Could Medical Marijuana Have Saved Michael Jackson?

Okay, let me say right up front that a) I know that headline is provocative, and b) neither I nor anyone can answer the question with any certainty given what we know and don’t know so far about Michael Jackson’s death. But the question needs to be asked.
It needs to be asked because suspicions that prescription painkillers may have been involved in Jackson’s death are strong enough that the federal Drug Enforcement Administration has been brought into the investigation. And we know that he had a documented history of battling pain and at least some acknowledged problems with prescription painkillers.
We don’t know yet what pain drugs Jackson was on or what they were prescribed for. But if he was addicted to prescription painkillers, that addiction almost certainly started with legitimate and needed treatment for real pain. And that’s where medical marijuana might have helped.
We know — repeat, we know — that marijuana can be effective against certain types of pain. As The Lancet Neurology put it a few years ago, “cannabinoids inhibit pain in virtually every experimental pain paradigm.” We know that human clinical trials such as this one have found marijuana to be effective, particularly for neuropathic pain.
And there is considerable evidence that marijuana and cannabinoids can act synergistically with opioid painkillers, providing better pain relief at lower doses than either class of drugs by itself. For example animal studies such as this one have reported that such combination therapy avoids the development of tolerance and allows effective relief with lowered opioid doses — avoiding the pattern of escalating doses that can lead to addiction and overdose risk.
And there is evidence that this same effect occurs in people. For example, in a series of cases reported in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (which, alas, you can only access by paying for it — sorry!), patients on morphine and other narcotics were able to cut their doses roughly in half when smoked marijuana was added to their regimen.
At MPP, we hear similar stories from patients all the time: Again and again, patients tell us that use of medical marijuana allows them to cut back or eliminate the heavy doses of narcotic painkillers they’d been taking, while obtaining equal or better relief. There is enough science corroborating these accounts that they deserve to be taken seriously.
We can’t yet say that medical marijuana could have saved Michael Jackson, and we may never know that for sure. But there is simply no reasonable doubt that marijuana can help some chronic pain patients reduce both their suffering and their consumption of addictive and potentially deadly narcotics. If the U.S. government acknowledged that reality instead of denying it, lives could be saved — maybe lots of them.

100% percent without ANY hesitation,it could have saved him.with no toxicity and very controllable dosage systems. And just the fact it works,do you think he’d be 115 pounds if he smoked? It just also would have been the most dependable stress reliever known to man,ah yea i think it would have saved his life .And this could have used a stress re leaser,it really gets right down to the fact that if he had used pot he probably would still be alive.I dont doubt it for a minute.
I thought the same thing when I heard Pain killer abuse, Yes the King would still be alive!
Gee If only we had some regulation on these drugs that M.J. was taking …humm.. Oh wait… we do… and people are still dying from them! Hell prohibition doesnt work! nor does regulation apparently. For crap sake, why have prohibition. Regulation is doing a fine job of keeping people from o.d. ing and miss using drugs. Just as good of a job as prohibition only without arrest.lol having regulation on cannabis is like having regulation on breathing. My gawd what is going on here?! Our leaders are looking for more ever creative ways of micro managing our lives and to profit from that manage ment like never before(I’m not a thing to be managed or profited from in the name of government). We are losing our rights like never before. And The king of pop is a more important topic of discusion? Yes the king of pop is dead! yes cannabis is good for medical use! And yes our government is becoming communist in sheeps clothing(red ,white , and ,blue clothing none the less). Anymore questions?! (I just puked a little from my discust.)
Yah, i thought about the same thing… marijuana could of saved his life… but no they rather have ppl die then be saved.
Millions could be saved in generations to come!
I don’t care about MJ, but I’m a sufferer of peripheral neuropathy and I smoke marijuana to treat the pain. It’s the only thing my doctor will let me do he won’t give me the narcotics because he says they are too addictive and dangerous.
Michael Jackson took opiates/pain meds because that was his drug of choice. Some addicts take more than one drug or add alcohol, but if they are able to get “their drug” that’s what they will take. MJ may have taken the drugs strictly for pain to start with, but at some point he started taking them (&taking lots!) cause he liked the way they made him feel. If he would have liked the way pot made him feel he would have been doing that instead. Trust me, he had options. So, no, I do not think legal pot would have saved his life. Read more about addiction perhaps you’ll understand.
Don’t get me wrong; I definately think it should be legal!!! Just do not think it would have saved Michael Jackson.
There’s another thing we know for sure, he wouldn’t of died had he used medical marijuana other than prescription medication, if in fact that was one of the contributing factors to this death. Also, if people used marijuana instead of tobacco, can you imagine how many other lives could of been saved? How can they possibly justify having a legal substance that killed 100 million last century and is predicted to kill 1 billion this century, but yet leaving marijuana illegal, which has never killed anybody from simply consuming it and in fact actually saves lives. I am appalled at the ignorance of our government, it truly is a travesty.
Tobacco smoking is state-sanctioned and taxed suicide. Why don’t they want cannabis freely available? Maybe because it could lead to lengevity, and judging by their actions, that isn’t one of the goals. Population control seems to be more on the agenda. It’d be easier to control the masses if they were a little smaller.
I’ve been thinking the same thing for a few days now. The guy lives in the state that has made the most medical marijuana progress and he resorts to prescription pain killers? Even if he didn’t want his name assiocated with MMJ, with his connections, I’m sure he could have had any number of his employees get it for him.
I heard some troll on CNN today state that pain killers is the #2 drug in the country right now, and people are DYING from it. I wonder how many pain killer users were arrested last year…anywhere close to 900,000? 500,000? Anyone know?
Someone needs to do a prime-time special report into this. Specifically doing the analysis to determine if MMJ could have saved his life.
It’s a fascinating thought, but when you have him begging for drugs like Diprivan to help him sleep, I am doubtful he would have even gave marijuana a second thought. He wanted some serious powerful drugs. Would it have been a safer option for the symptoms he was experiencing? Without a doubt. Would it have saved his life? Well to my knowledge they haven’t released what specifically the cause of death was. If it wasn’t drug related then that notion doesn’t have a leg to stand on. If, on the other hand, it appears the drugs directly or indirectly played a role in his death; then you may have just have something. In that case he may very well have been the highest profile victim of the drug war.
I am skeptical as to whether he would have even tried marijuana due to a childhood memery of mine. I recall Michael getting an award from then-president Reagan for “setting a good, clean, drug-free example for the youth of America”. That just doesn’t sound like the kind of guy that could ever take the notion of marijuana as medicine seriously. He had doctors prescribing ever more powerful drugs to him as the years went on. I speculate he still held onto that 1980’s mentality that if it came from a doctor it isn’t a drug. It’s a medication and it’s perfectly safe. Even in a legal, regulated market; I feel he would have trusted the Diprivan over marijuana, and the story would have ended the same. But hey, what do I know?
I have no idea weather he did or didn’t use Cannabis but it was obvious that he was addicted to painkillers. I was becoming addicted to Lortabs that i got from a pain center because I suffer from sever pain after being electrocuted while installing lighting fixtures in display bays at a Lowes store in Fresno, California. The electricity caused nerve damage through-out my body. The Doctors say I have neuropathy. I take Lyrica and Ultram for the nerve pain and many other medications to deal with all the complications caused by each other. The doctors just prescribe more medications to treat new symptoms. I take 26 precribed pills each day. I get some relief from the Lyrica and Ultram. I tried Medical Marijuana while still in California and it made a huge improvement in the pain and reduced the pain medicine that I was taking. I live in Kentucky and when I returned home from the job out west I went to the doctor here and was diagnosed with the Neuropathy. I said I had tried Medical Marijuana in California nad he said he didn’t approve of the use of illegal drugs and he had no intention of treating drug users and asked me to leave. I found another doctor but kept quiet about trying Medical Marijuana. I live in a state where you can go to prison for having rolling papers or a pipe as this is all they need to convict you of possession of paraphernalia. If I found Marijuana on the street and used it I would fail the regular urine and blood tests I have to take in order to keep recieving care by my doctor because I need pain medicine. The doctor at the pain center kept saying I was morbidly obese and unless I lost sixty pounds he would not continue to prescribe Lortab for my pain. I told him I could barely walk because of the pain in my feet and he said he didn’t care how I lost the weight as long as I was sixty pounds lighter in three months. My wife said I wasn’t that much over weight as I a’m six feet three inches tall and I a’m large framed. I weigh 220 pounds. I told the nurse that I wanted another doctor and she said he was the only doctor I could see so I got dressed and told my wife we were leaving and left the clinic. When I got home there was a message on my phone saying that I refused to take my drug tests and they were notifiying my primary doctor, all pharmacy’s and the police that I had failed my drug tests. I have a lawyer and he said there wasn’t much I could do about it. I wish I lived in a state where it was legal to be prescribed Medical Marijuana. This type of treatment is not right. I have not used any illegal drugs and I had passed all previous drug tests they gave me and had to pay for them myself also. I could not afford the cost of the doctors and the medications, much less the drug test every time I turned around. It’s time to stop prohibition and treat Marijuana just like alcohol. It should be affordable and taxed just like alcohol. If the price was about the same as alcohol it would stop the drug cartel from making anything off of it because there wouldn’t be any large profit to make from it. It would take it out of the hands of gangs too.
yes……….and think how the music would’ve evolved……
bud that is a crazy sad story! get the heck out of that state. come back to ca. i live in ca and it is alot of things, but truth be told it’s still a place that accepts people and has tolerance. KY sounds pretty gestapo to me. Sorry to get off topic but i hope mpp and other lobbying organizations are hitting ca goverment hard right now. Ca just started issuing iou to people , and they are pissed. all the while they continue to wasted billions of dollars on prohibition enforcement of cannabis. hello people aren’t able to buy food with an iou but were wasting money on stopping cannbis. the fire is hot and we should strike with our facts!
I do not know if Marijuana would have saved MJ , but one strain called Black Domina which is a very powerful indica could have helped him sleep , I can attest to that. Michael Jackson and Elvis both anti Marijuana advocates… only the toxicology screen knows.. But it is a shame , a God Damed Dirty Shame !!!
I have nerve pain 24/7, from too many and bad hernia sugeries. Inguinal Neralgia. Feels like when you hit your funny bone all the time. I have a script for Oxycodone. I choose MMJ over Oxy almost everyday. The real bad days I will take them. If I took my prescription as directed(5mg, take 2, 4x day, up to8 daily) I would be hooked. I too get piss tested at the Dr’s but I happen to be taking Protonix for my stomach and one of the main side effects is “false positive urine test for THC”. Have to admit that cracks me up and is very cool.(Bud, see a Dr. about the acid build up in your stomach, he he) I live in a legal MMJ state but chronic pain is not accepted as a MMJ condition. In Febuary of 08 I got busted for cultivation, 12 plants from clone to buds. 1 oz dried bud.(2 days jail,*reduced by jail to 1 day, 40 hours Com service, $610.00 fine) My Dr. at the pain clinic was informed about my arrest by the DEA. This is after an arrest, not conviction. No innocent till proven guilty. Just blacklisted. I did tell my Dr. that that was bullshit and maybe if he thought that the DEA should be my Dr. I need a new one. I stood firm for my rights but really could not even have an honest conversation about MMJ with my Dr. Just talking about it could get both of us in trouble. I never asked him for anything. So, a few months go by and he’s doing everything he can for me, nerve block shots, Lirica, topical xylocaine cream, lidocaine patches. The Dr sees that I am suffering and finnaly say’s “we need to treat your pain more agressively”. I’m like, yea whatever. I say, “after you hearing about me getting arrested, I was not going to ask you for nothin”. “I come here so you can treat me somehow because I’m afraid of losing my SSI if I don’t even though we both know there is not much you can do”. Nerve pain can’t be fixed and never goes away. He looked at me and said, “well, attitudes are changing across the country and around here too”. Then he wrote me a pain script that says ” use as needed” not as directed, “as needed”. He gave the choice to me. I decide wether to take a very dangerous pill or MMJ. Then he sent me for a urine test so I was still was not sure how this all would shake out. I knew I would test positive(Protonixs aside) but still could not be honest with my Dr. because what he knows he has to report. The 4 week script he gave me lasted over 9 weeks. To me thats proof that with MMJ you will take less narcotics. Monday I called for a refill thinking they would tell me to come get it and test me too, probably refuse me. Well, yesterday I got the presciption in the mail. It appears what we have now is an understanding to “don’t ask, don’t tell. The point is, both the Dr. and the patient can not even have a MMJ discussion without fear. I would absolutely love to be honest with my Dr. Sometimes I think I could even teach him a few things to help his patients.
I don’t know about Michael Jackson but I can truly say I’m not sure I would still be here without Marijuana. The stuff the Dr’s. give you, will kill you, it’s just a matter of time.
You can take my pot when you rip it from my cold dead hands.
If Michael Jackson had smoked cannabis for pain relief, he would be alive today, plain and simple. He’s not the only one. Heath Ledger would still be alive also, as would many other celebrities who died to prescription drug-related overdoses. Despite what the government and DEA tells us about cannabis, it may be the only drug that cannot cause a death by overdose. Furthermore, it’s been proven that cannabis relieves pain.
The fact that it remains illegal is almost unfathomable. In a way, the government killed Michael Jackson.
By the way, we should all write to CNBC, CNN, etc. telling them to report on this.. would make for an interesting story.
Think about it:
“Would medical marijuana have saved Michael Jackson’s life??”
while i am an advocate for legalizing marijuana…i don’t think it would of saved michael jackson or heath ledger….what makes you think these guys didn’t toke up anyway? besides, anyone who is a true addict isn’t going to be happy with just pot. they need something to send them over the edge. that’s a flaw in their personality…its called addiction. and since pot isn’t physically addictive, its just not enough for them as they seek a higher high.
but the whole issue should be….why the fak does the FDA allow these drugs when they kill people…and why can’t we use marijuana since it doesn’t kill anyone!!!! i can’t believe how utterly pathetic our government and laws are!
As a former Jehovah witness I seriously doubt MJ would have even thought about trying cannabis. I mean the guy wouldn’t even curse, he would spell the 4 letter word. I think he was one of the brainwashed when it comes to cannabis.

Sorry to sound cold, but I don’t give a damn about Michael Jackson. As people continue to scream from the rooftops, “He was sooo talented!” others could easily counter with, “Yeah, but he wasn’t very smart”.
Unlike the vast majority of people, Michael Jackson had the means to pursue any number of therapy options. He chose traditional medicine and all the harm that goes with it. I’m much more concerned with those who wisely choose cannabis as a treatment option but can’t access it because of our outdated and inhumane laws.
Again, sorry if this comes across as cold. But celebrity obsession just drive me nuts.
What I was hearing was that he(Jackson) was having trouble sleeping,,if im not mistaken some strains of cannabis can help with that also!!
#19 I agree with you on the CBS and CNN thing. Now as for # 20 your train of thinking is some what flawed being I know for a fact that not every one started with marijuana matter of fact and in the field research has proven that majority of marijuana smokers started off with perscription and over the counter meds and other more dangerous substances and when in the field doing research people who were asked ” If marijuana was legalized and taxed and you happen to be a harder drug user would you quit using harder drugs?” 98% out of 100% replied with this answer ” No question about it . If they would legalize and tax marijuana that if I use/used a more dangerous drug would simply quit the harder drug and only use marijuana due to the facts that the harder drugs has more dangerous side effects and a person could even die from more harder drugs as well as man made pills of all kinds versus having to worry about harmful side effects from marijuana being marijuana is 10X more safer than even alcohol, tobacco and any pill that is known to man that I know of. I would openly in a hart beat quit using the harder drugs if marijuana was legalized and taxed.”
Unlike how the prohibitionists who lie and provide false data to scare people I only deal with Facts that are true and simply present them to every one to help educate them. Now after I do that it is up to the individual to make their own decision how ever believe me or not I do not care being I know what is and is not true and simply provided the trueth and if no one likes the trueth or does not want to believe the trueth but wants to believe the prohibitionists and others lies so be it that is who ever listens to their BS has their rights. How ever they should also respect the rights of those who do know the trueth and want to have that decision as long as it does not harm any one and frankly marijuana use by an individual who decides to use it is harming no one unless they are stupid and doing marijuana while driving which in that case I and just about every other person on both sides of the fence believe that that persons rights should be treated just as that of a person who drinks and drives that indangers not only others lives but that of you and me. Kind of the same laws as alcohol should be the same if marijuana is legalized. This will prevent any problems and will save multi billions anually that is being spent on keeping marijuana illegal,in prisoning people for simple use and possession, Cort costs as well as wasting time from our police who can use their time to put away more violent offenders and dangerous substances such as cocain , Meth , Extacy etc…. , Not only that but can produce jobs in the bio fuel , production of fibers from the plant for clothing and other valuable resources . It can also help prevent terrorism , Pay off our nations debt, provide money towards our education as well as to help end violence and destruction like that in our national forests as well as take away the multi billions that is 60+% of the cartels annual profit . Their are a lot of reasons to legalize marijuana than keeping marijuana illegal. But hey do not take my word for it do the research and see for your self while keeping an open head and using logic . you will see that it not only can help our nation, Help the sick, and save multi billions to name just a few…. The keeping of marijuana illegal is doing way more harm to America than simply legalizing and taxing it which is not just logical but is also smart…. Marijuana Prohibition has never worked nor will it ever work it is a stupid war against the people of America and also violates American Peoples rights….. Think about it ….How would you feel if your rights were taken away?….. What would you do?……. This is all straight out facts no lies what so ever….. Now what you decide is up to you…. And when you decide on this is your call how ever “We the people” Shall keep fighting for what we know is right and that is not only for our rights as Americans but also for our freedom through ending this stupid fight of marijuana prohibition which should never have been.
There is no Pharmaceutical Drug that is safer that Cannabis.
Cannabis can be easily and safely substituted for many of these deadly pharmaceutical drugs.
So many lives have been lost to these FDA approved drugs.
We all live in a Pharmacratic Nation/World that seeks to punish those for their personal Freedom of choosing medical treatment. They seek to limit our Freedoms by limiting our choices.
They use words such as “Drugs” or “Terrorism”, sometimes in the same sentence, to subvert the Constitution and strip the American People and their Families from their Freedoms that so many had sacrificed to achieve.
Has this country also re-defined FREEDOM???
Now I know our leaders have lost thier minds. I just heard they are talking bout forcing americans to buy health insurance or they have to pay 1000$ or more in fines! How the hell is a person gonna pay the freakin fines if they cant pay for health insurance in the first place. Whats next? Jail if you dont pay the fine. We are in serious danger here people. This little hell they are creating is for us not them. Damned if we do damned if we dont.
Jeremy R. Our Enemies know this all too well…So in California the Legal People just amended the Three Strikes Law to include crimes committed while a person is a Juvenile. Which means that there is not going to be any forgiveness for anyone soon. Just another way to keep our Jails full. Can you not see that our enemies are not the common American Joe six pack or the Hippie Dippie Trippy People.
They are your elected officials….. who have sold us down the river to the Corporate Conglomerate Machine . I do not know how we can reverse this evil in America. Are we really that Evil a group of People that we need to be Punished for being Smart and Merciful? Let the Good People continue to be good and fight for what is good and Let the Evil People continue to be Evil , All I want is to be able to see from a close circuit channel in Heaven is our Politicians being Judged by The Lord Jesus Christ. Someone who understands betrayal, Brutality, and no Justice !!! Let me see them try to bullshit HIM !!!!
how come the us congress and president can pass a bill in a few months that takes our rights away but it takes years to pass a bill that would make legal a god given right? in ca the grow shops, like humbolt horticulture are doing great imagine if cannabis were legal for all, what kind of enterprise that would spawn. im so sick of this prohibition mentality that uses myths and lies to hold up law. we need to organize and get people together and demand that this be changed. i wonder if they’ll ever let it be legal? their prison and law enforcement machine is huge and growing all the time. maybe we should gather up every one that is afraid to say something and all the people that have given their lives for this cause and take back our legalization from their hands, while holding our signs of facts and pictures of all the people negatively effected by cannabis prohibition. imagine if we could do this one thing what else we could do in this country.
Bruce, this is a perfect chance to go from the deffensive side to an offensive side. Please take this chance. You can talk about the inconsistancys of the FDA and their harmful over thr counter medications and how medical marijuana would have prevented Micheal Jacksons death… or somthing like that.
Well now it is possibly looking like Michael was taking diprivan to induce a comatose state so he could sleep. Tests still need to be revealed to the public to be certain. Hell a heavy intense Indica strain would have helped ol MJ. Hey MJ FOR MJ! What do you think Bruce? MJ for MJ? It’s Golden. USE IT. Peace Ya’ll. Get some sleep.

Sorry to be off topic, but something occurred to me during my 4th of July BBQ. California recently labeled cannabis smoke as being carcinogenic. During my BBQ I inhaled the smoke from burning fireworks, corn husks, chicken and bratwurst. Since the state of California is now in the business of not only telling it’s citizens what substances cause cancer, but what substances cause cancer when the are burned, my first question is why they haven’t labeled fireworks which consist of burning metals? Is there really insufficient data about the cancer causing properties of burning magnesium? And from there, whey isn’t the smoke produced from burning all foods tested for carcinogens like Cannabis was? If you can grill it, people are likely to breathe the smoke. If I cook my frozen pizza too long, isn’t it up to the state of California to tell me if the smoke that fills the house as a result contains carcinogens?
LOL ya Luke, isnt it strange how they only tell you what is bad for you if it can bring in tax dollars to keep it illegal? This country is drowning in greed. Greed is not good,it will ruin us if left unchecked. Hey greed is bad for you, lets regulate it or out law it. Throw those who are greedy in jail lol FFS!
Im hoping I win the super mega millions lotto for tuesday so I can donate 10mill out of 133m to the MPP. Maybe that would give them the ability to make a hourlong debate or informational special nation wide.
when is something going to happen, i am so tired of waitting ,why are so many things legal that kill people and pot dosen’t but is still illegal , this racks my brain all the time why cant we get that debate and what makes me mad more than anything ,everyone i know who smokes pot won’t do anything about it , if only we had their support to.
I am a chronic pain patient that has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia x myofascil pain syndrome. My Pain specialist scripts me 480mg of Oxycontin.I take 3×80mg tabs at 5am and then again at 5pm.I have lost a grand total of 170lbs due to vomiting and lack of appitite.I am also prescribed Marinol at 10mg x3.It is impossible to swallow a pill whilest puking. So I took matters into my own hands and saved my life with pot.I cannot consume any and I mean any food w/o smoking beforehand and sometimes even afterwards.I live in Ny where the Senate is playing games and not getting the peoples business finished. My life depends on marijuana,no shit.I write my state and federal reps daily. If we could all come together and get on the same page,we can win this ridiculous breach of our written ights as American citizens and human beings.Time has come for a change.Lets do it folks..BigD Peace and One Love-Pot= The Tree of Life!
I think it would have. I have went to the extent of having a (Spinal Nerve Stimulator)which has reduced my need of pain pills. However I smoke 1 little pipe full and it is good for as long as the pill was….Plus I move a little better and get more done….I also think as though the pain is gone….
slightly off topic, but where is the outrage over the Today Show’s Kathy Lee and Hoda drinking alcohol ON THE AIR EVERY FRIDAY!!!!!
All i want to know is how much longer can we put up with this Bullshit of others in this country telling us what we know and dont know about the benefits of pot.it seems all we get is the runaround. It should be legal today just based on how other drugs including alcohol are nothing but killers.
I agree and is a very good reason as I said prior that we need to keep on fighting till this stupid prohibition war is done with other wise we will just sort of say be swept in under the rug and we shall see no more movement we need to keep fighting till we get marijuana legalized and taxed if not at least decriminalized after all marijuana is not a scedual 1 drug but is marked as such it should have never been illegal in the first place….. So in short if the govt want to try to just sweep us under the rug sort of say then we must keep the fight up and do all that we can do….. Keep on your reps….. Keep on bloging….. Keep on with the coverage and keep the fight for marijuana legalization un till we have ended this stupid prohibition……
Legal MJ probably would have saved that football player’s life too. He was out at two different bars until the early morning and then he was found dead. Alcohol makes people make bad decisions, MJ does not.
HW #23: didn’t offend me in the least and I could care less about Michael Jackson too but it did make for interesting discussion here.
that is one of the first things I thought about when I read he was having problems sleeping, sure would have been better than what he was using.
For over at least the past 50 years, this Nation has led the World into a Pharmacratic Inquisition by outlawing the natural and legalizing the unnatural with the use of propaganda.
INQUISITION seems to be a very powerful and evil word, but when you look back in history at all the previous Inquisitions, the similarities are obvious and diabolical. Unproven and/or Theological ideologies and/or allegations used to Oppress, Discriminate, Torture, Kill and/or Terminate a part of Society .
It is estimated that the US Judicial system has sentenced those for exercising their freedoms to an astounding estimate of 14 million years.
It is of great importance that we all take the time to educate those in regards to the medical facts and science behind cannabis, and others medicines, so that this Inquisition will not happen to our future generations.
From Testimony to Congress April 2004…. Department of Heath and Human Services:
“Marijuana is not a benign drug. It is illegal and has significant adverse health and social consequences associated with its use. Given the fairly recent discovery of the endogenous cannabinoid system and the tremendous science advances that followed, the development of useful cannabinoid-based medicines is an important area of investigation that should prove fruitful for a variety of health conditions. However, the use of smoked marijuana as a medicine is problematic due to its adverse health consequences and the inherent difficulties with respect to accurate dosing and the purity of the formulation. Approval for the use of marijuana, or perhaps more importantly purified compounds based upon the chemicals found in marijuana, as therapeutic agents must show substantial evidence of effectiveness and show the product is safe under the conditions of use in the proposed labeling. Safe, in this context, means that the benefits of the drug appear to outweigh its risks. ”
Furthermore the Department of HHS says this about smoked marijuana:
“The reports [the 1999 IOM report - "Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base"] noted that there is greater promise in purifying the active constituents of marijuana and developing alternate delivery systems, such as inhalers, rather than studying smoked marijuana.”
So my question is why aren’t they studying VAPORIZED Marijuana?????
“purifying the active constituents of marijuana ” —- isn’t this exactly what a vaporizer does???
I just found out tonight from a commercial about using Reglan that it is very dangerous and has bad side effects. I wonder if I might die from a legal drug? I could have used medical marijuana for what the doctor subscribed Reglan for.
Gotta go under the radar Bud. Be safe.
Can anyone help? I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2005. Have tried various medications and none were effective. Currently gone alternative. I was prescibed Lyrica. Is Lyrica and marijuana safe together?
Thanks
I wish he had gotten some kind of help. He was such a talented soul and had he gotten help instead of fed drugs, he might still be with us today.
Michael Jackson lived in CA…he could have used Medical marijuana and gotten a presciption if he wanted to…guess it wasn’t that effective for him.
m.j. isnt dead, for his service as a global mass distraction he was allowed to fake his death…m.j. will sell more stuff in one year than he has in the past 20yrs…this monetary wind-fall is his cake for being a mass distraction
Just be glad he wasn’t smoking and taking scripts. Then they would use all the publicity to say it killed hime or some other bs like that.
Good story. I think this needs to be better known! Check out this great news video on the topic: http://socalglamourgirls.com/news/2009/07/medical-marijuana-may-have-prevented-michael-jackson-death-fda-research-shows/
Someone I know cannot sleep, and he takes meds, but he also said marijuana worked for him to sleep, but it is illegal. So, Elvis, and MJ would not do illegal drugs but phamaceuticals, poison– by the truckload are just fine. BTW, marijuana is a plant– a natural substance!–not a chemical drug!!!!
