use/used mj so being they wanted this war against fellow Americans we must keep on fighting even after victory through legalizing and taxing mj being they will not quit and may try as history did re-prohibition / making mj not legal . Once the cause is done we must keep up to make sure history does not repeat its self and is a good reason why we shall still need NORML and others who are fighting for the cause. What I say is the day it does become legal and taxed lets use some of that money to help NORML and those other org.’s continue to protect the cause. it is a small price to pay and yet in the long run will be well worth it. Till that time we must keep up the fight for legalization and taxation of mj / end the prohibition of mj once and for all. Keep up the good work fellow patriots for our cause is right and just.

LOL see , the people are wise to prohibitionist meddling. They are losing and losing fast. They desperation is very evident.

On another front,I seen a news story today on Yahoo news that mexican cartels kill a south american drug boss. they are expanding their reach. SOme of this is happening because our government is interfering in southamerican drug trafficing, so what will be our governments response? Ya you guessed it,they will most likely throw more of the money we dont have, nor want them to use, at it via the war on drug(AKA war on people around the world).

Pull your heads out of your collective asses you stupid prohibs! Legalize cannabis, the war on drugs (people) is a failure!

Little by little. Step by step.

I agree that Norml et al may continue to be neccessary. However, once MJ is legalized, and its many medical benefits are widely know, the war WILL be all but over. Eases pain and suffering. Cures certain types of cancers, and inhibits others. What kind of an a-hole would try to destroy that?

Once many of MJ’s benefits are common knowledge (and once it’s decrimmed/legal, word will spread), prohibition will no longer be discussed. It would be political suicidea And for those not in politics, it would just prove them ignorant (stupid). Who’d want to admit that?

Excellent excellent!!!

@ Donny Danko – must have been priceless to hear the hiss and boos against the Prohibitionists and cheers for the US citizens!

I wonder if anyone filmed it? I’d love to see it on Youtube followed by an update with the decision that sided *for* the people. :D

Thank you Colorado for doing the Right Thing.
Now, why don’t you beat California to the punch and Legalize MJ ? It won’t hurt, promise.

Thank you for your participation fellow American Patriot. If I had the opportunity here in San Diego, I’d be there in a heartbeat, even though I am not a MMJ patient or even consume cannabis at all at this point in my life. This is still a very important issue for me.

The prohibionist still have their wild card against cannabis, The Control Substance Act of 1970 and The Marijuana Stamp Act of 1936. What if Mark Kirk becomes president? That snake is now trying to slither up to the senate vacant seat.

Theres no programs here in Iowa either Rick. We need to make it public knowledge to Iowas that HEMP would be a much better alternative to corn based ethanol. It would reduce food costs also if we harvested HEMP just like our nieghbors to the north ,Canadians. Go to the Iowa Norml web site. It shows GIANT heaps of Hemp we once harvested here.

#4, It will be a great day when we finally have freedom in this country and groups like MPP and NORML can become full-time watchdog groups, making sure The Prohibitionists don’t ever try to make a law against cannabis ever again.

#12 R.O.E.,

HIA Member, Hemp Industrial Association, thanks for the info. We’d love to see hemp farms in Tennessee but MJ reform isn’t changeing over night for Iowan’s or Tennesseans. Maybe next year’s legislative powers can pull it off in 2010.

GOOD DAY SIR!,

Ya know their proposal would really only have resulted in a increase in the number of grow operations everywhere. By allowing caregivers to maintain their current numbers of patients there will be a lower total number of grow operations for policemen to have to monitor. I don’t think these prohibitionists really think through there proposals.

16 krissy { 07.21.09 at 7:31 pm }

The law cannot take the right away from doctors to provide care to patients… how could they try such a thing? Next are they going to limit the number of patients who get care for STDs, Hepatitis or AIDs sufferers? I wouldn’t be surprised if they try enforcing limits on abortions too…

Great news Colorado!!! It’s sad how they always try to throw kids in front of the situation to gain sympathy.

Perhaps they should realize it’s really our children they are targeting in this farse Drug War that is really a War on American Families!!!

This is the longest and most devastating war in American History, and it’s our own Govt. that’s locking up our children and ruining their futures. This evil must end now and laws must be drafted to ensure this will not ever happen again.

Its’ great to hear Cannabis users uniting and fighting for our God given rights!!!

Power to the PEOPLE!!!!

You can turn your small vioce into a big voice by voting.
You can turn your small voice into a huge voice with your physical presence, as did our fellow Coloradoans. When you can fill Mile High Stadium for a Bronco Pep Rally…
that’s physical presence. When you can violate fire capacity ordenance…that’s presence. When you can overwhelm your adversaries with bodies…that’s presence.
When you accomplish both…that’s victory.
