Angelenos overwhelmingly support medical marijuana regulation – not eradication

Responding to recent calls to shutter Los Angeles county’s medical marijuana collectives, MPP commissioned a poll that found Angelenos overwhelmingly supportive of medical marijuana access in their community.

According to the survey, 74 percent of Los Angeles County voters support the state’s medical marijuana law. 77 percent said that they prefer regulating L.A.-area medical marijuana facilities over closing them all down. Support for regulation crossed all demographic groups, including Republicans who favor regulation over wholesale closure by a 62 to 30 percent margin.

The poll also found that 54 percent of voters think marijuana should be made legal for adults over 21 and and its sales taxed and regulated like alcohol.

Hopefully these results will further demonstrate to the Los Angeles City Council and other elected officials that attacking the medical marijuana community is a no-win game in L.A. politics.

The poll — conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research — surveyed 625 regular voters in L.A. County. The questions and results by demographic breakdown can be downloaded here.

regulation is so much better than criminalization….. the pure fact that we are still debating the issue of marijuana prohibition in 2009, even with all the scientific and statistical evidence that we have, makes the statement ‘common sense isnt common’ all the more true

I think its funny watching the flat earthers try to stop this ball from rolling. So once this is legal for all, who will the prohibs persecute? Oh ya they wont stop persecuting us free thinkers, its all they know.

Who are these 23% of people who want to shut them down?? They obviously don’t know anyone for whom medical marijuana has been a god-send. I personally would be devastated if the dispensaries were shut down. I was not a pot smoker at all before I got sick (which explains my total ineptness in all things pot-related!) and I spent quite a while looking for “legitimate” ways to stop my constant, heinous nausea. So far medical marijuana has been the only thing that gives me any relief.

Hello Me and Mary Jane, How much do you need per week to treat yourself, and how much does it cost you per week? If you don’t mind my asking.

its pretty expensive. It costs me 45/week just for bout 3.2 grams worth after you take out all stems. And if its a hermit, well than the seeds too homie.

but 1/2-1 oz per 30 days is perfect. no more than 1 1/2 ozs, that goes for anybody. 450-500 mon is the max you should spend on any drug. I spend about 200 ahora.

When cannabis is legal there will be no one making profits. It costs less than 50 dollers to grow over an ounce. That is money being saved. Over grow big bro.

Once again, White Male Republicans seem to be the least capable of understanding/accepting science, and keeping their hands off of other people’s bodies.

I know they’re my fellow Americans, but I can’t help but feel furious at their willingness to attempt to control my life.
